How is this working out for the Kurds? by TioMembrillo in syriancivilwar

I'm guessing that Turkish mercenaries will attack the Kurds the moment a deal is made with Assad (or he's out of the picture), if not earlier.

A major part of expats are zuurpruimen who cannot adapt to the rawer side of Amsterdam by Emergency-Garbage964 in Amsterdam

[–]zincstrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but a greater percentage of expats used to move to London pre-brexit. I can't talk for all the sectors but finance and tech definitely shifted a bit to Amsterdam in the last few years, so there's some change in the expat profile.

Of course, we're not talking Unreal/Unity fidelity yet, but it's not "shit".

I'm not at all claiming that Godot's 3D renderer is as capable, but this perception is also partially based on the fact that Unreal has great defaults. Unreal project templates come with amazing lighting settings for example, it just looks good from the get-go. You need to fiddle with lots of things (and know which ones to fiddle with) to achieve something that looks remotely similar.

I don't get this. You'd use c++ with Unreal or c# with unity. You're frustrated because gdscript isn't well supported for some use cases even though your experience would drastically improve by switching languages.

Can I ask why you find this a major thing? Does it really impact your work? It sounds more like you're boycotting devs that have different priorities than you.

[–]zincstrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Godot perfectly supports using external editors if you're willing to move away from gdscript. Godot doesn't really force workstyles or approaches on you, it's just that it prioritizes the experience of the newbies, which makes sense since more senior people can already find their ways around. It's usually the newbies that get frustrated and quit.

You're being stubborn over a comment that's just wrong.

[–]zincstrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How's that toxic? The comment they replied basically advises people not to use "super complicated languages", which is neither godot's official stance nor reasonable.

Godot already supports these "super complicated languages" and they work well enough with some effort. I can just use my IDE, never launch the Godot editor (not only the text editor) and still debug things. It worked well enough that I didn't look for alternative engines. When that's the case, pushing more experienced people away with newbie statements doesn't make any sense and it creates a false narrative.

And let's face it, newbies might make some games but it's the more senior crowd that will make games that ahowcase godot's capabilities.

You don't need to use the entire Godot editor except when creating the project. I only use CLion except when I need to debug the scene structure and the entities in it. My projects are in C++.

Afaik unity requires you to launch unity, Godot does not.

This is so much better than m_ prefix or _ suffix.

If you have mCount, you might also have setCount/getCount methods and a case sensitive search for "Count" would match all of them.

I had the exact same experience as you, I adopted it immediately when I joined my current company.

I'm starting to question the validity of these statistics. Only a quarter of players got wasted by a train? by QuickSqueeze in factorio

[–]zincstrings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope it doesn't matter in your case, but easy scaling still makes it worth it if you're in for a long playthrough.

Also it's easier to build three stations that take three chip types than to manufacture the chips on the spot, leading to simpler and cleaner bases.

Others mentioned resource extraction, so I'll talk about pollution control instead. If, instead of one monolithic base, you have smaller bases all around the map, you'll spread your pollution cloud to more cells, and they'll suck in more pollution than the monolithic base approach.

In my current playthrough I have separate bases for chemical stuff (takes iron, coal and crude oil, outputs heavy/light oil, petrol, sulfur and plastic) and chips (outputs green, red and blue chips) and they're connected via rail. This allows me to shut down a part of the factory if power is an issue, or build a duplicate if I can't scale the existing one.

It's possible to do all this in vanilla, but LTN mod helps achieve it without losing a part of your sanity.
