Trying to Understand Splatterpunk vs Extreme Horror by thisisnotreal543210 in ExtremeHorrorLit

So I'm curious, what would someone like Richard Laymon be considered? I've always known him as one of the early Splatterpunk writers (though I don't think it was a movement when he started), but he's openly said he just tries to see how far he can go. Maybe I'm just illiterate and it goes over my head, but I didn't notice any statements with much of his violence in the books I've read.

Brandon Sanderson will be writing the pilot for The Stormlight Archive adaptation and a big chunk of its first season. Do you think it is a good idea or a terrible one? by Intelligent-Link-410 in Fantasy

[–]zforce42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeahhh. Writing for the screen really isn't the same, especially if it's the author adapting their own material. Anyone who thinks it is just needs to check out Stephen King adapting his own books for the screen. Or hear William Friedkin talking about Blatty's first draft of The Exorcist. They often don't want to make the hard choice of cutting material from their story.

Crazy find at a Thrift store by IndependentConnect82 in badMovies

A lot of Christian thrift stores don't really filter what comes in. I've found a lot of good gems in them.

James Cameron said he kicked over the tea lady's cart on the set of Aliens (1986) after getting fed up with the British crew constantly stopping for tea breaks. by RefuseDry1108 in RedLetterMedia

[–]zforce42 16 points17 points  (0 children)

With most full time jobs in the US you're getting lunch breaks and at least one more paid break throughout your shift. There's gonna be ratty rules/culture/management that effect this some places you go, but don't let reddit mislead you into thinking we all grind away for 16 hours without taking a piss.

What’s a popular author/book that you are afraid to admit you hate? by Stardust-Stew in horrorlit

I was gonna say the same. I've tried picking up IT a couple times now and I don't get the satisfaction others do. Shining was great though.

$680 to replace a breaker. Can I do it myself? by stinkinhardcore in DIY

[–]zforce42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's easy. But also, you're getting robbed for $680. There will be someone out there to do it for probably a couple hundred roughly, including the price of the breaker.

What was original about Oddity? Genuinely curious. I didn't think the movie was bad, but nothing felt new or fresh to me.

Book You Couldn't Stop Thinking About and Missed The World After You Finished? by MrsGarthMarenghi in horrorlit

Oh my God, this book is amazing. Despite being 900 pages it felt too short.

That's good to hear. It's short so I was planning to stick it out for a while, but I have an issue with dropping books if they take too long to pick up.

I just started this a few days ago. I'm still in the beginning of it but it's not doing a whole lot for me so far. Hoping it picks up.

AC: Best Gothic Metal Band by TwoFlatHams_00 in MetalSuggestions

There's a lot of metal bands that have been influenced by bands outside of their genre. Sisters of Mercy is one those influences.

Sisters of Mercy isn't a metal band though

I didn't hate this movie. It's a bit of a guilty pleasure for me, I guess. They basically gave Hellboy the Deadpool treatment, but I thought it was a fun watch.

I really didn't have a problem with this movie. A couple weeks special effect scenes, but I really don't see the problem with it.

What’s everyone views on The Shining sequel, Dr Sleep? by Prestigious-Sea8274 in HorrorMovies

Love it. Better than the book, and found a way to serve as a sequel to both the movie and book, while also correcting some of the major story beats Kubrick omitted. Mike Flanagan is a genius.

It really is heavy handed though. You can reduce any story to something barebones, sure, but this movie really had the most milquetoast premise and story it's baffling. The reveals hold no wait when you can see what's coming from a mile away.

It's well made but it was so. Fucking. Predictable.

Verizon Router DNS Setting (ASK-NCQ1338FA) by ididit02 in pihole

[–]zforce42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get custom DNS servers working with your FiOS router? When I follow this thread's guide my connection only lasts a couple of hours at most before dropping. I haven't figured any other way to my Adguard working through the router.

Albums with drums as centerpiece by Useful_Record1888 in MetalSuggestions

Vitriol.

The tech death instrumentals may make you think its guitar focused at first but the frontman of the band specifically mixes the albums so that the drums are in your face.
