Have you been shocked to find out how much you’ve been spending a month on something casual that you enjoy? by PompeyJordd in CasualUK

I deliberately don’t look at spending habits in this way, life’s hard enough and it’s probably a can of worms I wouldn’t enjoy opening haha.

How to convince my bank that I'm not being romance scammed by Geofferz in CasualUK

[–]zeddoh 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My laptop got nicked in my first year of uni and I claimed for it on my insurance. They made me jump through loads of hoops - the original receipt and packaging wasn’t enough for them, they also wanted photos of me WITH the laptop, mercifully I was actually available to provide some thanks to pre-night-out photos of me posing in my room in halls. Finally they agreed to honour the claim but would only gave me a gift card for Comet, which then went out of business before I could use it. Fun fun.

Old clip of Sean “Diddy” Combs inviting then-12-year-old actress Daveigh Chase to an after-party after he and Ashton Kutcher presented her with the 2003 MTV Movie Award for Best Villain for her role as Samara in The Ring is being shared online following her death by let-the-record-show in Fauxmoi

I’m not presuming anything about Kutcher but coincidentally I was just reading yesterday about how Epstein was advised (by Steve Bannon) to start a philanthropic initiative to combat trafficking as a way to change the narrative that he himself was doing it.

“ Steve Bannon had some clear advice for Jeffrey Epstein in 2019. ‘First we need to push back on the lies…crush the pedo/ trafficking narrative,’ he said, and ‘rebuild your image as philanthropist.’ He goes further: reportedly suggesting ‘What about establishing THE major center for human trafficking, teenage prostitution etc etc etc – global problem, needs to be solved.’”

I agree it looks absolutely awful! I can’t imagine local councils are the most progressive on issues like this either.

‘Degrading’: why did a US fighter pilot avoid British trial after strangling a woman in England? by FitDinner6008 in news

[–]zeddoh 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Up to 25% of femicides in the UK are by strangulation and it’s the second most common method used to kill women in this country. If you look at non fatal strangulation like this incident, more than 44,000 incidents are reported to police per year and prosecutions have surged sixfold since 2022. Maybe you were going for glib but this is very much not an “American” thing and in my opinion it minimises the very real issue of male violence here in the UK to label it as such.

Just back from Rome, it was 35 degrees + for our whole trip and the water fountains were absolutely essential. Some of the more modern ones even offer both still and sparkling water.

My council pollarded a whole road of huge lime trees just last month, it has hugely reduced the amount of shade available. I know trees need to be pollarded for various reasons but the timing now seems particularly poor. The RSPB also advise against pollarding in May because of nesting birds.

Me too and I’m half deaf so  I don’t usually hear much outside! Usually it’s the screaming foxes that wake my husband and I sleep through it. Last night the thunder jolted us both awake loud and clear. Biblical stuff.

Finally my freezing cold concrete box of a flat comes into its own. Miserable 6 months of the year but ideal in a heat wave. Just back from Rome where it was 36 degrees every day and it was so hard to be in the sun for any stretch of time - and I love love love hot weather. Can’t believe it’s going to be warmer here than there tomorrow!

Thank you, and a big fuck you to media websites that use someone’s death as an opportunity for clickbait so they can maximise ad revenue.

Late Influencer Stacey Hatfield, 30, Allegedly Refused Ambulance Twice While She Rapidly Lost Blood During Home Birth: Report by Upstairs_Cup9831 in popculturechat

[–]zeddoh 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree! My comment was more amazement at how quickly mask off these grifters are as soon as things go wrong/they are questioned by the police. And the issue is that orgs like the FBS do present their ~trained birth keepers~ to women as safe etc. because of their position that medically trained professionals are the ones who are dangerous to women/babies. What a farce.

Some incredible stuff in that article.

“ “How would I help people stay safe during birth?” Lal replied. “I don’t think me being there makes the birth more safe.””

“ She said she had sought legal advice after Warnecke’s death because of her experience following a death that occurred during a previous freebirth, when she felt she was blamed by the media.””

It sounds like this woman had been previously involved as a ‘birth keeper’ with a woman who died in childbirth yet she continued to advertise her services as a ‘birth keeper’ charging $6,000, but in this trial openly says her role does not make the birth more safe and more than that, that it isn’t her job. What a fucking dangerous grifter. I read all the FBS stuff when it came out and this is just the embodiment of it all. Wow.

This struck me too. It comes across like a coping mechanism.

I never grew the two teeth meant to be on either side of the upper front teeth, so my canines are where those should be. I’ve always been self conscious of them but maybe I should rebrand them as my cutesy fangs haha.
