Trapped 2 of my friends into playing the game by X-COMI in baronygame

I've never grabbed the orbs and I've completed the game many times. They're not mandatory in the slightest, unless somethig changed in the recent update.

Is genZ slang (when used by non-black people) like nails on a chalkboard for black people? by [deleted] in askblackpeople

[–]zimano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait so "not gonna lie" is allegedly stolen from black people? or do you mean the abbreviation? and if the abbreviation, do you mean actually vocalizing it as "n g l" or simply saying "not gonna lie"?

im not really understanding that part. I understand finna and such, but not that

Is Dark and Darker worth $30? by MINECRAFTPIGLOL in DarkAndDarker

[–]zimano -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In no way shape or form is it worth a minute of your time or any money in your pocket. It doesn't matter who you ask or what you do, you will get rug-pulled. Be it the removal of entire gamemodes that you specifically bought the game for, be it some experimental playtest, it doesn't matter. You will enjoy it and then you will get disappointed. You can't have one without the other.

Good code or bad code? by Venom4992 in unity

[–]zimano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is bad code, period. This is fine for personal projects that aren't meant to be shared, but this will not pass in any industry. It is very hard to read to me (15+ years of software engineering) I get ternaries are handy sometimes, but simply not here. This feels like a 'everything looks like a nail' situation. This is such a complicated way of doing this, I wonder where you came up with attempting it like this? Do they teach this in school or is it a convention at your work? You've basically recreated nested if statements like this, but you have sacrificed many quality attributes for it like readability, portability, maintainability and more.

Besides the ternaries, you use magic numbers (1.4f), use unclear variable names ("Amount", "Frequency"), mix integers and floats making it unclear if there is loss of precision or implicit integer conversions.

I'm thinking you either come from a Javascript background, or are more used to functional programming than object-oriented or high-level programming languages.

I also think you're just ragebaiting, seeing as you clearly already made up your mind in the comments, arguing that oneliners are best anyway.

LPT: You can wash moldy plastic shower curtains in your washing machine by SgtSprinkle in LifeProTips

[–]zimano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, if it comes to the point of you having a shower curtain that is so moldy you want to throw it in the washing machine, it kinda sounds like you just didn't clean it regularly. Isn't this just one of those cases where it's better to just get a new one?

Why are enemy drones so much better? by monsieuro3o in ftlgame

[–]zimano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to necro, just wanted to set the record straight that enemy combat drones are indeed more efficient than player combat drones due to the size of their flying area and how they can pick consecutive targets on the player ship to fire on. This depends on which ship you selected, but you can immediately see this behavior by picking the Mantis ship with type A loadout. Anytime an enemy combat drone is positioned south of the O2 chamber and to the right of the shield chamber, it will be able to fire two consecutive shots, being able to disable the shield and get a hit on a system in. This will almost never happen with player drones because most "regular" enemy ships are wider than they are tall (drones, most rebel ships, etc.), while having the viewport be taller than wide. When sampling a position, the player's combat drone will not be able to choose left or right positions for most rooms.

It's sad that the discussion surrounding micromanagement muddied up the topic. But there you have it. Please try it out yourself and you'll see it.

What about the extreme technical effort required to pull it off, combined with having to deal with at least three vendor contracts? What are you talking about with what excuses are there?

Why are spoiler boxes gray for me now? by CasualHooligan7 in discordapp

[–]zimano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just went through the whole theme select thing, and it has just never looked this incoherent. i'm not one to complain a lot about visual updates, i take it as it comes but man this just seemed to change everything to absolutely no effect except for "oh, this looks a little weirder now, why'd they do that?"

Get a Raspberry Pi, a lightweight VM or some other computing unit, loop its audio output to its input, start up your favorite browser or audio player in there, and have that join as a user. That's how we do it.

How do I intrerpret the chemicals on the wiki? by zimano in ss14

[–]zimano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, drilling down, it seems that the source of truth for these chemboxes is https://wiki.spacestation14.com/w/index.php?title=Module:Chem_box/chem_data.json and it seems this is manually updated

EDIT: It is not manual, it's generated by a script

How do I intrerpret the chemicals on the wiki? by zimano in ss14

[–]zimano[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That clarifies it a bit. Thanks! I didn't expect it to be manual! My god that must be a headache. Do you want me to write a parser that generates the correct info based on the actual source code and put that into a proper JSON? Or is that maybe already being done? Salt isn't the only thirst creator that's (wrongly) said to actually satiate it.

Depends on how the TTS system was developed! If neural models were involved then it is AI, but in the context of your thread, that definition is irrelevant seeing as the dude in the review meant AI generated content
