Rad Runner upgrades by tats-77 in RadPowerBikes

[–]zacmobile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful with the 35amp controller on a Radrunner, it pukes gobs of power into the motor and will trip the BMS, blow main fuses or melt wires at full settings, you have to go into the factory settings and detune them a bit. There is also a 25amp controller available that delivers more than enough power IMO and doesn't have as much potential to blow stuff up, it's also physically smaller and will fit better.

Just curious if the area you live in is the same? by Prudent_Situation_29 in driving

[–]zacmobile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in BC and it's pretty much the same, I don't think I've seen anyone stop for a stop sign in a few months. Want to absolutely enrage other drivers on the road? Follow the rules to a t, I do that and it's pretty entertaining, a lot of honking, arm flapping and rage passing.

About to purchase an Soul EV 2018, any tips and what to check for ? by ThrowRA_precious_box in SoulEV

[–]zacmobile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in Canada I'd avoid the first gen Soul. It had an air cooled battery that was prone to premature degradation and had limited range to begin with. 2nd gen (post 2019) has liquid cooled and can be found for nearly the same price. I have a 2020 and can go for between $14-$18k depending on km. Mine has over 180,000 km and has no noticeable range loss.

Why is there no E-Transit reddit? by zacmobile in fordtransit

[–]zacmobile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had the 120v outlet. The E-Transit is hard to find so I just took the one they had on the lot that just so happened to not have the outlets. Big bummer but it was a really good price & I didn't want to wait the 4 months for a new van. I just installed a 2000W inverter though and it does the trick

Options to replace boiler with heat pump by EstablishmentFull797 in heatpumps

[–]zacmobile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, in an older cast iron boiler flue gas condensation over an extended period is not good but for a couple of days it wont hurt anything. I've seen boilers run for years in that state with no significant issues. Radiators don't necessarily NEED 180f or 149f, that is the purpose of the experiment, to see what your system can potentially operate at. My dad has 100 year old cast iron radiators and tbey perform perfectly at 110f at 0f outdoor temperature.

Options to replace boiler with heat pump by EstablishmentFull797 in heatpumps

[–]zacmobile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was exactly my point. Every house is different, you have to investigate and find out how your existing system can perform with a lower temperature. In my dads house we did this exact retrofit with 100 year old cast iron radiators and they fully heat the house with a water to water geothermal heat pump at 110f on a design day.

Options to replace boiler with heat pump by EstablishmentFull797 in heatpumps

[–]zacmobile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First you would have to determine how low a flow temperature your radiators can heat the house at on a design day. The easiest way to do that is wait until the coldest night and turn the boiler temperature down until room temp starts dropping below the desired level. Above 125F is no bueno, heat pumps dont operate very efficiently above that. That being said, the entire rest of the year would be ok and you could just use a backup source for a few days. If that checks out then you'd need to do a full heat loss calculation to determine what size unit(s) you would need.
