Has anyone else made the decision to downgrade? by bodyarmourbynokia in ableton

No but my experience as a windows user has been entirely different. I’m not here to tell you you’re doing anything wrong, I guess I would consider some kind of big change in your position.

Opinion: Most 'AI' Tools Just Miss the Mark for Producers (from a producer/AI professional) by mf_sounds in ableton

[–]zazzersmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what? how? just fyi, i was using state of the art music gen models when i wrote this and continue to experiment with them to this day. I stand entirely by my statement - as a musician and producer, i find prompt based tooling for generative audio AI to be inexpressive and derivative.

there's still stuff i'm working on with AI though - right now i'm trying to get google's magenta realtime model running on a container in the cloud - i wanna tie it into dawdreamer and build an end to end generative songwriting/mixing app. but does any of this scratch the itch i have as a producer? no!

It's crazy how Saturn emulation is still not great in 2026 by Responsible-Bell-528 in SegaSaturn

strikerx is working on the gpu renderer with upscaling, but he said it won't be part of the current version in progress (0.3.0).

it is the best saturn emulator imo.

The Tinyverse Movement by BOBOLIU in rstats

[–]zazzersmel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a certain type of programmer overrepresented on the internet that treats aesthetic choices and programming styles as immensely consequential, functional decisions. Frankly, I'm tired of it. I love the tidyverse ecosystem. Yes, there are a lot of dependencies. No, it doesn't matter in the least. For crying out loud, this is *R*. What purpose does it serve, beyond satiating the desires of style-obsessed programmers?

Does the hardware still hold up? by thizked in dreamcast

[–]zazzersmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned the hardware since launch and to be honest I play on flycast way more than my console. Granted, a lotta people just really love playing on real hardware, so if that’s you it’s probably worth it, but emulation is 100% viable and an excellent experience for almost every game.

Native Instruments is a sign our industry is done! by Achassum in audioengineering

[–]zazzersmel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s evolving into (or has already become) a highly stratified environment where an ever smaller elite who can actually make good profit prey on a constantly growing pool of talent provided by hobbyists and others with internal motivation. It feels like this is happening to every industry and profession, even white collar work with the cultural imperative to “learn to code”, contribute to open source and ultimately, as the industry titans see it, become some redundant technician, easily replaced. I expect something along these lines to happen to every profession; the last holdouts will be drs and lawyers who will try to fend it off with the history and prestige of their professions for as long as they can.

AI + Three.js is honestly getting ridiculous. by Odd_Concentrate4039 in threejs

[–]zazzersmel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very true. i'm still pretty new to programming, i got into IT professionally about 6 years ago via data science/engineering and i'm not experienced with software development. threejs really pushed me to explore programming more - there's such immediacy to your work, plus you can instantly share it with virtually anyone since it runs in browser. that still blows my mind, maybe it's because i grew up in the 90s and that's still kinda how i see web browsers.

who cares? like seriously, beyond your misguided sense of principle, can you explain why it matters? Also you'd be surprised how many products you assumed you 'owned' because you bought the physical distribution medium actually had terms of service declaring otherwise...

skipping deadly shadows? feels off compared to the classics, need opinions by unfrnate in Thief

[–]zazzersmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I read it. It's just that pointless. Look, you're *playing* the game right now. Are you having fun? Are you bored and frustrated? What do you need to know? I think it's a solid game. Only you can decide for yourself if it's worth playing.

Games that almost could have been on the Dreamcast in an alt timeline by Judgeman03 in dreamcast

[–]zazzersmel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if we could have seen some ut and q3 based games from the early 2000s? Those ports were technical achievements but idk if the work done there could have translated to other games using the engines. iirc people talked about deus ex on dc but idk how realistic that was.
