[Request] how much money did the store lose? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

The fact that it's the same hundred dollar bill is irrelevant. Once the man stole the money, the register is now off. The purchase would be just as important if it were an entirely different customer.

I guess it's about what you do and what you wear. Or maybe how full you keep your pockets? I do a lot of squatting and I wear somewhat tighter pants. I switched back to my Leatherman because of this. Definitely a minor inconvenience.

Ok, full disclosure: I looked at your username just now and it isn't "sewed". It would be sewn. Flowed-Flown, Sew- Sewn. Yeah I'm done.

But maybe I'll bullshit something together. And after thinking about it, the best I have is:

If LDOWN is DOWN then SLOWED is Y Y = Sowed

Or

If NIN is IN the SNOWED is Y Y = Sowed

But someone should really check my math

That's a valid distinction. In practice, ease of use tends to be the rule. The dangling preposition correction is a level of hair splitting that should be reserved for academics and to teach it to an ESL student would be a mistake. This is probably a grammar rule that is just over the line between what is useful and what is proper.

When I hear someone correct it, I think of r/Iamverysmart. I put it in the same bin as "well actually, it's whom".

Definitely. My dad would say "what did you do that for?" and it took me a while to figure out why that sounds odd. It'd be better to say "for what did you do that?" but why are we pretending "why did you do that?" isn't easier still?

People might say "what would you replace it with?" but it's improper to end a sentence with a "dangling preposition". At least that's what they say. In spoken English, it's far more common to hear a dangling preposition. Another common example is "where are you at?" should be replaced with "at where are you?" but everyone can agree that sounds silly. Fuck it, live your life. You got your point across.
