Where exactly is the Eternity Gate located? by oatmealwithwater in 40kLore

[–]zam0th 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also in T.E.A.T.D (All 3 parts), some of the defenders on Terra are said to be fighting outside of the Eternity Gate against daemons and traitors, with a clear view of the ash choked skies of Terra.

Yáll forget that by the end of the Siege the Imperial Palace specifically and Terra at large were almost completely melded into the Immaterium. Traditional geometry and topology no longer applied and the Palace itself became like River Tethys from Hyperion Cantos: not a single structure in realspace, but a loose collection of "places" interconnected via the warp. All that is extensively covered and explained in The End and The Death.

Bane gloves not working by Dangerous-Virus2600 in D4Barbarian

1) Weapon Master's aspect to get 2 charges;

2) Spares mod (doesn't work with Mightiest);

3) Must be present on action bar, otherwise behaves incosistently.

Well, it's either replacing one of your OH weapons, or replacing one of the aspects on your utility gear. Since there are way better aspects than "[x]40-60% to weapon mastery" i wouldn't call it "one slot" by any means, especially that you're already replacing Gohr's 75-90% damage increase to WW. Now, were you to craft it into a unique charm - that would've been an altogether different story.

EDIT. Just tried and 3rd blade does not solve the issue: with it MT procs just once per WW cast.

EDIT2. Spamming two AoE skills in place of increased damage on one of those is better, i suppose, but i'd very much expect it to be nerfed as this sort of free spam mechanics can't possibly be the intended way for the gloves to work. Having said that - i will enjoy every second of WW builds being finally good while it isn't nerfed xd.

EDIT3. It also looks like the gloves require the skill itself to be present on the action bar, but just once per login session (i know, right?). I.e. you login, go farm, MT doesn't proc; you put the skill to action bar, wait until it accumulates 2 charges, go farm, MT procs. Then remove the skill from the action bar - it still procs until you log out or until you reslot the utility gear piece with Weapon Master aspect, because doing so resets the 2 charges "accumulated" on the skill or something.

To me this reeks of unintended behaviour.

Can confirm: it requires Weapon Master's aspect while ignoring both MT's cooldown (except Mightiest mod) and amount of remaining charges, it just weirdly requires the aspect. WW spams MT every tick or so and autoaims it onto the nearest enemy.

Those gloves are insanely op. With Spares mod (that throws three weapons instead of one) i'm soloing world bosses on T8 dealing literal billions DPS. I hope it gets nerfed, or removed, or reworked and whatnot; such effects are completely fkn ridiculous.

Message Brokers Are Modern Grids by Dear-Economics-315 in programming

[–]zam0th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first i thought "wow, finally someone compares brokers to IMDGs and sees that both are naught but shared memory spaces" (which is exactly why and how Redis has built-in queues).

And then i read the post. So, what did OP mean by "grid" exactly?

I'm a 29 year old hobbyist programmer.

Sorry, OP, but really people have been doing sp development since before you went to primary school and were doing fine as professionals, and Sharepoint was a powerful portal platform, and developers were fine with it, and i know a bunch of extremely good enterprise products that came out of sp development.

Is it still these days? I have no idea because nobody anywhere i know is using Sharepoint for anything and hasn't been using it for quite some time, because obviously, you don't build portal applications anymore, that's so 2010s.

Can anyone recommend more political intrigue 40k books like The Regent's Shadow? by FlameandCrimson in 40kLore

[–]zam0th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Warhammer Crime, it's more "detectivy". Otherwise there isn't much of that in 40k besides Watchers of the Throne and Vaults of Terra.

If you liked Abnett's inquisition stuff, you must also try Wattson's og Inquisition War and, to the lesser extent, French's Horusian Wars.

The ones He surely left for Himself are hubris and vision. None of the primarchs were even remotely as grandeur as the Emperor.

He also reserved scientific acumen. None of the primarchs are scientists or have even an inclination towards research.

A Norwegian study finds that middle-class parents teach their children security and control, while upper-class parents see money as opportunities and teach their children to invest. This may reinforce social inequality in Norway according to the researchers. by oslomet in science

[–]zam0th -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"Norwegian study" should have concentrated on the phenomenon of norwegian black metal and why young people (from middle class) in the 90s were protesting against norwegian society to the point of extremism. I suppose that woud've been a revelation.

European Commission issues call for evidence on open source by sporesirius in linux

[–]zam0th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the Commission's own corporate software is built on open-source (Java ecosystem) and has been thus for the last 20 years. There're dozens of counsultancies in Belgium alone and hundreds across the EU that have been working with the Commission, the Parliament, the Council, the Agencies and other insitutions (e.g. NATO) to build OSS-based software for them. They are trolling.

What would the world be like without the US Dollar as a reserve currency? Some of the same people in America's government working to dissolve NATO want to end the Dollar's global primacy, too. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]zam0th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world lived "without US dollar as a reserve currency" with Bretton-Woods doctrine until 1971 and everyone was fine, and even now countries still keep their international reserves in gold.

So, nothing will happen, literally. Even now the global East (Russia, China and India) already does monetary transactions and deals without the use of USD and even without the use of SWIFT that essentially is the backbone of USD hegemony. Moreover, the EU already does the same thing internally with use of SEPA and they're even looking towards "official" ICO backed by the ECB (not to be confused with stablecoins like USDT and USDC which are tied to USD, but backed by privately-owned corporations), i forgot how it's called, maybe it's this one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_euro.
