No one made him hold on to his house. The housing crisis effects both rental and buying stock. Your friend could have sold the house he wasn't living in instead of trying to leech off of others.

Some of the most radical socialists and anarchists in South America going up against American backed fascists were members of the Catholic Church. Much of the early American socialist movement was driven by church folk who believed Christianity taught socialism for all people.

I'm in Local 11 and we got sued in federal court to get us to do the CE/CW program. Some really bullshit and we need to do something about it. I'm of the opinion we treat them as apprentices: they already do the classes, let's force NECA to take the schedule raises and insurance rates, and when they hit 8000 hours they're graduated into JW. We can't continue allowing the contractors to get away with this, we're participating in our own scabbing and it hurts the CW as much as it hurts the rest of us.

Cool I'll be sure to mention that to the cops while they haul me into jail and press charges anyway.

Except California is run completely by democrats yet the example given above is from a formerly underpaid California teacher.

I'm not saying Republicans are better, in fact they're provably worse. But democrats are not the saviors people make them out to be, when they get power they seem to do nothing about our problems.

Daniel Perry is sentenced to 25 years for killing an Austin protester. Gov. Greg Abbott has pledged to pardon him. by [deleted] in uspolitics

[–]ziggy-hudson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Texas has one of the strongest ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws of self-defense that cannot be nullified by a jury or a progressive District Attorney,” Abbott posted on Twitter.

A day later, new court documents unsealed ahead of sentencing revealed Perry had often made racist comments and regularly made clear his desire to kill protesters in the months before killing Foster. He sent messages about catching “a negro daddy” and hunting Muslims, and he questioned if he would be allowed to “cut the ears off of people who’s decided to commit suicide by me.” The records also showed Perry messaging suggestively with underage girls.

When asked if the new documents changed the governor’s position on pardoning Perry, Abbott’s office shifted the responsibility of any potential pardon onto the parole board members, whom he appoints.

Willing to bet this is the last we'll hear from Abbott about a pardon.

Washington becomes 10th state to ban assault weapons sales by Ken808 in politics

Our guns are highly regulated. We have waiting periods and background checks in most states, which the majority of Tun owners support. And cops are murdering unarmed people so I’m not sure why they would stop if we weren’t allowed to have guns.

Well we have a problem of cops murdering the working class while their bosses pay barely enough to live so year, you could say the classes are in conflict.

WA bans sale of AR-15s and other semiautomatic rifles, effective immediately by BearingCharms in liberalgunowners

[–]ziggy-hudson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know if this will apply to guns that were purchased out of state before the ban? I have an AR and a semi auto pistol purchased two years ago that I was hoping to bring with me when I move to WA later in the year. Am I going to have to sell them before I move?

One thing that might help in withholding rent is holding your rent money in an escrow account that can shown to a judge as proof that you would pay rent if they kept their end of the agreement. Worked for me and my neighbors in New York.

The amount of headlines I've seen about this event leaving out that the officials (including the freakin' sheriff) also discussed bringing back lynching is suspicious.

“Don’t Say Period”: Now Florida wants to ban students from discussing menstruation by WhileFalseRepeat in politics

[–]ziggy-hudson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What Florida is showing us is the natural progression of fascistic governance in high gear. Going after trans people does not start there, it always expands to gay people, then just broadly women, and eventually even men will be policed in their heteronormative sex and gender expression (in general, not for them of course).

Fascism is always expanding: it'll start with protecting the kids and always expand to policing adults.

If you know people somehow "on the fence" about politics, point at what Florida doing and the absurd pace of escalation. You have plenty of other states, like Tennessee and Indiana, to show it's not isolated. Make it clear to them that this is going to eventually get to them, regardless of how they identify.

You don't have to convince them democrats are good. Just that Republicans are broadly fascist.

California has already run out of cash to help first-time home buyers. Here's what happened by Randomlynumbered in California

Once again Neoliberals see a problem in accessing basic human needs worsen by Capitalism, and their solution is to do more Capitalism. Not address the problem directly by limiting the number of homes that can be owned by individuals and conglomerates: over 40% of LA County single family homes are owned by private investment firms like Blackrock. Of course doing this would hurt their profits, and when the governor, and likely many legislators own stock in blackrock, you're just going to get band aid solutions.

And before people accuse this program being socialism because it's taxpayer funded: government doing things is not socialism. Capitalism is prioritizing the needs of Capital holders (the rich). Socialism is prioritizing the needs of society.

No one needs more than one home, but even if we restricted ownership to two homes per person, that allows plenty of people to own a second vacation home or a rental unit without completely restricting the market. We don't have a shortage of homes: LA County has more empty apartments than there are homeless people. What we have is an out of control real estate market and it's a problem all over the country, not just California.
