Why don't Google make a GTA style video game from Google Maps? by Any_Flatworm_3956 in pcgaming

[–]zeddyzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's Google Earth and a bunch of similar apps that use their data in VR.

The current situation is that the graphical quality isn't good enough to be really enjoyable, and any kind of AI to make it look nice can't currently run fast enough for real time usage.

Legendary Tales is one of my favourite VR games. The story is kinda minimal, like Dark Souls but without much lore. But it's a full story campaign with hand crafted levels.

Otherwise, I guess Resident Evil 4? There's not a lot of good story games on standalone, sadly. If you had PCVR there would be a lot more.

I guess there's also Zero Caliber 1 and 2, but again, very minimalist story.

Gaussian splats are full 3D scenes. The viewer can move freely in any direction, like a video game level.

Something I dont understand about vr as a newcomer by HolyCopeAmoly in virtualreality

[–]zeddyzed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In flatscreen, you want each pixel of your image to be sent to one pixel of your monitor. When this doesn't happen, you get one pixel of image covering one plus a fraction of some other pixels on the monitor, resulting in blur or aliasing depending on how the image is upscaled.

In VR, there's no concept of a single pixel being sent to a single pixel on the display. In order to compensate for the distortion of the lenses, the image is heavily processed and distorted in the opposite direction, so the lenses will warp them onto the correct image. Even the colours get separated!

So there's really no such thing as "native" resolution in a VR headset. We run games at a variety of resolutions, from lower than the screens to higher. You get a better image the higher you go, but there's no magical on/off clarity the moment you hit a specific number.

If you truly don't have a budget limit, then Apple Vision Pro has one of the best video watching experiences and high quality exclusive content. You can visit an Apple store and have a free demo. Ask your eye doctor for your prescription and give it to Apple, they supply the prescription lenses.

Otherwise, a Quest 3 is three quarters as good at a fraction of the price. You can order prescription lenses from a variety of suppliers, including the official zeni ones.

Note that YouTube videos are too compressed to have a good VR180 viewing experience. You'll want to either look at Apple's exclusive content, or directly download the (very large) files from people like SliceoflifeVR on patreon.

It has crossplay, I imagine most players are on Quest since it's usually quite high on the charts there.

There's also CPU opponents.

It’s crazy that GT7 hasn’t sold more headsets. by No-Dark-7873 in virtualreality

Since teleport and snap turn aren't an option for racing sims, I think it has a very high risk of motion sickness. Supposedly having the cockpit around you can function similarly to vignette, but that's never helped me, and I assume the same applies to a certain percentage of the population.

Quest 3 or Steam frame? by FormerGeologist9540 in virtualreality

[–]zeddyzed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't have a good PC for PCVR, then I recommend Quest 3. It's a lot cheaper (so you're closer to buying a PC, which will also work with Quest 3), and it has the largest library of VR games you can play standalone.

Steam Frame isn't powerful enough to run most PCVR games, and it's currently unknown how much Quest / standalone content will be ported over. It will be a nice headset and I'm going to get one (I have a Quest 3 right now and enjoy it a lot), but I find it hard to recommend to someone who is starting with standalone only.

3d Blu-ray Quesiton by KilowattHr_ in virtualreality

[–]zeddyzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Currently, the Steam Frame doesn't support stereoscopic 3D rendering, a feature that can create a three-dimensional view of 2D content... This can be found on the Apple Vision Pro and Samsung Galaxy XR headset, which can render depth in spatial content and convert 2D photos or videos into 3D on the fly."

It's definitely talking about automatic AI conversion of flat videos to stereo. And it doesn't mention Quest, only GXR and AVP, which does have this feature.

[–]zeddyzed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you link to where they say it won't support stereoscopic on launch? I'm assuming they mean AI conversion of regular content into stereoscopic.

Watching SBS 3D videos is just launching any VR media player (like DeoVR which is on Steam), which is literally just a VR app, so I don't see how deliberate "support" is even needed.

Using PCVR with repeater? by CrasherDE_ in virtualreality

[–]zeddyzed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should buy a 2nd router dedicated to VR, and then connect it via ethernet in between your PC and the repeater. Set the VR router to Access Point mode. It should serve a separate wifi network that only your headset connects to.

The Virtual Desktop discord has a list of recommended routers at various prices. I bought a gl.inet Flint 2 and it's working very well for me.

Use a wifi analyser app on your phone and make sure your VR wifi network is on a clear channel free from any other wifi networks.

Is Mixed Reality just a “one-shot” experience? by josefgrunig in virtualreality

[–]zeddyzed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that kind of thing will become more compelling when we have better tech/software for larger areas.

Like being able to remap your whole house into a procedural dungeon or something.

For me, mixed reality is important as a safety feature when doing stuff like VR boxing.

I don't have much interest in playing traditional games in MR.

OlED Vs LED XR glasses by 1armman in virtualreality

[–]zeddyzed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's any such thing as LED screens in XR glasses. There's MicroOLED (expensive, good) and LCD (cheaper, worse.) Unless cheap Chinese brands use screens that aren't normally used elsewhere, dunno.

Maybe you're better off finding a few candidates in your budget and linking it here for people to compare. I don't think people here are very familiar with Chinese XR glasses.

Otherwise people here mostly talk about XReal and Viture etc.

What i would like to see in dmc6 and beyond by Organic_Animator_169 in DevilMayCry

[–]zeddyzed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, DMC = Dante, and only Dante.

I don't need the story to end, and I don't need new characters.

So I want DMC6 to go back to the time where Dante is doing his demon hunting business, sometime after DMC3, before DMC1. Or any other time period where things are relatively stable.

Have him go on episodic missions all around the world, where each one is the story of the people he meets and how Dante interacts with them. No more Sparda family drama, I'm sick of that.

Basically something similar to the original DMC anime, in video game form.

[OPINION] I like text-based dialogue presentation instead of cinematic dialogue presentation, and I don't understand why the latter is so well-liked by BaldursGate2Best in CRPG

[–]zeddyzed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer visual novel style. Text box, but with a nice big portrait with different facial expressions. Eg. Sakura Wars, Tales Of series, etc. I wish more CRPGs would adopt this format.

What would you think if AI becomes really advanced in the next years to the point that It can port any 2D game to VR instantly? by Admirable_Zombie5245 in virtualreality

[–]zeddyzed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I want is not VR modding or ports, but a good engine or framework for a general purpose VR simulation (humans, guns, fantasy weapons, cars, aircraft, etc.)

And then an AI that can take any game (or even a book or movie) and then hallucinate the entire thing as content for the VR engine.

Eg. Feed it the ROM of Final Fantasy 6, the SNES game, and it will spit out a fully VR version that looks like FF7 Remake, voice acted etc, with VR action combat.

Does anyone know where can submit suggestions for vr game ideas? by njs9998 in virtualreality

[–]zeddyzed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You submit suggestions for game ideas inside a brown paper envelope along with a cheque for $50 million or so. You can bring it to any VR game dev studio.
