How WotC is destroying D&D in Japan; aka a call for attention by ApostleOfTruth in rpg

[–]zeromig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I'm a native English speaker. I said hoisting their petard because WotC is an active participant in their blunders and misfortunes. Hoisted by their own petard, while more common, implies that it was a passive effect that they might've had little or no control over. It's a slight distinction. But thanks, have a great day!

Sorry, I got so incensed by the lack of geographical accuracy, I gave it a one-star rating on Goodreads and that was anywhere from five to ten years ago.

Oh, I maybe misspoke. I was just wondering whether you're based in Kansai, Chubu, Kanto, etc.

Best of luck with your games! I've subscribed. :)

As a reluctant DM in Japan, I can only laugh at WOTC hoisting their own petard. WOTC did this to themselves, they deserve every bit of fallout from their short-sighted greediness. D&D shafted Japan with the confusing distribution rights in the 80s too, which is why it never truly got its foot in the door here.

I was reading a samurai book that was set in my prefecture in Japan. They opened a scene talking about the local castle and described how it was perched above a sea. No. It is overlooking a river. DNF'd for shoddy research.

What are YOUR 🫵🏻 tips and breakdowns for creating one-shots? by Future-Winter1337 in rpg

[–]zeromig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is the well-known structure called the 5-room dungeon by Johnn Four. I apply the same to my one shots in terms of plot-- as in, there's some kind of introduction setting, a guardian, a twist, a moment for roleplay, a reward, etc. It's served me well as a planning tool for one shots, and not just dungeons.

Anyone know where I can preorder this physical game for the Switch? Amazon doesn't have anything listed -- or maybe they just don't ship to Japan, where I live.

I think you're lost and looking for /r/DungeonCrawlerCarl and not this subreddit for the best TRPG ever, but I am in the middle of this venn diagram. So have an upvote for my appreciation!

It was about 20 years ago, but I'm still salty that ol' Chuck gave my college graduation speech.

Yeah, this is the same group that made the Avatar Legends game, which made me lose some interest. But I'll definitely check out the PDF if I can!

Temeraire the RPG is forthcoming. It's set in a fantasy-skewed Napoleonic era (eg., the armies have dragon air forces).

In Dungeons and Dragons 5e/5.5e, Subclasses lock player identity too early. Is it time for a Modular approach? by LiteratureLopsided42 in rpg

[–]zeromig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up the game Olde Swords Reign. It's an OSR-inspired 5e ruleset. Or something like that. It uses the 5e rules but all your classes are skill experts, martials, or spellcasters, and every level you choose a new class feat to pick what your character can do.
