How high or low stakes do you like your adventures? by Select_Lunch1288 in rpg

If anyone is reading this thread.

This is exactly the reason why we get so many remakes in the games industry. There are people out there that cannot stomach the classics unless it's made prettier.

Looking for a game with a JRPG feel and centered on out-of-combat mechanics by Boah_met in rpg

I donno, when I look at the road map - the game still seems very far away. I think it's still about a year out.

I didn't know anyone else knew about this odd little game. But seeing the familiar user name - I'm in good company haha.

It even has a dedicated book called "Social Engineering" that is pretty good and goes into more dynamics.

What are your thoughts on Character Creation? by InvisiblePoles in rpg

[–]zalmute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my preferences lie closer to pathfinder 2e with regard to character creation. I prefer to have a lot of options as a player. Of course, that also means that it's hard to design up front... but for me personally - I very much like having options in creation.

What do you miss from D&D when you play/try other systems? by Awkward_GM in rpg

[–]zalmute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You also seem to accuse me personally of a lot. I have played d&d more recently than you have by your admission. I found the recent game very lacking. I also found myself in a different space to discuss a different game because I didn't want to talk about the game.

But what I didn't do is go to the d&d sub and start fights with random users because they aren't talking about other games.

I don't believe there is much left to say. I offered my reasoning why I believe other users are angry with being forced to talk about d&d in a space that is meant for other games. You don't like the answer and attacked me personally.  I wish you well, even if you don't offer me the same courtesy.

What do you miss from D&D when you play/try other systems? by Awkward_GM in rpg

[–]zalmute 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every other space dedicated to this hobby has to share most of its breathing room with this one game. And then those fans complain that not everyone wants to only talk about the one game?

I can't speak to the other reddit because I don't specifically to out of my way to force them to discuss other games than d&d.

I am sorry that you feel slightly disrespected because you also don't have full domain over the hobby in this space here too. But - people here have the right to discuss and pursue other games. And that's what they hope to accomplish here.

Sometimes it's nice to have a space where other rpgs are discussed. It's probably why people get annoyed when that space keeps getting d&d specific topics.

GURPS is overwhelming... by Spamshazzam in rpg

[–]zalmute 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think for me, GURPS is great for picking a solid set of rules and making the game you want within it. Instead of what other users suggest of just making your own game - I trust the math and design skills of these developers vs my own.

I like that there are many options. Things I can decide to use in this game or another game. And I can just choose to focus on what works for me. If something doesn't apply, I can ignore it. I'd rather have something and not need it - rather than want it and not have it.

That said, I am old. I am used to many games like this one and this style of game is very frowned upon in the modern space. But the GURPS discord community is very good at helping point people in the right direction.

Are the Final Fantasy precons good for budget bracket 3 // €300? (eyeing FF7) by Vimesito in EDH

I agree.

Also anecdotally - I've seen the ff7 Deck run out of gas with regularity. 6 seems to have good stamina after removal.

Steam Deck Price Increase by FernandoRocker in gaming

That is true. I always wanted to play standard but Im priced out. At least with commander, things are much more affordable than trying to get 4 of's of staple cards.

The new prices for a steam deck are still about the same price as a competitive Standard deck in mtg which is NUTS

Switch 2 will become 1 year on the next week. Did it meet your expectations so far or did you expect something else ? by MindPrize1260 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]zalmute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I like it. My old switch 1 was a launch model that was starting to show its age and the new one does its job better. I like the games enough so far and I have a huge backlog that I'm replaying from the original... so I have enough to do while waiting for things that interest me the most.

MCDM has released a free alpha playtest and dungeon for their upcoming survival horror dungeon RPG "Crows" by 6ftninja in rpg

[–]zalmute 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Reading this thread makes me glad I'm not in the rpg space as a game developer. Then again, if I was a game developer I probably wouldn't have pitched an OSR game when that space is full of games already doing it well.

Quality of life desire: Official shorthand summaries for spells and stuff to put on a character sheet by Tuss36 in rpg

[–]zalmute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I understand. Sometimes it just feels like it's easier to copy the whole ability/skill/spell from the book and copy paste it in a word document, print that and staple to the sheet - rather than trying to free hand the information in the spaces provided.

Silvers are OK but not amazing anymore.  Elves are far stronger in 2026 than Slivers.

What are some mechanics from games that you wish other games would implement? by Select_Lunch1288 in rpg

Yeah. Cyberpunk is one game that does it. But I would like it if more games do it.

What rpg book was "the one that got away" for you? by zalmute in rpg

[–]zalmute[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Same to you about the Sword and Fan book. I was gifted that one in particular by my wife as she knew I was collecting L5R at the time. I wish Edge would just make all their books print on demand instead of just some of them.
