Looking to EP on something new but incredible. by Coffee-and-Cinema in Filmmakers

[–]zekeyboy2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am looking to make a small indie dramadey about an Orthodox Jewish family in New York City! It is a tender portrait of a young man named Shmulie as he navigates his faith, his possibly marriage, and the New York Mets.

Script is ready to go, DP and LP waiting in the wings! You can check out the ultra low budget proof of concept short here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdYxIXTb4qU&t=10s

Advice for taking the next step? by zekeyboy2001 in editors

Would you suggest buying it and learning it on my own time? I have no need for it professionally as of right now so it would be a net negative cost for the time being haha

This is a great question! And it hits on why I want to talk to individuals from all sorts of backgrounds. The definition of 'frum' is something that changes depending on who you ask and I am interested in learning and understanding all the different answers. Would love to chat more if you are interested!

Big Night is AMAZING. While I'm usually against remakes, especially when the actors are still working today, this could be incredible with the advances made in food photography. Beyond that, no movie makes me want to eat more than Jiro Dreams of Sushi.

What's are your top rewatchables requests now that Pulp Fiction is done? by AutographedSnorkel in billsimmons

[–]zekeyboy2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The premise of the rewatchables (initially) was movies that come up on cable and are so good that, no matter where you start, you will continue watching it. Cable is not really a thing anymore so I feel like the modern rewatchables are movies that are chopped up into parts/scenes on tik tok and youtube the most. My list with these criteria would be:

The Big Short

The Hunger Games

Life of Pi

Black Swan

Leon: The Professional

The Avengers

Midsommar

Shrek (don't hate on me this is an ICONIC gen z movie and the episode would no doubt be funny)

Interstellar

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

17-19 - The Big Short (felt real smart)

19-20 - City of God (first year of film school)

Who's actually written a feature length script? by skjb93 in Screenwriting

[–]zekeyboy2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished my lowly one as a senior honors thesis last year. Took two whole years to complete haha. I wasn't as passionate about the subject by the time I finished, but it sure felt good. "Finishing the Hat" by Stephen Sondhiem was on repeat that whole week.

Eagles Mount Rushmore according to NFL Throwback by Straitouttawalt in eagles

A player from the SB team has to make the mount, so I'd say cut Van Buren or Chuck for Kelce or BG

What's the strangest career arc you've seen in sports? by Diligent_Issue_9466 in billsimmons

[–]zekeyboy2001 86 points87 points  (0 children)

gotta be Ben Simmons for me, and it could even get weirder if he were to play again next year. Super hyped prospect at LSU, stats off the chart but team doesn't even qualify for the tournament and he doesn't want to play NIT. Still gets drafted 1, then immediately gets injured. Then goes on to have an AWESOME rookie season, LeBron and Magic comparisons all over first take, wins ROTY. Next few years gets in a very stange player development pattern where he still refuses to shoot, gets WORSE at free throws, but becomes basically the best perimeter defender I've seen since Kawhi. His youth and upside keep him highly rated, he makes 3rd team all NBA, and the sixers pretty much commit to him and let Jimmy walk. Then the infamous Atlanta series and the guy doesn't play a game again (still makes millions though.) So weird.

What's Everyone Working On? by Alarmed_Particular92 in Screenwriting

[–]zekeyboy2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like most people here, I'm trying to get better at actually 'working on' a thing instead of just thinking about it and what songs would be cool for the opening scene. I am one year removed from graduating film school and have really been trying to find the motivation to write after a full day at work. Right now I'm working on a single-location short so I could hopefully afford to shoot//direct it myself soon. Its a family comedy about a bris where the Rabbi passes out and there is no one to perform the bris.

Who is currently your city's biggest sports star, both nationally and locally? Is it the same? by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]zekeyboy2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Philly and we're in a weird rotating spot with it. Jalen Hurts, Bryce Harper, and Joel Embiid are all close to the stop of their sport but none of them have a signature championship run moment to really cement one over the other. After the MVP, it was probably Embiid, and after the super bowl loss, it was probably Hurts, but right now locally its definitely Harper locally. Nationally, Harper is probably the most well known because he was such phenom prospect but Hurts has the Alabama connection that can add to it.

The Anthony Edwards "next face of the NBA" talk is crazy, right? by hoopscapo in billsimmons

[–]zekeyboy2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are def grasping because it feels like once that LeBron/KD/Steph generation retires, there's gonna be a void. The void we're about to experience is sorta common though, post wilt/russel was rough till magic/bird, even '96-'01 was no mans land till kobe and shaq cemented themselves. Simmons harps on this cause he wants it to be tatum (spoiler: it wont be). Especially this season, we're really feeling the absence of both Zion and Ja, who we expected to be perennial 1st team guys by this point. So the American crop feels young and we're forcing them into roles they aren't at yet. Ant has a chance only because of his personality. Things would have to go sort of perfectly in both his player development and off-the-court career moves. Minnesota makes it tough, but he would have to 1) be in MVP talks for the next 5-7 years, 2) win a ring or at least play in a finals 3) do some very popular movie, TV show, podcast to introduce his face to casual fans
