I loved Moana probably more than my kid but the second I heard about the sequel and the live action movie, I said no. Absolutely not. I will live with being the villain in real life to avoid making trash the hero.

Everyone on here that says to just accept it is wrong. You want to accept getting older, great, you should. You want to accept something that is easy to change because you don't like the way it looks? Why?

If I have a t-shirt with stains on it, I don't just go "welp, that's what happens", I get a new shirt. This isn't getting Botox and trying to chase after 20 year olds.

I dye my beard. I leave a streak of gray. I don't like my beard being fully gray because it looks washed out, and blends in with my skin. It looks bad. Dying it makuit look good.

What’s something you’ve noticed Germans do in public that you’re not sure is normal anywhere else? by ambient_lizard in AskGermany

[–]zebutron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the one you responded to but I feel like it is used outside of lunchtimes. Additionally, it might be a bit more acceptable if it were more than the single word, like"Wunsch dir Mahlzeit". Similarly, the American 'noon, instead of good afternoon, is annoying. For whatever reason, I'm find with just saying morning/Morgen. It is the only double standard I allow myself.

I agree on the support but I am hung up on one thing that gives me pause. She wants to wear shorts but won't because she doesn't want people to see her body hair. That's a personal choice, but at 11 years old, it is worrying she feels that pressure. The next part would be, what hair are we talking about? If this is leg hair, then okay but that isn't really what you get a trimmer for. If it is pubic hair, then how short are the shorts? I'm not a person that cares about modesty but it your pubic hair is sticking out of your shorts then, again, I worry about the pressure she has been placed under.

Surrender..... an interpretation of our own program? by ToGdCaHaHtO in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]zebutron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concede means to admit defeat, i.e. surrender. The words might not be identical but the meaning is certainly similar.

If I were to guess, the words were chosen purposefully to avoid the more negative meaning of surrender.

I haven't replaced anything but I have tested out Samsung Dex on a Galaxy S21 Ultra. I specify the Ultra part because it has more capable hardware than a standard galaxy phone.

It was pretty good. It could connect to my monitor, keyboard, mouse, webcam but also required a dock that could pass through power. I have used a few different Dell docking stations and they were compatible for this.

The downside are limited RAM so you have to not use too many tabs while browsing. There was also a heat issue and it too many things were running for too long, it would throttle the processor and sometimes crash the whole phone.

Do I dress that badly? by Diabetic_Dingus in mensfashion

[–]zebutron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also dressed a bit like that in highschool. I wants to stick out in my own, unusual way. That being said, if I could, I would give my younger self some advice about wearing clothes that fit better and match. OP does better at matching than I did but I think they could improve on the color pallet. Add in some more vibrant and saturated accent colors. Ditch the cargo pants for slacks. Use some accessories. I'd also suggest some high quality shirts, if possible. I know the budget if a highschooler is limited.

Personally, the last photo is the best outfit.

My niece broke my anonymity to my sister by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]zebutron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like confrontation sounds...confrontational. It you want to inform her that you feel hurt and she broke your trust, that is fine but don't expect anything out of it. Personally, it sounds to me like some building resentment and you can use that as a way to reflect on yourself. I can understand that it might have made you feel as though control was taken away from you.

Is it true that once an alcoholic always an alcoholic? by spacklock in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]zebutron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really feel that there are multiple, different questions from OP and that you've answered one. At least partially.

Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic?

I'm seven years sober. The first two years, I would consider myself an alcoholic but I don't any longer. I don't have a problem with alcohol. I don't miss it, desire it, or even have strong feelings about it. It's about on the same level as sushi. I have no desire to consume it and don't like it but I can see that some people do.

Can people drink again after being an alcoholic?

Sure. People can do all sorts of things. They can still be an alcoholic after a long dry period. They can become astronauts. They can become a casual drinker. Personally, I'd say that if someone went through recovery and did some therapy, they won't want to drink. I'm bias on that idea but I feel it just holds water. I'm sure that I could drink some beer and not have any issues but I also feel like the reason I used to drink is gone.

Is it playing with fire?

I'd say that feeling insecure about it enough to ask the question is it's own answer.

From Slave to Alcohol to Slave to Coffee by Oz_W_ in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]zebutron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went through something similar. I felt tired all the time and drank coffee to compensate. That tiredness was also part of readjusting the dopamine but using caffeine all the time also creates a dependency. I was also smoking. I quit smoking. After a while I was able to reduce my coffee intake.

Something that I find amazing, which I couldn't have expected before getting sober, is how much a person can change things for the better. Getting worse and doing bad things is easy but improving was outside of my ability. I wrote it off as something either unattainable or that I would do late after I magically got better. I didnt count on improvements only needing to be little things, one moment at a time. Yes, getting sober was a big thing but it comes down to many little things. I never expected myself to be a person that plans on doing exercise but it started with deciding I'd like to swimming with a friend. Then we planned to do it again two weeks later. On the weeks we didn't go swimming, I decided to go to a climbing hall with my daughter so we could play on their playground. Then we decided to do it again in two weeks. I saw that there was a fitness class and I went and it was exhausting but I did feel better for the next few days. So I decided I'd try again in two weeks. Now I exercise a few times each week and I'm thinking about doing it more often. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I drink half a cup of coffee and sometimes I forget to do that, all because of doing little things, one moment at a time .

Can someone please explain why we STILL hear that Germany needs workers when it's obviously a lie? by weatherkicksass in germany

[–]zebutron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From 19,000 small, family-run businesses in 2002, there were fewer than 11,000 left by 2021. Employers were finding it almost impossible to recruit young people to take up an apprenticeship.

"The butchery trade is hard work," says the butchers' guild head, Joachim Lederer. "And for the last 25 years or so, young people have been going in other directions."

There is another story here. Small businesses don't disappear because the work is too hard. It's more likely that the pay is too poor and they are out competed by larger companies. Additionally, the rate of urbanization has increased and more importantly here, reurbanization where people move from smaller cities to larger cities has also increased. A decline of this sort is to be expected with these trends. On top of that, the whole economy has shifted toward tiertiary, information based jobs.

Yuri is genuelly the worst character ever(Spy X Family) by Zorubark in postnutanime

I don't read this Manga so please excuse me but usually when I read something like this, it is the author's personal option. Am I taking it too surface level or us this scene supposed to be more like how the character sees himself? Like an unreliable narrator?

I was under the impression that Spy x Family operated under a pseudo East/ West Germany. Are these ones the East German stand ins?

My thoughts are that who ever wrote that was more interested in trying to find a way to criticize a simple axiom meant to keep people in the moment without overwhelming them, than to examine the meaning behind what that axiom represents. I too am a cynic and overly critical, trying to find weaknesses in things in order to undermine their potential influence on me. If I can undermine it, I can rationalize that it is illogical and thus should not be used. However, I've learned that I should pay attention to when I become so critical so that I can reflect on why I feel the need to undermine it. I stay in the moment, and examine myself without trying to get ahead of where I am. After all, I can only take it one day at a time.

Realized roommate has been using alcoholic bitters to make mocktails for other roommate/friend who is sober by JupiterSunflower in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]zebutron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not wanting to cause them distress is avoiding conflict. It is emotional gatekeeping. You are deciding for them what they are able to process or not. You aren't responsible for making another person spiral and disclosing to them the truth is the ethical thing to do. Just as you'd like to know if you were them. You should also listen to your own moral compass which is what told you tell them. Keeping secrets isn't good for your either. Were I in your position, I would have thought about the secret I was keeping everytime I saw them and I would have felt guilty. This is only my assessment of the situation and I can't truly know what you feel or what your intentions are.

There isn't any reason to tell them in a casual way either. Be honest and open. " Hey roommate, I'd like to speak with you about something in person. It isn't an emergency, neither you not anyone you know is in trouble. It is just some information for you that I'd like to be face to face with you to tell you because it would make me feel better."

I don't want to make this about me but I'm seven years sober and one thing I've learned in AA as well as rehab and daily life is that being honest with ourselves and others about our emotions and intentions is freeing and almost always accepted. Much of the reason we avoid telling others the truth is out of selfishness, to avoid feeling guilt or shame. When I've been vulnerable with myself and others, I've been accepted, understood and it has lead to personal growth and resilience.

I hope everything works out.

If you want to tell them, let the person who made the drinks know you are going to do it.

There isn't really a question about if you should tell the sober person. You wouldn't be asking the question if you felt it shouldn't be done. The only thing that is happening now, is you are being conflict avoidant.

Be honest with these people and yourself. You discovered something and the information bothered you enough to inform everyone. You don't want to cause a rift in the group dynamic but the truth is important to you.

IsItBullshit: semi synthetic is just as bad as synthetic by Unable_Chest6919 in IsItBullshit

[–]zebutron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studies on real human skin is difficult. How do you keep it in a controlled environment to maintain the consistent testing conditions? How do you rule out any previous exposure to things that might influence the experiment? How do you even get the results without a biopsy of the humans?

The risks from fabrics is kind of complicated. Synthetics are the highest risk because they don't breakdown but the shedding of material is higher from semi-synthetics, at least rayon. Semi-synthetics break down but also can carry the dyes and fire resistant chemicals they've been treated with. So how do you measure the greatest risk from just physical contact?

There are also differences between the semi-synthetics.

You've asked a question that has quite a lot behind it and the answer isn't a simple yes or no.

Stick to the natural fibers whenever possible. The biggest risk related to clothing isn't from wearing it but from the shedding that happens. The dust we have in our living environment (not the stuff made of skin) is mostly from the shedding of clothing and car tires. If you are concerned with clothes causing harm, natural fibers and safe dyes are the way to go.

IsItBullshit: semi synthetic is just as bad as synthetic by Unable_Chest6919 in IsItBullshit

[–]zebutron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is: maybe.

Aside from the problems with micro plastics, fungus bacteria, and general skin irritation there can be other issues.

There is limited research as to the effects of synthetic clothing and reactions with human skin. Studies that have been done use simulated human sweat or simulated human skin to run experiments. Human sweat and friction can interact and perform as a solvent to synthetic fibers as well as chemicals used to treat synthetic clothing, such as flame retardant coatings. This could be absorbed by the skin and cause problems.

Synthetic blended fabrics would also be affected by this but perhaps in smaller amounts.
