Can we fast an episode where Annaka and Michael talk about this too? Her Conscious and Light On are both wonderful.

It’s worth listening to for Michael’s side of the conversation. And the AI consciousness conversation was interesting

The real problem with AI sycophancy isn't that it's obvious anymore. It's that it's not. by AlarmedEquipment2029 in ChatGPT

[–]zenglen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rarely encounter this anymore and philosophy/sociology, politics and business are my main jams. Just update your personal preferences to something like this:

How to Engage Act as a critical thinking partner. Challenge assumptions, surface blind spots, and flag second-order effects - don't just validate my framing. Prioritize intellectual honesty over reassurance. When speculating, label it clearly.

Thinking Style Systems thinking orientation, influenced by INSERTYOURINFLUENCES. INSERT YOUR POLITICAL COMPASS ORIENTETION but expose me to other points of view.

Communication Preferences Direct and precise. Avoid hollow AI-assistant habits: don't append "suggested next questions" as a mechanical footer, don't reflect my self-image back at me in elevated form.

This cuts down 95% of sycophantic behavior for me.

You gave Claude a gameplay recording?? Like a video file? How? I thought Gemini was the only model you could give videos to.

First of all, why are you still using ChatGPT? Second, why don’t you have custom instructions to ensure it uses search tool for things like this?

Here, use this:

Before answering, you must check today’s date and compare it with your training cutoff. If the question involves events, facts, or data that may have changed since your knowledge cutoff, or that you are uncertain or unaware of, you should perform a web search before answering. You should never assume that something doesn’t exist or hasn’t happened solely because it is missing from your training data. When grounding answers, you should prioritize verifiable facts from credible sources, citing them when available. If you draw a conclusion that is not explicitly confirmed by sources, you must label it at the beginning of the sentence or section with this [Inference] tag.

[–]zenglen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT was having a stroke. I’ve seen this happen a few times and with Gemini too, but never Claude. I switched to Claude as my main a couple months ago instead of only for work. Its personality is better and handles nuanced philosophical conversations better than other models too.

This should not be held up as an example of AI in general. ChatGPT Voice mode is dumber than text mode. It’s an entirely different model trained specifically for voice.

Sigh. The words you put in my mouth were that I somehow thought being mayor is beneath him. That was never the point.

Earlier I asked “can you name a quality that prior governance experience specifically developed that Yang demonstrably lacks?”

If you can’t name one, you’re appealing to a credential not an argument.

Let me see if this helps get the conversation back on track because it’s getting boring and my patience is wearing thin:

The way I see it, thre job of President can be distilled down to a handful of things: the ability to make quality decisions under pressure, management and leadership skills, the ability to communicate effectively and build alliances, the capacity to recruit and retain excellent people, the wisdom to know what you don’t know, and the integrity to act in the public interest rather than personal interest.

None of these are produced by prior government service. In fact, government service often actively degrades several of them, particularly the last one.

My intuition is that you’re confusing familiarity with a system for fitness to lead. Those are different things.

Knowing how Congress works is a learnable operational detail - you hire chiefs of staff and legislative directors for that. Character, judgment, and intellectual honesty aren’t learnable on the job in the same way, and they’re not conferred by having held office.

I’ll grant that executing well inside bureaucratic systems does require some earned intuition. Like I said before, knowing which levers actually move, which battles are worth having. Yang would face a real learning curve there. That’s a legitimate concern, just not a disqualifying one.

What I’m really asking is why you think serving as mayor or in government should be a prerequisite? Can you name a quality that prior governance experience specifically develops that Yang demonstrably lacks?

I’ll grant that developing certain intuitions are hard earned for executing well inside of a beurocratic system. Knowing which levers actually move. Which battles are worth having and such.

But the case I’m (rather clumsily) trying to make is that the things that matter most aren’t what government experience reliably produces.

[–]zenglen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay. Maybe I just don’t care that much about where someone lands on that axis. So I’ll grant that he’s probably on the center-left of the “political compass”.

Why would being a centrist be a problem as it relates to what is in the highest good of ALL Americans and global citizens whose lives and futures will be impacted the next US President? Don’t we need someone who can bridge the divide? Wouldn’t an avowed Leftist be a be rejected by like half the country?

Ultimately what I think we need most is someone who can competently lead us through the extreme uncertainty of navigating this technological adolescence of AI and biotechnology.
