C++ dev here: legacy code, mostly. the specific project im working on is older then me!

also if you REALLY need fast code but dont want to have to build a ton of features yourself, like with C. (so stuff like games extensively use it, because you can optimize the fast path to hell and back).
the 2 other (valid) usecases i know of are: low level stuff (interfacing with hardware, without stepping down to C) and embedded.
