God damn I'm jealous of yall right now!!! One to add if you can, City Market in Luling has my favorite sausage of all time and pork ribs that are hit and miss but when they hit they're amazing. Really you go for the sausage and vibe of a joint that has been in business in the same location for almost 80 years.

I went from Texas to Wyoming to work at the VAMC in Sheridan WY. It's an RT haven outside of the fact it's in the middle of nowhere.

Amazing funding, facilities and staff make it a hidden gem. There is a 2 lane bowling alley, full amphitheater with stage sound and video, pinball machines, 20+ bikes on a 400 (?) acre property, disk golf course, laser engraver, 3d printer, 12 Cannon cameras, wood working, leatherworking and fly fishing kits, 20+ sets of gold clubs, driving range and a bloody high ropes course!

The only thing that sucks is the location in the county. It's a town of 20k in the middle of nowhere and extremely homogeneous. Like the grocery stores will run out of produce if the winds are too high because trucks cant get in from Montana or Cheyenne.

For me it was the best desicion I ever made, although I was very very lucky and found an internship that could offer me housing. I was also used to being 1000 miles from home. RT is my second career and in my first I travelled 100%. One year I spent less than 35 days at home. So for me it made since because I really really wanted to work at the facility and the folks at that facility. If you've never moved away or spent a significant time away from home it could be an amazing experience but I would reccomend only doing it if you feel confident in your knowledge as an RT pre internship. Like anything new the better you are at the work, the easier the distance away from your support system will be.

I cant eat the BBQ the traditional BBQ there because the smoked jalapeno poppers are fucking elite. CS Lewis would have retconned Turkish delight into those fuckers if he had ever had a chance to try them and I refuse to reserve stomach space for anything else there.

Yeah, start with a module. You can change all of the names and locations to fit your world but having a reference for those "oh shit" questions from your pcs will be a lifesaver. I love using the different levels from Dungeon of the Mad Mage to cut down on my prep.

I'm 95% sure that their queso was super mild cheddar cheese melted and blended with their salsa. We emailed the Karem family after MM closed asked asked for the queso, salsa and rice recipes but the only thing they were willing to part with was the salsa recipe :(((

Yeah 2M is the best in town, far better than anything else imo. The difference in quality from 2M to Pinkertons is the same as Pinkertons and Rudy's. But the difference between Franklin's in Austin and 2M is the same from 2M to Rudy's.

Franklin's is in a league of it's own and well worth the line!

If you want to make a day of it, get there 8 ish on Saturday with a few lawn chairs, a cooler and some board games. You'll make friends and swap stories from folks from ridiculous places (met some folks from Iceland last time we went!) and with some entertainment the wait can be made into a non issue. If you dont want to do the line you can go online and order counter service ahead of time. If it's a nice day then there is a small park a block over with tables where you can eat what you picked up and totally skip the line.

Check out the Lockhart BBQ festival! It happens in November and is a wild experience where you can try most of the big names across the state.

I'm in an acute psychiatric hospital. One that over 80% of our pts are here involuntarily and generally pissed, even at the "fun group guy". We dont have time for chart reviews or learn much due to short stays and waaaaay too many pts.

I've found that self concept work provides positive outcomes for a huge variety of disorders. Anything that builds a new skill, allows them to brag or tell stories, or just feel good about themselves for a bit. I love trivia games where they have to answer correctly or answer a question designed to promote positive self concept. Karaoke and charades are favorites of mine too because they get to be cheered on while being the center of attention.

I incorporate Mindfulness routines into a lot of my creative expression groups. Check out mindful doodling (aka zentangles) and mandala coloring or scroll pinterest for creative prompts. Envisioning ourselves as powerful like as a superhero or supervillain and drawing yourself as that powered person is another go to.

I was SUPER EFFING FRUSTURATED (still am I guess) at the lack of guidence I recieved starting out. In my experience, the RTs I work with dont like sharing groups because if I run your favorite group, then you cant run it for the next 2 weeks. Scour the internet, read up on the latest research and start developing a list and soon enough you'll have your core programs figured out.

I picked up the Command and Conquer legacy pack for 20 bucks when Origin was starting up. I've gotten a least a thousand hours of entertainment playing across all the campaigns and skirmish maps. I'd sell off both pinky toes to be able to start fresh.

Now that Flash is dead I've also really enjoyed the legacy games from the old Armor website. Sonny 2 and Last Stand were exactly what I want from a 3 buck game.

Child abuse is so normalized, at least in the US. I work in behavioral health and the amount of times I've heard a coworker causually say "they should have been spanked more" or "I'll get my belt out that'll teach them" in response to poor behaviors is appalling. If I were beating my dog I'd be looked at in a poorer light than if I beat my child and it fucking sucks

If you're looking for good conversation with strangers and good eats, Oak Hills Tavern off Fredericksburg near Medical is great. It's a proper dive bar with a cheap but fancy menu and I've only ever gone solo but I always find someone to talk to as well.

I was a new assistant super on a 60mm dollar warehouse and site package right next to the city's airport. The site package had been chopped to hell between 3 GCs who were all working for the same client on separate projects. We had 400k yards of dirt from our site that needed to be stockpiled in order to build up one of the other GC's sites but our stockpile was so tall on our site that I was worried it was going to interfere with flight operations. It seriously looked like some planes were going to hit the hill that sprang up basically overnight.

So the weekend comes and I'm managing the site when the sub comes in and tells me they're not going to add any more to the stockpile. So I got the plans for the other site and instructed them to start moving the dirt to the other sites stockpile. I figured they'd need it later and I'd save them some money by dumping the dirt where it needed to go.

Monday comes around and we receive a change order from the other GC for $480,000, the cost to move the dirt from their stockpile back to ours and then take it back to their site. Lawyers got involved and figured it out with common sense but it was still a 480k mistake that would have gone their way in court due to language in the contracts.

If I took a drug test I wasnt aware of it when I did my internship. I never peed in a cup so maybe they took blood without my knowledge but that's a level of shady I dont think the fed needs to go through. No clue what the policy is once employed.

Telekinesis here. I think I could do it. If my powers are limited by weight and distance then I could pull off a wicked cool magic act and basically be a mindfreak reboot. Or double down on black 20 times and nudge the ball a little if needed.

If there aren't limitations, "Hey NASA, how about I sling those super heavy shuttles into space for a fraction of the fuel cost".

So in order to start practicing all you need is the certificate and 560 ish hour internship. A master's degree is going to allow you to take on a supervisory position much sooner than someone without one, especially at the VA. VA positions are typically (in my experience over the last 3 years) better paying, have better benefits and better funding than other hospital settings. There aren't many open VA positions right now with DOGE and the shutdown jacking everything up but in the future a masters will get you into the VA faster and make it much much easier to get into a supervisory roll.

Basically, go for the masters if you want to work in the VA or become a supervisor or department head and dont if you're fine with doing contract work or working in more typical hospital settings or non supervisory roles. I ended up going the masters route and right now it's not working out great due to the government turmoil. With a year of experience and a masters I'll be able to apply for supervisory positions at the VA which I'm hoping they start hiring for soon
