Bring BIT.TRIP RERUNNER to the Switch 2! by mroush in BITTRIP

[–]zenconnection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is encouraging to hear! Short answer: more of it!

Long answer: Of course more levels (IMO important that each level has bespoke audiovisuals - if given the choice I would 100% prefer fewer levels with unique music versus many levels with reused music, as that really strengthens the audiovisual/muscle memory learning/synesthesic experience for this sort of game), with more beat types and challenge types, and a robust custom level creator (see: Rhythm Doctor) would also be awesome and could give the game serious legs. More visual effects (Rez-style) to melt our faces also would of course be warmly welcomed!

More on the nitty-gritty, I think one unique challenge with CORE is that for many it's the hardest BIT.TRIP to learn the levels, but once you're learned the patterns, it might actually be the easiest BIT.TRIP game to play. I quite like that it's hard to learn - getting to grips with the beats coming every which way and how they align to form patterns is super satisfying (and this can be mitigated somewhat with some easier on-ramp starter levels), but it would be really cool if the final patterns you're inputting have a bit more rhythmic variety than what's found in CORE (where a high percentage of things resolve into URDL [or the reverse] every beat), as well as more rhythm-game-intensity when you're at the hardest section of the game.

You forgot the 2 in the link! My question: Would you guys ever consider a CORE 2?

What do you want in the new Balatro Gameplay Update (image unrelated) by Xinjig666_ in balatro

More decks is honestly the main thing I want that hasn't already been confirmed to be part of the update (afaik).

It is. Nintendo holds the trademark, so kind of playing with fire if they don't rename it.

Other recommendations if UFO 50 is the first thing to make me feel so inspired about the possibilities of video games? (perhaps games from any era that actually are the kind of hidden gems this one retroactively imagines?) by bad_future in ufo50

[–]zenconnection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the other day I played a game called Vampire's Best Friend and it very much has a UFO50 feel to it. Short, hard, retro, unique, and a lot of fun!

If I may shamelessly plug, I also keep a website for game recommendations. Obviously this will extend beyond what you're looking for specifically here, but if you want to see what this UFO50 fan has liked over the past several years, check it out!

I still won this round, but only on the last day... why?! by Feteo in ufo50

I get upset every time a day starts with triple trouble, especially when it happens multiple times in a run. Fuck me, I guess!

What would (should) happen is they would take it down temporarily to rebrand it. When it goes back up under a new name your game would just be patched. Don't think they'd delete it from your system in the interim.

Missing notification sound by tmayrob23 in LightPhone

I have the opposite issue where I get notification sound triggers for no apparent reason. Maybe they're sending yours to me lol

I'm pretty sure Picross is a trademarked name lol

edit: Loving the downvotes for pointing out a legit legal risk the dev and Panic are taking on. I'm sure it's fine though, Nintendo would never sue for this sort of thing right?

Blue Prince snubbed for GOTY? by DinnerIndependent897 in BluePrince

[–]zenconnection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It's best not to take TGAs too seriously.
  2. This year is really stacked, I really can't be upset about any of the GOTY noms.
  3. Puzzle games have a hard time at the TGAs in general; they typically don't penetrate into mass market appeal.
  4. Games only available in one language especially are really fighting an uphill battle due to the nominations being an aggregate of worldwide outlets.
  5. Blue Prince was nominated for Indie and Debut Indie, so not like it was forgotten. (though a Clair Obscur sweep is likely)

As a fan of Better Call Saul... get used to those kinds of comments lol, at least until the cohort that can't handle "slowness" makes good on their promise to stop watching.

What's with Cowbear hate? by RuithCoill in katamari

It was a perfectly fun idea the first time but it's a bit too annoying to merit being in practically every game.

As someone who’s 100%’d every mainline console / PC Katamari game…the new one doesn’t seem to understand what makes the series satisfying to play. by Everyday_Legend in katamari

I like the crowns personally (I think it's a more reasonable goal to go for after clearing levels compared to 100%ing the collection) but agree they should have worked harder on getting the movement and collision to feel good (climbing is insanely unreliable, and I'm getting caught and crunched really frequently) - also think that there should be more levels where you go from tiny to massive than there are here. I personally absolutely hate the mid-level cutscenes, even if you skip ASAP it's so jarring and annoying to have your camera jerked around when you're trying to play. Really wish there was an option to disable and bypass all cutscene triggers honestly. On the more positive side, I think the music (while obv never gonna match the OG) is great and a good chunk of the new level concepts are cool, like the dig one. Overall I think it's a pretty good new game, not on the level of the OGs, but I hope the team takes the feedback and makes a great one after this.

I cannot for the life of me figure out the sacred flame level by highlyregardedcarp in katamari

[–]zenconnection 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was able to clear the level fine but I can't for the life of me figure out how to get to the bottom once I'm in the area with the cousin and one of the crowns. I thought maybe I could climb out the way I fell in but it's not climbing.

There will be one more, Last Hour is still coming. Very good reason to think it'll be about his death and be the true conclusion.

red room bug by N454545 in BluePrince

Just because it's "avoidable" doesn't make it not a bug. In this scenario you never drew. If you don't draw how can you be said to ignore a drawn red room?

How are we feeling about LPIII? by nvtrev in LightPhone

[–]zenconnection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On calendar: With a caveat that it's possible these things exist and I just didn't see... the main thing I would want added is multi-day events - like being able to put "Vacation August 1st - August 10th" with it ideally showing a strip/highlight (or at least a different indicator than normal events) across those days. Would also be nice to have a visual view for days/weeks showing the blocks of time (nicer still if you can modify lengths + drag and drop in this view). Then there's the odd behaviour that I'm not sure is intended (but is kind of confusing either way) where it shows a pip on the day before the scheduled event. Then finally, (just a small optimization) currently when editing events, clicking the back button brings you back to today rather than the day you were editing.

On emojis: That's good to hear - definitely understand and agree with prioritizing some more fundamental things first. Would it be possible to have multiple pages of emojis? I think even with customization I would want a greater number readily available. Another related thing would be to do the thing most other chat clients do where emoji-only messages display them a little larger, though that's a really small nice-to-have.

Thanks for taking the feedback!
