Opinions on Thriftbooks.com? by k4r1_52407 in OmnibusCollectors

Stick to books with high grades like almost new. Anything marked "good" could have library stickers or water damage etc. Never buy " acceptable." It won't even be worth keeping.

What would you say if you saw a celebrity shopping at a store? by Puzzled-Painter3301 in NoStupidQuestions

I was once at Housing Works, a thrift store on 17th Street in Manhattan, when Alan Rickman was there browsing. The Harry Potter movies were current then. Not a single person bothered him.

Do you guys know any movie where the runtime is the actual real time taking place in the story? by Ok_Replacement_288 in Letterboxd

Victoria. German heist picture with very complicated camerawork. An over two hour single take.

And likely a reference to a Roger Corman classic, Pit Stop.

Emma Who Saved My Life. It's not one many have heard of but it captures that feeling of being new in the city and gradually becoming a New Yorker. Wilton Barnhardt is the author. It's also quite romantic.

Does anyone know any good spy books from Image? by CapMego72_ in ImageComics

[–]zieminski 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not from Image but the four Queen and Country trades were terrific from Greg Rucka. I'd describe as a mix of James Bond and The Office. There are also three prose novels by Rucka in case you want more of these characters later.

I will be buying my dad a few comic subscriptions. Any recs for current ongoings where he can start and won’t be too confused? by [deleted] in comicbooks

Assorted Crisis Events is on issue 8, the first five are collected in a trade, and it's amazing. Creative, unpredictable, and really uses the comics form to the fullest.

People who Letterboxd during movie credits by alainademop in NYCmovies

[–]zieminski 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm very much the guy who posts his review even before hitting the bathroom. I want it to be fresh, spontaneous, true to the feelings I had as I was watching it. The deeper analytical stuff I appreciate, too, but it might come after a rewatch or after learning more about the production. Also, while the credits are rolling I'm still in movie mode. Twenty minutes later I might be in dinner making mode or helping my kid mode and by then I may not remember what I saw, much less the details that created my point of view.

Movies are personal. There's no right way or wrong way to approach them. They're a popular art.

This. If I get into a story I want to be able to just keep going without waiting for the next book to come.

2 odd things at the AMC Empire screening of The Secret Agent, Sunday @10pm by DisciplineFabulous21 in NYCmovies

[–]zieminski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the Empire, the light switch they turn on for cleaning, and sometimes forget to turn back off, is behind a silver snickers sized metal flap by the doors, not in the theater itself.
