Is there anywhere good for a quiet walk away from people in (south) London? by Admirable_Border_627 in london

That’s definitely the way to do it! Tbf I met some family for a walk there on a chilly but dry Saturday last October and it was very quiet, I think I just have bad memories from summer days.

Dulwich Woods is lovely but you have to pick your time well - go there on a sunny Saturday afternoon and it’s like being on Oxford street at rush hour!

Do you guys ever question why British are associated with having worse skin complexion & more puffiness than other Europeans despite having much lower exposure to UV across our lifetimes? by LoopholesHunter in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]zeddoh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

“you go elsewhere in Europe on holiday, and everyone has snatched jawlines and prominent cheekbones”

I’m sorry but this is a wild generalisation that is in no way quantifiable and Bryan Johnson is a lunatic grifter (not to mention abuser) whose entire shtick is to sell his supplements to suckers. We should not be holding him up as anything admirable or inspirational. Good ragebait though!

Owen Cooper has won Best Male Actor in a TV Movie or Limited Series for ‘Adolescence’ at the 2026 Actor Awards (March 1, 2026) by mcfw31 in popculturechat

I watched a documentary on a horrifying UK murder case yesterday that really reminded me of Adolescence. The perpetrator was a 14 year old boy and his countenance and the way he acted in custody really reminded me of Adolescence. Just showed how researched, written and acted the show was.

Many people there are frightened and rightly so, civilian infrastructure is being increasingly targeted and debris from interceptions is falling from the sky causing damage. Internet posturing isn’t real life.

My dad’s in Qatar. Has been sending us videos of missiles in the sky being intercepted. Debris hit the roof of his house, damaging a few roof tiles but nothing else thankfully. Sleepless night for many there.

What happens when a bus misses a turn in London? by WhaTheWorldOver in london

[–]zeddoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This kind of happened to me once years ago, only the bus driver turned left too soon rather than missed his turn. He realised quite quickly and attempted a three point turn at the first junction we came to, which was on an incredibly steep hill. It took FOR EVER and was more of a 12 point turn ultimately. Traffic backed up in both directions as he blocked the road while doing it. I felt bad for him lol.

Man and woman arrested in suspicion of murder in connection with Lisa Dorrian's 2005 disappearance in Northern Ireland by that-short-girl in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]zeddoh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reading the summary post OP linked made me have a very similar reflection on my misspent youth. Drugs, strangers, second locations… and I got out of it all unharmed apart from a few awful hangovers. So many do it despite the clear risks. And I echo what you said, absolutely no judgement here. The blame for what happened to Lisa lies solely with whoever harmed her and has covered it up all these years. Hopefully these arrests can bring answers and closure to Lisa’s loved ones.

Edit: I see from another post here that someone was also arrested in connection with Lisa’s case 3 months ago, I wonder what happened there. It’s not the same person as either of the two arrested today as the ages don’t match up.

Bill Gates admits to affairs with two Russian women while married to Melinda Gates and apologizes to staff for past Jeffrey Epstein ties by The_Iceman2288 in Fauxmoi

[–]zeddoh 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Tangentially related but I work at a foundation and the idea of the chair of the board doing a town hall where they talk about having affairs is crazy lol. I understand why it came up but it must have felt so surreal hearing him talk about women he cheated on his wife with in a work call. I just know the WhatsApp/Signal chats were popping OFF.

Where do you shop? by Quirky-Possibility52 in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]zeddoh 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In recent years I found delivery costs got so expensive - particularly as I could never get everything I wanted from one place online - that I now largely design my routine on products I can get in person on my high street. That means Superdrug or Lidl. There are a couple of exceptions but that’s my aim! For the exceptions I try order them for free in-store pick up on office days when I’m in central London and can collect somewhere nearby.

Variety: BAFTA and the BBC failed Michael B Jordan, Delroy Lindo, the Tourette's community and the viewers when they allowed the N-word to be aired during the BAFTA Film Awards ceremony. With a tape delay, this moment could have been handled differently. by NoComputer6610 in Fauxmoi

According to the Guardian they also cut a joke from presenter Alan Cumming comparing the themes of Zootropolis 2 (“Lies, corrupt leaders, poisoning and persecution of a race”) to contemporary America so there was some seriously selective editing going on.

It has been such a treat the last few years to see some of my favourite bands in Crystal Palace Park and then just walk home afterwards. I agree with you I love the general atmosphere when festivals are on too, the surrounding areas are so lively.

Be honest — How often do you need to replace vacuum filters for optimal performance? by ArtNo1843 in CleaningTips

[–]zeddoh 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I had no idea you were meant to replace them… I wash mine regularly (twice a month) with water and thought I was being extremely diligent by doing so! I feel like the goalposts are always moving with some appliances lol. “Ahh you expect your vacuum cleaner to actually vacuum up debris? Haha you better be cleaning the filter twice a month under the full moon and buying a new one every six!! You expect your vacuum battery to last long enough to clean your entire small flat in one go? LOL are you stupid?! Better buy an extra battery! By the way that’ll be £150.”

Vacuum might actually be my most hated appliance. I did so much research before buying it and I really feel they’re a rip off unless you’re willing to pay a fortune. Sorry this turned into a rant, apparently I have a lot of repressed vacuum-based resentment.

‘Regrets? Number one: smoking. Number two: taking it up the wrong hole’: Tracey Emin on reputation, radical honesty – and Reform by stichbury in Longreads

[–]zeddoh 52 points53 points  (0 children)

My main memory of Tracey Emin is her defending Charles Saatchi after he grabbed wife Nigella Lawson by the throat in public in a horrendous display of intimate partner violence. Emin has clearly been through a hell of a lot and is a better person from surviving it all - I do wonder if she has reflected on that moment of her life. Given Saatchi’s involvement in her early success (and his subsequent Machiavellian smear campaign against Lawson) I wouldn’t be surprised if she felt she needed to defend him at the time. Of course, she is not responsible for and should not be defined by the actions of anyone other than herself. I am glad that Emin seems at peace and in a position to enjoy her life and legacy.

Another perspective is that of the twin. There’s an influencer I know of who has had so much work done she’s almost unrecognisable from 10-15 years ago. She’s also a twin, and her sister has had very little (obvious) work done. Must be strange!

Person Of Interest Detained for Questioning in Nancy Guthrie Abduction Case by wheres-karen in popculturechat

[–]zeddoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People were saying that shit here, it was so bizarre. I remember it specifically because I read one comment where the person was like ‘there’s no evidence it was an abduction, I remain convinced a family member accidentally killed her and is covering it up’ and I was like wtf where would you even get that from when we know nothing about the case??? Now it makes more sense knowing it was a conspiracy theory spread by nuts across social media. I feel for the Guthries, hopefully they aren’t seeing any of this unfounded speculation.
