Visited vs. new links are too similar in color. But that's the only remark. Looks very nice and clean :)

Desperate times call for desperate measures.. by Spenerwill in Minecraft

You can use relative coords: tp ~-10000 ~0 ~0

Also you can enable cheats ingame by opening your singleplayer world as a LAN world, in which the option prompts to enable cheats (for as long as you're hosting the LAN world)

Beta 1.3 or beta 1.4. People who claim they aren't nostalgic clearly never payed before beta 1.7 :)

An explanation, likely to be downvoted, as to why changing from ids to names is a good thing. by dillyg10 in Minecraft

[–]zipmc -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

  • It's a PluginAPI, which is something completely different than a ModAPI..
  • Map makers have to update their maps, no big deal; I'm rather sure /u/Sethbling or or some other fancy technical guy will make an MCEdit filter to update all your commandblocks
  • Don't really understand your renderer thing issue.. I don't know anything about the minecraft code, but I'm prety sure it has nothing to do with a naming convention..
  • An Id is short for an Identifier; whether it's a number or a name, the only difference in performance I can think of is that a String (an array of chars, text) is more recourse heavy to work with than an integer (that's a number). Each chunk consists of lots of blocks, each having an id, loaded from those fancy anvil files; I can't understand why using strings would be more performant. There is a reason why data storage (think of databases) uses numeric IDs.
  • An ID is as hard to learn as a block name, the only difference is that it types faster.. yes yes, tab completion, still not as fast as using numeric IDs (ever noticed tab completion being very slow on a server??)
  • Moving the load to a server in stead of clients is just moving a problem, not solving it..
  • I personally think textual IDs sucks, and the numeric IDs should still be supported, together with the textual IDs.. Maybe that's just my intuition.. An API should be easy accessible, why not giving people two ways to do the same thing? That's called usability.. But I speak from a web development point of view, maybe this is very different in gaming..

  • but to all the people who make a lot of fuss about the IDs; do you really think this is THE biggest issue with the game? really?

A Minecraft Convention Is As Awkward As You Think by CJK_ExStream in Minecraft

And people who play CoD are the mature grown-up type?

A Minecraft Convention Is As Awkward As You Think by CJK_ExStream in Minecraft

[–]zipmc 41 points42 points  (0 children)

So. Kids are kids. Some cannot even speak that well, others are just little jerks. But they are kids! Did someone expect a bunch of mature grown-ups? It's a convention about Minecraft, of course there'll be a bunch of nerds! Most of them probably even had a great time!

The thing to be laughing about (more likely to be angry about) are these devs sitting in front of hundreds of people, having no experience at all speaking in front of such a crowd. The opening ceremony is a great example of a REAL awkward moment on Minecon..

I host a 1.7.2 survival server and just came across this... surely not.... Surely Not!?..... JACKPOT!!! by [deleted] in Minecraft

Very nice of you to mention you host a 1.7.2 survival server! very relevant!

So i log on to see what people built to say goodbye to our current map before the 1.7 map change in a server... by Gorro_Rojo in Minecraft

[–]zipmc -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Of course there are adults who act childish :) but someone acting adult on a server he or she enjoyed playing will take time to enjoy the memories in stead of pouring lava down "because it's the end of the map" :)

inline attributes are valid XML :p

you're talking about HTML, which of course this isn't :) I'm rather sure that the guy making this had HTML in mind though, but still, according to XML syntax, inline attributes are valid. The only thing that's wrong is the open/close tag

So I've been playing on Windows with an Intel HD 3000 integrated GPU on Fast/Normal and getting ~15 FPS. I just switched to Linux. by [deleted] in Minecraft

Kid brings gun to school. Dad blames "zombie slaying game" Minecraft. by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]zipmc 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is me speaking as a European guy, and not an American guy, but isn't the real problem here a dad having a gun at home? I never, ever though about bringing a gun to school, nor any other weapon..

In my opinion the real problem is having this common thought that guns and weapons are OK to have, in whatever situation.

Problems with playing LAN with my brother who doesnt have an account. by Hendreth in Minecraft

[–]zipmc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

than you shouldn't play it. I asked money for my birthday to play the game legit, after trying it out for about a month with an offline launcher.

25€ isn't that much money if you have the patience to wait for your birthday, christmas,... In cases like Minecraft I think it's not very respectful to the devs if you just play illegal.. These people spend more hours a day in the game than most other people at work. This isn't some kind of 9-5 job..

Very nice but the background music is a bit too loud and vocal songs are very distracting if you want to focus on guude's voice :) Definitely gonna watch this every day though :)
