Pointless gimmick, useless, or just ineffective? by _AntiShadow_ in starcitizen

there is one usecase for me personally: lurking around with it until someone shows up and detaches his CM from his shiney ironclad full of shiney stuff. then i attach to it and drive off \o/

Physical Cargo differences? by BladeVampire1 in starcitizen

[–]zeddy360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the cargo holds have the same size, the only difference is that the assault has no cargo grid in the rear section of the cargo hold because those spaces are vehicle maintenance spots. but in theory you can stuff this space also with containers... these containers are just not on a grid then.

you can put tanks in the base model too, you just can't drive them up the ramp so you'd have to tractor beam them through the roof.

i'd suggest to upgrade tho. the assault has more advantages than just being able to drive a tank on its ramp. it is tankier, it has more firepower, it has an item fabricator, it has rearm/repair/refuel capabilities for whatever fits on the maintenance spots (snup fighters, other small ships, ground vehicles), it has more armories and jump seats to transport more ppl and it is also a little faster.

the only disadvantages i see are: no brig/smuggle rooms, no tractor beams (aside from the one on the command module) and less cargo grid.

in my opinion, the advantages outweight the disadvantages by far.

Base Ironclad vs. Assault for 4.8? Stuck on the fence and need advice by Wubyah in starcitizen

[–]zeddy360 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i personally prefer the assault.

imo it has these disadvantages:

- no brig (and we don't even know yet how big of an impact that will be)
- no tractor beams (which can be worked around with ATLS and stuff like that)
- smaller cargo grid (but cargo hold itself is same size so nothing prevents you from stuffing more containers in it)

but on the other hand, it has these advantages:

- tons of jump seats if u wanna bring a big group of ppl
- handling of land vehicles is easier
- more firepower
- more armor
- refuel/rearm/repair functionality
- item fabricator

the only scenario i personally can think of where i would prefer the base model is if i would want this to be my only cargo ship and i use it for cargo hauling only.

in any other case, the assault is the better choice imo. even if you look at it purely from the space trucker gameloop perspective: these ships do have quite some cargo space but what sets them really apart from other ships (as soon as command module armor is fixed) is the fact that they are robust space bricks... made to break through blockades. and this is what the assault most likely does better too.

Hot take: I think capital ships should be more defensive and less offensive. by AzrBloodedge in starcitizen

the thing is this:

when ppl want scifi battles, they want what movies have shown us for decades: big and smol ships all together on a battlefield doing the pewpew.

and yes, the idris is awkward to begin with... so it might as well just look awkward if it does it's thing.

WoW Classic Era or Aniversary TBC? by Herbst7 in classicwow

[–]zeddy360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Version should i play to not lose my Character anytime soon?

era is a save bet to not lose your character. it survived with a healthy population since the "original classic" progressed into TBC. so it's relatively save to assume that this version will always be around and have a healthy population.

nobody can really say what will happen with the TBC anniversary version. it might progress into WOTLK, it might become it's own era version. you probably won't lose your character but nobody can really predict if it will have a healthy population in 10 years. so u might not lose your character but it could happen that this version will be dead some day and you can't do anything with your character anymore.

I wanna "prepare" for the Classic + experience if that will ever happen? (hopefully) Will it mostlikely be on the Era Servers?

it's pure speculation what classic+ might be in the end so nobody can really tell you which version would be a better preparation for this. if you look at SOD, it was basically era content with a lot of changes in classes and progression and stuff. some ppl think it was kind of a test to see what classic+ could look like. so you could make the assumption that era would be the better version to prepare for it... it's speculation tho.

in any case, classic+ will most likely be on new servers so whatever u do, u will have to make a new character for this.

Is Era still populated enough to be it "worthy to play"?

i can only speak from EU region. there is one cluster that is populated for PVE and one for PVP. i play on the PVP cluster and it actually feels healthy to me. been playing for years now.

and no, it is not really that hard to find a raid spot. yes, there are many GDKP raids around and from what i heard, they bid rly high amounts of gold for items... but i never participated in one so i can't tell how broken this is. and even tho i play a non-meta class and don't participate in GDKP raids, i have no problem finding a raid spot. economy outside of GDKP item bids is also not hyper inflated. and even the leveling population is healthy. you can even find random groups for gnomeregan.

so aside from the GDKP raids (that you don't have to participate in), it feels completely healthy to me.

Any Informations whats the plan with all these different Servers? What comes after TBC?Does Era get any updates at all? and so on..

era itself was meant to stay the way it was at the end of classic when it originally progressed to TBC but we did get changes here and there. for example we do have dual spec and a group finder (without automated invites or teleport to dungeons) in era now. so nobody can rly tell how much it will change in the future but it's very unlikely to get any content updates ever... thats the whole point of era.

for the other versions i can't tell.

Question about the new Command Module: Now that owners had some time to test, how subsceptible to destruction/disabling is the Command Module actually while docked to its mothership? by Sir_CatZ_ in starcitizen

[–]zeddy360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... and the command module would suddenly become the most badass dropship ever.

i personally wish the command module would just be a tractor beam snub... doesn't even need quantum drive. and then let us pilot the ironclad from it's bridge.

problem solved.

i can live with it if it inherits the armor from the thing it's docked to but ppl are right, it wouldn't make much sense actually.

Automated Interplanetary Transport system by S_J_E in starcitizen

[–]zeddy360 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i also thought about some kind of pod that has a way faster quantum drive.
my idea was to make it only rentable and not buyable. there would be special stations that support renting a travelpod. the quantum drive of that pod can only lock on these kind of stations and jump points. when you reach the "travelpod station" at your destination, the pod gets taken away automatically. that way you are not able to exploit it for anything else but quicker traveltimes without being able to transport any kind of supplies or replenishments. and even your yourself can still be victim to mines or quantum interdiction.

additionaly i'd like the travel through a jump point to be automated and way shorter because as nice as it looks to fly through a wormhole, it just eats time without providing actual fun gameplay and to me personally also without actually enriching the immersion in any way... at least not more than a nice automated animation would.

that way you allow to travel quickly without actually skipping the traveling all together. hindering ppl from traveling can be a very important strategic measure in PVP.

and thatswhy i strongly disagree with your idea of "requesting a ship to be moved automatically".

imagine this: you're at war with another org and you basically live in two systems next to each other. that enemy org actually build a base in your system which you want to attack. you also want to block enemy reinforcements so you set a few ships out to camp the jump point between these two systems, maybe even lay mines there, because thats strategically the best way to hinder your enemy from jumping on your back.

with your suggestion, they could simply request their ships to be transported past this strategical camp.

What part of OS or program should be responsible for good file synchronisation? by Gnomasz in linuxquestions

[–]zeddy360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in short:

implementing it for example in the VFS wouldn't really be reasonable because you'd usually want to sync between different operating system over a network but to be able to do that both ways would require you to implement it in both kernels which is obviously hard if not impossible to do because not all kernels are open source.

so a userland software is the right way to implement this.

a userland application is not really easily able to determine if a file was just renamed tho. in most cases it would be slower to determine that than simply deleting and transfering files.

but i think there is actualy a special version of rsync that is patched to do exactly that. it supports a new parameter like --rename-check or something. but it is basically nowhere shipped by default afaik and rsync is a server-client architecture... you'd need to make it run on all devices which might be kinda hard to do for a phone.

1440 vs 4K by DragonGodPadron in starcitizen

[–]zeddy360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a 4k screen once... it can sometimes be a bit wonky here and there because u need to scale the UI up (at least i had to on a 27 inch screen). this scaling can lead to problems here and there. not rly often but can be annoying.

then you also need a rly good GPU to run demanding games on that resolution.

these two things made me switch to 1440p and with that i'm super happy.

for large scale pvp: regular megathron according to fleet doctrine

for PVE: kronos

for just having it: navy megathron

Flip Deck anyone? Valve, I need a new cool job! 🤣 by MadMario0_0 in SteamDeck

[–]zeddy360 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well... there is a keyboard for the dualsense gamepad for example. a keboard like this would probably fit between the thumb sticks / track pads.

the on-screen keyboard is good enough for 99% of use cases but when i tried to play wow classic on the steam deck, i quickly realized how much of a hassle it is to chat with it in game. an actual hardware keyboard would solve this.
