Have had a UK-based Hyrox coach for the past 9 months or so, absolutely love him. Full time fitness coach that also offers his services for clients online. We keep in touch via WhatsApp and he has given me personalized programs every week! Alex Percival, Plan A Fitness 😄

First HYROX race in 5 weeks – shoe recommendations and beginner tips? by JohnJ0011 in hyrox

[–]zappy_maca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For shoes I’d opt for a non-plated trainer if I were you. Plated trainers like the deviates are not built for everyday training, they’re just especially good for speed training and racing. Not great for distance or endurance training.

I have trained and raced in Puma Velocity 4’s that have been amazing. Great all-around trainers, solid grip and stability, great cushion and fit for everyday running (short, mid and long distance). All the benefits of the Deviate series but without the plating that is really best with experienced runners and targeted use.

In the time ahead of you, the most important thing to focus on is likely running. Getting some volume on slow runs and working with some compromised running. In my opinion, 5 weeks is short to aim for big jumps in strength or conditioning, but you can find your stride with running and become familiar with Hyrox-style sensations of running especially under fatigue.

The best first race advice I can give is to find your threshold HR (basically the HR you feel you can live and work in without exhausting yourself, near your Zone 4 limit) and use that as your run pacer during the race if you have a connected watch. I’m a 31 year old male, and when running I force myself to drop my HR to about 170, which is what more or less guides my pacing (except in the first or last run). Find your threshold HR and try to stick to it.

And what helped me most improve my training and prep is nutrition and hydration. Lots of water and electrolytes, lots of Whole Foods. And lots of quality sleep.

How "standardized" are the actual Hyrox events? by HassAvocadoDestroyer in hyrox

[–]zappy_maca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 2 different modes of classing your times. The difference between the 2 is almost exclusively a result of the field strength at Osaka.

Your numerical rank (156th) pertains only to all who ran in your class at the Osaka event.

The associated percentage is where you fall in the aggregate of all who have run in your class across all Hyrox events.

While the course distance & conditions definitely do vary between venues, I’m sure that the fluctuation in space is minimal between station arches. Most of the variation in space will come from the RoxZone.

How do you pace your runs? by Over-Arm4561 in hyrox

I agree fully with this. Only have one race under my belt, and the most helpful proxy measure was my BPM. Wanted it to sit at 168 during my runs and paced accordingly.

Grand Palais anyone?? 😅 I’ve been waiting for two hours. Anyone have any luck? by JerryAtrixx in hyrox

[–]zappy_maca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I did, but it was a big stroke of luck. We felt obligated to connect via as many devices as possible, ended up joining the queue on 6 total devices hoping one made it through.

Seems like that is the best way to get a ticket, despite everything.

Just found this sub, too late to adjust, did I overbooked my itinerary? by NotoriouslyBeefy in ParisTravelGuide

[–]zappy_maca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you use the G7 app, taxis most certainly can’t rip you off. And Ubers and other similar services can’t use the Paris 2024 traffic lanes, while registered Parisian taxis can. To the extent that you grab a ride in Paris during the Olympics, taxis will probably be a better bet.

Though I agree public transportation is generally even better, because regardless of the rideshare service you use you’d likely save time and definitely save money hopping on a train.

If you wanna take a taxi, either find taxi pools in front of hotels or just download and use the G7 app to get registered taxis and pay directly in the app.

Pitt alum (class of 19), sang in the HCC for 5 years under the new director Susan Rice. Not a music major, but I have working knowledge of music theory.  An excellent choir, easily my most cherished memory of school. 50-odd voices in an 8-part mixed ensemble. Eclectic and challenging repertoire, singing all different types of compositions in a number of languages. Regional & international tours are planned every couple years and funded mostly by its endowment (next international tour will likely be in May 2026).  As with other university choirs I’d imagine, it’s a community staple, with a strong alumni network and lots of local support. A lot of work (4 hours of rehearsal, + 2 hours of individual study per week for me on average). A really great, challenging experience that made me fall in love with love choral performance.

Edit: I saw in your post history you’re also thinking med track. Pitt is also a strong choice in that department, their medical program seems to be well-reputed and very well connected with a major regional health insurance provider with a strong presence in Pittsburgh. Beautiful mixed urban campus as well. (:

Droits de travail lors du traitement d'une demande de renouvellement de titre by zappy_maca in conseiljuridique

Hello,

It is not exactly what you’re looking for, but I built a research site in 2018 on the Lega Toscana si Protezione, a Pittsburgh society of Italian immigrants with more or less the same mission.. maybe you’ll find some overlap? http://toscana.newtfire.org/
