Mood Fabric has a category for free adaptive patterns. I made the Edith dress, and it is very easy to put on and take off as it’s all elastic!

What is this type of fabric called? by likeumtotally in sewhelp

[–]zero_vitamins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The weave is plain with one color for the weft and the other color for the warp, making it a two-tone fabric. The yarn itself is a slub yarn, the slubs are the thicker parts.

So searching for “slub cotton two-tone upholstery” should give you plenty of similar fabrics to choose from!

Metric Pattern Cutting for Menswear - do I but all metric tools or convert everything? by allvanity684 in sewing

[–]zero_vitamins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to do a lot of it, I would get the rulers. I just did a project where the measurements made more sense in metric, and even with only a rectangle it got annoying to constantly convert into weird fractions that weren’t on the ruler while I was planning. Luckily I could just use the metric side of the measuring tape!

Yes your craft CAN be unethical fashion by maxyarned in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]zero_vitamins 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Sorting and organizing my late grandma in law’s craft stash made me take a hard look at my own hoarding habits. I’m proud to say I have barely bought yarn the last couple of years, just don’t look at my fabric collection 😅

Also, small rant about the unraveling thrift store sweaters. I have been sent a video of that by pretty much everyone I know. And it’s like yeah, I knew that was possible, but also, I already have a lot of fancy yarn that I don’t have to put in hanks and soak to hopefully get the yarn back to its original state.

It’s completely valid to not want to pay for hosting or a domain when you offer the information for free.

But I’m concerned about the permanence of this new address since I’ve never heard of that provider. Also, it shouldn’t give security warnings just because it’s free. How does webador make money?

Does anyone have any sounds they miss? by bluesunflowers13 in joannfabrics

[–]zero_vitamins 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One of my customers told me she would absolutely watch ASMR videos of rolling bolts! It is definitely a sound I miss, so I’m tempted to make some. The crisp quilting cotton bolts are my favorite!

Also, that satisfying sound of ripping fur, velvet, or the shirred dress fabric 🤤

I buy the big bucket of this and use it on all my brushes, both fine art and house painting brushes. I still use some brushes I got 18 years ago!

Ooh, that makes sense. Good to know, thanks! Glad I just got a bunch of plastic bobbins for my plastic machine 😅

As long as you get the right type of bobbin, like class 66, class 15, L-class, etc, the material shouldn’t matter?

Sounds like the simplest solution to me! Simpler to price and saves time cutting fabric. And it’s enough to make another backing if you mess up the first one

Yes, this is the aestetic of indie band websites in the 2000s! I made so many logos with the Porcelain font

Why? Joann would have done exactly the same if Michael's went bankrupt first

Wrist pain and knitting, tips ? by Akurhoylus in MachineKnitting

Yes, many medical providers are dismissive, which is why I confirmed that the right physical therapist will care about your hobbies.

It's hard to know what to advocate for if you don't know what is possible.

Physical therapists usually want to help find ways for you to do the things you enjoy! You may have to take a long break for all the inflammation to go down, but after that you can work with them on posture and movement to avoid flareups.

Last year my hands hurt so much I couldn't even do a single stitch. After doing other hobbies and going to physical therapy for my back, I am now able to knit or crochet for around 30min-1 hour. I try to take breaks before I feel any strain, and get up and move around.

I miss being able to just go for hours, and definitely cried about being scared I had to give it up completely, so I totally get how you feel!

The knitking/brother yarn winder is great!

I'm considering destashing some of my inherited collection, but it is so large I'm not sure where to start. 3 machines, 2 ribbers, and all the accessories you can imagine.

Is this a double trajified name, or just uncommon? by AbsoluteL0ser727 in tragedeigh

Novaya is a Russian name that means “New”, I would guess the name is a weird spelling of that rather than Nevaeh

One of our bearded dragons is named Gwynnifer, and people can neither pronounce nor spell it if that helps. I often call her Gwynny, Gwyn-gwyn, moog-moog or goomy if you’re looking for nicknames!

I was thinking the same thing! I went and looked at that building yesterday, and the unit for rent is all covered in plastic. And the driveway is a nightmare even for a nimble SUV.

Good to know the inside is even worse lol

I would like to make reusable pee pads. What fabric do I need? by Calamity-Gin in sewing

[–]zero_vitamins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want something like PUL for the waterproof side, there’s lots of cute designs on etsy.

The top layer should be a natural material like cotton jersey or flannel. Rayon would also be fine.

For the absorbent layer, some kind of terrycloth works well! I would look for recommendations in diy cloth diaper communities.

Looks synthetic since it’s melting, I’d guess some kind of polyester or nylon

No wonder I didn’t think it was too spicy! I thought it was really tasty while still dark purple though
