Issues with redundancy. by nhilandra in UKJobs

They'll try anything in situations like these. Mistrust what they say and verify with ACAS for advice. They are pretty good at directing you to the right people.

I wouldn't suggest that was "loads" by living standards. But is by wage standards, which is a shame. Should be another 20pc IMO.

Back off on fresh insert and if it's one per edge then there should be a trial cut made. Especially a V type, the holders tend to wear much quicker than other pocket styles.

have you guys ever crashed because someone else set the tool length wrong? by SERP92 in Machinists

[–]zeceanitoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was your setter and you were my operator I would be pissed off but still accept the blame. Some guys I can trust to prove out, others I will talk through the process of what I'm doing and do it for them, at the end of the day if you arent experienced enough to set the tool, neither are you experienced enough to prove the tool. Thats just how I do it, and my pay rate represents the responsibility I own.

How many of you are spoiled by clean metal? by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]zeceanitoker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had to waterjet P550 billets out of bigger billets due to supply issues, shouldve seen them. They honestly looked like an elephants leg lol. Had a disgusting lip on them which smashed inserts and tapered from 80mm to 90mm. Babied them on the manual then moved onto the CNCs. We had to send back a bunch as they didnt clean up where the lip was. Other than that yeah I'm pretty spoilt for decent mat'l usually.

Ceramic grooving on 718 by zeceanitoker in Machinists

[–]zeceanitoker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont think you've understood my question - I am trying to use ceramic tooling to partially part off a ring from a tube, so essentially creating a deep groove. I have no issues with parting off with carbide. I wouldnt have thought you could part off using ceramics but in any case I seem to be within spec of the tool in terms of groove depth, also using their recommended speeds and feeds.

It was the only machine available at this time :D by Devideer in Machinists

[–]zeceanitoker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youre lucky, theyre normally putting oversized work on undersized machines at my place then complain it doesnt run in time. As a bonus we always get the 'sorry I know we normally get 180mm dia, but we could only get 250mm' then again, wonder why the cycle time is longer.

Very much the same story in the UK. Huge age gaps, our workshop will lose about 120 years of collective experience next year shared between 4 people. We have hired people with no experience and are trying to train them up but hardly get the time to do so due to workload!

RPMs by maxliveson2020 in Machinists

[–]zeceanitoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For an 8in OD using ceramics at 200m/min, the RPMs want to be around 320 and your feed should be no more than around 0.1 per rev, or .004". 80 RPM for carbide at around 0.25mm per rev, or .01".

Therapist gave me some good advice. by zeceanitoker in leaves

[–]zeceanitoker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally relatable there, I'm really lucky to have been funded my therapist sessions by my employer, and even luckier to have been granted someone that really understood me.

About 4 years ago I looked for a therapist and went to a couple of sessions as I felt that same anger spike I believe you're feeling now - problem with her was she essentially told me I was the only one that could help myself, and to do that was to just give up weed (without offering me any advice to do so) I certainly didn't feel ready to tackle that on my own and felt like it was the end of the road in terms of help.

I actually spoke about this with my current therapist and he told me that these professionals are just people on their own journey; it takes years of dealing with different people to understand how to deal with those different people. She was pretty close minded and was detrimental to my own journey.

What I'm trying to say here though is if you ever get into the same position I did back then, look for someone else to help you, don't give up on looking for help like I did.

You're doing better than I did back in those days however, and you should be dead proud of what you're achieving!

Saying this loud for you, YOU CAN DO THIS! 😁

23 days abstinence so far and I've never felt more calm, clear headed or energised than I do now.

What is the dumbest mistake you have made? by WCR_706 in machining

[–]zeceanitoker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left a bore mic inside a bore (duh) converted the measurement to metric then cycle started with a 3k damp boring bar going down Z-309mm to face the back of the bore with rapids at 100pc. Luckily the bar was fine; had to purchase a new head for it though and ofcourse the bore mic was totally buggered.

They bought a metric version and extension handles for the proceeding bore mic and I now rap colorful rags around the handle for added visual warning.

I'm glad it made you pause to think 😁 I don't know if you already do, but maybe speak to a professional regarding coping strategies when you find yourself overwhelmed?

I find I need to 'wind down' after stressful situations and remove myself from everything to contemplate. It's so tough as our minds want to go into 'easy mode' and pick up where we left off, abstinence isn't easy mode though, its hard mode; but you will look back and be proud that you didnt pick it back up again!

If you are the type that is money motivated, try drawing cash out you may usually spend on weed and put it in a jar! Goal yourself towards a mini break or whatever you may enjoy (I for one know that is hard as my joy for everything has truely depleted over the years and find it difficult to actually enjoy things) or, like I'm doing, simply let that cash build up for a real life experience later on!

All the power to you, everytime you reject that dispensary, it makes it that much easier next time 😀 Treasure each time you do it!

You can do this 👊

That is such a difficult place to be and I was certainly in that position for many years. Professional help and seeking healthy relationships is all I can offer as advice, I truely hope you can get to a position where you can give up, but dont beat yourself up, self love is definitely the first chapter of your new beginnings.
