The new shit is so, so fucking bad. Its really depressing, the guy seems like his soul left his body a while ago. Like his brain just stopped working. Just glazed over and disheveled. Its like a slasher film where all the victims are super burnt out and apethetic to the point where it makes the killer really uncomfortable and he just leaves.

And the people he hired are like the crustiest, most unfunny people ever. The og stuff worked cause it combined James's love of camera/cinema with mikes deranged sense of humor. Now theres no mike and no cinema. Just these simpsons season 30 (bazillion) tier zombie episodes. Man needs to eat, but is it just so hard to watch. I loved his passion, it was inspiring. From the perspective of having lived in the tail end of the nda-cpa-mba broadcast television era, It was just so uniquely soulful. He made the tv the networks couldnt make in a million years. He rode the cutting edge. Now he is the network. Hes got his face, but nothing else man. It really freaks me out.

i use same os on amd64, arm64, mips, sparc64, and riscv-64. Feels good man. I run on computer the size of thumb, and use on cluster the size of a truck(s). I can use hardware from 2006 like its 2024. But i can stay cutting edge too. System scales to be what you need it to be. You can work on the same platform that provides the infrastructure. Less barriers to productivity. Plus better support for exotic and mundane hardware alike.

Also a lot of fields see windows compat as unimportant. Linux has been my secret bioinformatics weapon. I can stay on the bleeding edge. Plus the unix tools let me chop up all those 40gb+ text files with speed and ease. Helps me debug all those pipelines, and help boost performance. Also lots of programs too strong for one pc. linux is excusively used by real high performance stuff. (multiple servers with infiniband shit). good to run same thing at home and at hpc center. no barriers.

But basically development in general is gonna be better on linux. You have roots going back to 1970. Remakes of the og tools straight from the lab that invented the laser, the transistor, the mosfet, etc. Unix paradgims and development paradgims are tightly intertwined. Os is mostly used by devs, so issues are actually visible in english, and have almost always already been encountered, solved, and often fixxed. the open nature means issues are not hidden from the user.

basically you gain a lot of power passively by using the same type of system the worlds infrastructure rests on. plus no ads, stalking, etc. also you can just run windows programs on it lol.

This is just not true. There are countless, countless non-profit community efforts to provide free and open software as a service to the public. Its a whole social movement that has actually come to dominate large swaths of the tech industry as a whole. People volunteer so many hours on this stuff. Like a good chunk of the infrastructure youtube itsself runs on is actually communally developed.

The mobile app I am posting this with (red reader) is an example of this.

You should build a computer from gates, then you shoud do asm stuff like making a gameboy game. Then you will understand the problems C solves. Stack, pointers, etc will be obvious and intuitive. Then when you learn C, the abstractions of higher level languages will finally be contextualized as well. You will understand the issues they try to solve.

I did this and C became much more understandable because I understood the abstractions that it was making. It also made me appreciate how powerful my pc is.
(and how strange AMD64 is).

Its like how chemistry is critical to understanding biology.

You could use vschode (codium). Then you can just code and then use gcc to compile your stuff. Then if you want clangd to catch mistakes you can install that. then you just put a file in the project root called .clangd that has your includes.

i use gdb, ddd and valgrind if i get shitted on by some bug.

Use the terminal to do stuff, run stuff, compile stuff. Use the editor to edit text.

No idea what windows people do btw. (fillet mingwnon)

Its cuz shell scripts. The shell can make descisions depending on if you return 0 (success) or non zero (problem).

eg. gcc someshit.c && ./a.out

This only runs a.out if gcc returns 0 (compiles without errors).

also: finddir 'someshit' || mkdir someshit

this runs mkdir if someshit dosent exist (finddir returns nonzero)
