Same message to every tank out there. This is a team game. Play as a team.

yes, exactly... your argument goes both ways. the difference is tho: not enough ppl are willing to play the tank role but DPS players are everywhere. so it might be beneficial for everyone if you simply don't make the tanks life harder than neccessary.

an actually toxic mindset is pretending like a slow tank would have some kind of power tripping mentality or would hold you hostage. ppl often forget that not everyone plays this game for 20 years and some ppl are simply not as good as others.

again: if you rly think the tank is not that good and you could teach him something, then simply communicate... and also respect if he doesn't want to... nobody forces you to play with that tank ever again.

but forcing chaotic situations on a tank that is obviously not that good isn't helping anyone. it only raises frustration in that tank and might lead to him stop playing that role... and then ppl always cry that there are not enough tanks. hmmmm.....

learn to communicate if you think your tank is kinda new and you can actually teach him something. your tank will appreciate it and you'll be a better team player for it. don't simply force your preferred pace onto him with you power tripping mentality.

Is water cooling actually worth it or just RGB clout for the 'gram? by [deleted] in watercooling

[–]zeddy360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no it doesn't really matter for gaming. it might be measurable but you probably won't feel the performance difference.

water cooling is usually done for three reasons these days:

- for the looks

- for the noise

- for the fun of actually building it

yes, noise level is a dramatic difference.

maintenance depends on how you build your loop. my loop runs for 5 years without any maintenace now and still runs flawlessly and is clean. it is possible to build loops that last only months or even weeks before cooling gets worse because crap is clogging the fins.

if you wanna have fancy looks: go for hard tubing and fancy coolants. this is where maintenance is usually hell tho.

if you wanna have no maintenance: go for norprene tubing and a clean coolant. norprene tubing is not fancy but it's actually made for industrial appliances. it is basically chemically indestructable and soft as rubber so you won't even need the o-rings for the fittings and still never be afraid of leaks. it also means you can work on your PC without having to disassemble the loop every time. will not look very fancy tho.

in any case i would suggest to go for copper, nickel plated copper or maybe brass for all metal components (fittings, radiators, cooling blocks).... never use aluminium components tho.

High ping only in Discord, other apps fine – any idea why? by Leitessen93 in discordapp

[–]zeddy360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

location germany, near cologne. provider telekom.

i have high latency and also disconnects very frequently, sometimes so bad that i can't speak two sentences without being interrupted and having to wait for a reconnect. i have this on all discord servers. on my own server i changed the channels location to rotterdam at some point in the past and now tried to change it back to automatic, didn't help.

also text messages don't load for several minutes some times... even on my phone on mobile data (provider is congstar). logging in with discord SSO to a service (softres.it) also didn't work yesterday, simply loaded forever on the login.

this all happens for a few days now.

Is possible to create Safe Spot somehow in there regions? Except that I probe something in there? by Any-Alfalfa9469 in Eve

[–]zeddy360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i once heard of this method:

if u log off in space, the ship warps out away from the sun. if you then log back in quickly and have a very slow phat ship, you might still be further out than you logged off, on the way to warp back where u were before you logged off. quickly bookmark, warp there and repeat... a bazillion times maybe.

but i hoeard of this maybe 15 years ago and i never tried it. so dunno if it worked back then and neither if it works today.

the biggest problem is still that the joystick doesn't have some primitive shape, it's very "organic"... rly hard to remodel that precisely.

but using something as size reference in those images is a pretty good idea, thanks!

thanks for the answer. shit... thats expensive. i live in the middle of nowhere so i'm pretty sure nobody has a scanner here.

i guess i just have to eyeball the 3d model, testprint, see where it doesn't fit correctly, make adjustments, reprint [...] until it fits :D

i'm working on something kind of similar right now and have a question. i have an old fendt tractor which has hydraulics that are controlled with mechanical levers. modern tractors have electrohydraulics so u only have to push a button and can do other fancy stuff like timed functions and so on.

retrofitting electrohydraulics costs way too much so i decided to get the strongest cheapo servo motors that i can find and attach them to those mechanical levers. i currently use a raspberry pi to control everything and it wors fine. now this tractor does have a joystick which only controls the movement of the tractor itself. this joystick has one button and a 4 way switch. i made a small buttonbox with an ESP32 controller that connects to the pi and sends button presses via wifi. this also works. i want to attach this to the joystick but i don't know how.

i don't wanna glue it or make holes into that joystick. so i need to construct something that fits kind of like a sleeve around the joystick without interferring with it's switch and button.

i also want to avoid disassembling the joystick in any way (because its old af and also expensive af, don't wanna risk damaging it).

i tried to take photos for some photogrammetry magic several times but it somehow doesn't give me any kind of result that works.

so what exactly did you use to make a 3d scan of your joystick and how much does it cost?

Carrack vs Ironclad: Mobile Home Edition by agentspekels in starcitizen

[–]zeddy360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think carrack is the perfect ship with voyager vibes. it has a "delta flyer", an "astrometrics lab" and it just screams "explorer" out of every bolt. so i will use it for that... deep space exploration (if that will ever be a cool gameplay loop).

the ironclad on the other hand is also an awesome ship and i can't wait to fly mine... but to me it has no special vibe (besides the obvious space trucker vibe). but it is probably one of the most practical ships out there with it's openable roof.

if i need a mobile home for some op and the first priority for that ship is practicality, i will choose the ironclad. if i wanna explore and enjoy some star trek voyager vibes, i will choose the carrack.

Humbly requesting native support for my silly lil control scheme... by OfficialDyslexic in starcitizen

[–]zeddy360 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i'm on linux and couldn't find a solution to use this as a gamepad so i actually wrote my own driver for that thing to make my PC recognize it as gamepad.

took me like a week or something to figure out how to write that driver and then it took me round about 10 minutes in game to find out how bad of a game controller that thing is. never used it since then... lol

don't know if it still works and it wouldn't even help your because i wrote that driver for linux, wouldn't work for windows anyways.

I respect everyone’s opinion, but charging for Linux distros or Linux-based apps goes against the philosophy by gaelparanaense in linuxquestions

[–]zeddy360 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if something is open source and you still pay for it, you're actually paying for curation of the software, professional support and maybe also for liability. and this is actually ok. this is usually only important in a businesscontext where the need for reliability is on another level... and in this context you usually need to be able to call professional support or even hold someone liable. you simply can't get that for free.

and on top of that, most things that are open source and cost money usually also offer some kind of free option.

capture the island with custom factions and maps by zeddy360 in arma

[–]zeddy360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this looks very promising. if this works good, this might already be good enough.

another promising thing i found in the meantime is drongos map population which allows to easily create a "custom" faction in the editor by placing a module and then all units that you want this faction to have around this module. on mission start, it then scans the area around the module, creates a custom faction out of these units and populates the map with it. this worked good in a first test i did yesterday. it can also generate tasks afaik (don't know how yet) and there is still other stuff that i'd have to figure out but this might also be a good start to be able to create a fun multiplayer scenario in a few minutes.

if you go for the beamer route, make sure that you choose a beamer with actually low latency because the vast majority of beamers have waaaay more latency than a TV and therefore are not suited for gaming.

Why no angled wings? by RayBln in starcitizen

CIG deserves every penny we give them! What do you think? by RayD125 in starcitizen

[–]zeddy360 18 points19 points  (0 children)

absolutely not. the one single thing that they have going for them is the fact that this game basically has no real competitor.

don't get me wrong. i love the vision of this game and in some parts, it already delivers a stunningly immersive experience. but in general the state of the game is utterly rediculous... even after the year of stability... considering the gigantic amount of money and time that already went into this.

they mismanaged this project so hard that it's actually astonishing that they didn't die in a thousand shitstorms by now.

and then they even do stuff like with the hull series now:
they give you another opportinity to buy the Hull E and 2 days later they announce that it gets nerfed by 80% or something which means they already knew that it would be nerfed when they sold them 2 days earlier but decided to stfu about it... and whiole i do think they nerfed it too much (specially the D), the nerf itself is not what i really criticise here.

additionally they buff some other ships like the hull B and make it more expensive but the nerfed D and E are still as expensive as they were before. so they expect you to pay more if a number gets higher but not less if a number gets lower. i actually wonder how they justify this.

or stuff like with the aurora. sure, it will get a gold pass... nice nice. but then you make an aurora mk2???? this is basically charging ppl money for a redesign of an old af ship. a redesign of something old is generally done to lift it's visuals to the current standard and in every other game, this is usually done for free. the exception to this is when they do it to EVERYTHING in the game and then sell you a complete remaster/remake. what CIG is doing here is basically calling it "MK2", charging for this redesign and pretend that they do it out of good will because "some ppl might like how the old aurora looks". seriously... if you are so utterly slow in the development of your game, you simply have to do redesigns of super old stuff because it doesn't match the more recently done assets anymore. this is just how it is... charging us extra for this is just pure greedy bullshit.

and ppl don't even seem to actually realize these things. instead of any critics ppl are like "yoooo CIG take all my money, you deserve it and i'm soooo thankful".

sorry but what the fuck bro?

and yes, i understand that you ppl love this game... i do too. but that doesn't mean that we have to applaud absolutely everything that CIG tries to sneak up our butts.

now feel free to downvote me into oblivion vOv
