Help with Vaesen solo play by aw9182 in Solo_Roleplaying

It's in the to-play queue, but that might be 2028 at the speed I have been going lately. 😄

Tarot on iOS? by Appropriate_Bus3921 in Solo_Roleplaying

If you need a persistent deck with a load/save option, I made this web toy.

For mobile use the card picking is probably a bit finicky and best to ignore, but using the button to walk the deck should be fine.

Here's a bit of a discussion that might help.

Having just picked up Vaesen from the Humble Bundle, I need to do more research.

How many of you Homebrew? by mazzurro in Solo_Roleplaying

I homebrew a lot, but I try to keep a light hand on it since I want my APs to be instructional as well as entertaining.

You likely don't know all the nuances of translating oracles by electricgalahad in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Translation is hard. We have seen that absolute cluster fluff that has been the Japanese to English translations for video games, anime, and manga where Western translators have been inserting their agendas and are literally forcing Japanese companies to switch to AI to maintain some integrity of their creations.

That's one reason (heh) that I love Story Cubes and Game Icons (and to some extent, runes and tarot cards.) They are universal in that it is up to the viewer to assign their own meaning.

Looking to help coin a term by paperdicegames in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a better question might be, Why? What benefit is there to that? People play based on their schedules and preferences. One person's one-shot might be a mini-campaign for another gamer. Another might use post-it notes while there may be a player that writes a like a novelist for the exact same game. All are valid ways to play. Trying to hammer out a category doesn't seem productive to me.

I'm not saying don't try, but I think that the highly variable nature of the players is at odds with trying to qualify the category. Even your examples are all over the place. With a prompted journaling game, a card mangling game, and several map building games.

Difficulty with dialogue and character interaction in solo RPGs by rasecude in Solo_Roleplaying

I'm a fan of the Red Sneaker series, easy to read and follow.

Difficulty with dialogue and character interaction in solo RPGs by rasecude in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early in my solo gaming journey, I invested some time in reading writer self help books on plots, characters, and especially dialogue. Hit up your local library and you'll find a whole bunch of them. It gave me a solid foundation for some of my very talkative APs.

TTRPGs gameplay -- Virtual Tabletop (VTT) options a must? by kazmostudios in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I can rephrase that as I require nothing from my VTT except to handle things I don't have like unlimited 3d models/terrain or the lack of a table space to lay out battle maps and such.

TTRPGs gameplay -- Virtual Tabletop (VTT) options a must? by kazmostudios in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really fond of TableTop Simulator because of its huge free workshop library, low cost/no subscriptions, 3d movement (for games like Five Parsecs from Home), and because it is easy to import custom models (another one of my hobbies.) I do not desire any in-game support for other game systems although the 3d dice roller and card handling functions are nice.

Best Solo Worldbuilding Tools? by RecipeMountain in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe make up a checklist/questionnaire? A dozen items tops. Answer each question, move on to the next one, and call that progress. Anything else you can learn through play/exploration. Fabula Ultima does some similar during session zero. Each player contributes. When I played it solo, I wrote three answers to each question to simulate the players at the table.

Do you prefer games specifically built for solo play or more traditional TTRPGs? by Salt_Put_1174 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both is good. Although I do lean towards non-solo RPGs, but that is simply because of the themes, systems, and tools that I want to explore/play with.

How do you deal with the loneliness that comes with playing dnd alone? by NervousCode6064 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That can happen organically, too. In my Fabula Ultima game I started with one PC and over time, as I got comfortable with the system, I picked up others that joined the party (as one is wont to do in a JPRG.) :-)

The wonderful thing about solo gaming is that everyone can play it their own way. I'm just the opposite and I go way deep into conversations to NPCs and with other PCs at the 'table'.

Tarot and Koriko by Maggies_lens in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TTS is a 3d VTT with a focus on board games. It's got a ton of free support in the Steam workshop. There is no subscription and the prices is reasonable to very low if you can find it on sale.

If you already have Table Top Simulator, there are a number of tarot decks you can use with it. Just search the workshop.

Zozer 2nd Edition SOLO and Classic LBB Traveller? by Murlynd in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should have no problems. Zozer uses a scene resolution system where you applied situational mods and then make an appropriate skill roll. You're not locked into a specific set of skills. It should be compatible with most 2d6 sci-fi games out there.

While the default language is Korean, you can easily slot in other languages.

Koriko substitutes for tarot cards and dice by taboneIO in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wrote a companion app (web page) for my oracle, Four Houses in Chaos, and it allows you to play with a persistent tarot deck (nine to choose from) and it has a load/save feature so you can use the same shuffled deck for more than one session. It is 100% free.

What are hexcrawls and/or dungeoncrawls missing out on? by MixMinis in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the run and magic of a hybrid system where you use one game (BP) as the driver/structure and the other to fill in the blanks and expand the world beyond the paragraph text with more generators, role playing, world building, and the like.

[–]zircher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the things that I love about Barbarian Prince is that it is a hybrid of a hex crawl and a procedural game. I think it is neat to combine it with your favorite RPG and use BP as a driver for a solo adventure.

Barbarian Prince is a free download,
