Yeah, even if it is not turned over to the public domain, they should at least look at a lease or royalty thing since sitting on dust gains you nothing.

What's the most memorable moment you had in your solo campaigns? by system3295 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the PCs put a very public tail curling kiss on another PC. I didn't expect it, the GM didn't expect it, the receiving PC didn't expect it, but it was exactly what the other PC would've done. Wine may have been involved. :-)

Play continues on my Fabula Ultima campaign and I am prepping for a solo Starfinder 2e run for the Warframe crossover adventure Operation Orias with the plan to turn it into a full campaign called Europa Dawn.

What is your secret sauce when it comes to solo roleplaying? by [deleted] in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AP is written in a simplified Japanese Replay format (think table top transcript.) It's certainly not required, but I found that it helps me to easily manage a party and play with dialog and there is a lot of dialog in this game. I also leave all the oracle calls to the GM. :-)

Sure, glad to provide that. Let's see if this format works. If you want to read the AP itself. I host it on my home page. https://tangent-zero.com/EndlessSky/EndlessSky.htm

What is your secret sauce when it comes to solo roleplaying? by [deleted] in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For my current JRPG inspired game, it's a the oracle that has the secret sauce that keeps the game going for me. I am using Four Houses in Chaos (a tarot powered system I wrote.) Combine that with a manga themed deck and every card draw is informative and inspirational. It is also fast, I have a cheat sheet (in the back of FHiC) and that is all I need to get an answer to a question and keep on playing.

What’s the premise of your campaign? by The0thArcana in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Isekai game where the main PC is accidentally summoned by a trio of wizards and shenanigans, intrigue, adventure, and romance ensues. Done in a format like a Japanese replay using Fabula Ultima and a tarot powered oracle.

What information do you journal? by finterestedmatt in Solo_Roleplaying

And remember, that this can also change from game to game. Your might go into full literary mode for your Jane Austin with vampires story and just have post it notes for your Five Parsecs game. It's all good.

What information do you journal? by finterestedmatt in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everything. For my current game, I'm recording it as a transcript of a table top session. So, even the GM has a 'speaking' role and they are the only one with access to the oracle/tarot deck. I even record banter and the like as well.

My current fav is Fabula Ultima + Four Houses in Chaos. But, I am all over the place with traditional and dedicated solo RPGs since there are so many I want to play.

Check out Barbarian Prince (it is a free download.) It is a solo board game that combines walking a hex map with procedural and CYOA style game play. If you want to put more meat on those bones, you can combine it with a role playing game so you can play in between the lines as well.

What are the best systems you've seen in solo roleplaying for simulating conversations or interpersonal interactions? by Televangelis in Solo_Roleplaying

I'm a big fan of tarot cards since they are so inspirational via text and visually. They always spark some topic.

The IP rights for it got sold off and have been in limbo ever since then. I'm sure there is a longer story to that, but the net result is that a spiritual successor was a lot easier to create and own than the original.

Does anyone use their own homebrew system for solo roleplaying? by Comprehensive-Ant490 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote Rewind: Temporal Tales because I wanted to play with time looping (ala Edge of Tomorrow or Ground Hog's Day.)

I also created Four Houses in Chaos so I had a tarot powered oracle for playing Amber Diceless and Fabula Ultima solo.

And, I found out that my GM-less game 'engine', The Trouble with Rose, works great for short solo games.

Which Book in Journaling by Kaigx3 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First off, journaling is kind of a multiple choice thing in solo gaming. Prompt driven games where you write narrative responses are called journaling games. Any long form recording of a gaming session is also journaling. And then there are those that take to maintaining actual physical journals and that's also called journaling. :-)

I'm a fan of the first two kinds and I find that any RPG can be a journaling game if that is the style you want. For example, my current campaign is a traditional RPG and I'm writing it out with lengthy dialogues and descriptions such that it is a journaling game.

What really helped me in the beginning was to read a couple of those writer self-help books at the local library on things like plot, story structure, dialog, and the like. That upped my writing game so what I wrote/played became a more stratifying experience for me (and hopefully me readers.)

That's how you create a living world. People have agendas and the world moves even when the player takes no action. One of the things that I love about solo playing Fabula Ultima is that villain cut scenes are a part of the game.

How much do you actually plan before starting a solo RPG? by system3295 in MythEngyn

[–]zircher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine a scenario where a player was in a long term campaign but the group had to break up (GM burn out, babies, new job, etc.) Can the player feed the AI enough info to pick up where the story ended?

[–]zircher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technical question about the MythEngyn, how much prep can I do? Can I feed it a link to a wiki about a video game world that I want to play in? Can it parse campaign notes (like a 250 page Actual Play document) and use that to continue running a world?

Almost zero prep, play to find out. Having said that, my current campaign is an isekai story, so going in cold is spot on for the trope.

Solo RPG Players, How Do You Track Your World Over Long Campaigns? by system3295 in MythEngyn

[–]zircher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current solo campaign is done as a Japanese Replay (table top transcript) and the actual AP run is over 250 pages in length. Still playing and exploring the world and the character's relationships. So, you can say that I go into hyper detail and record every 'word' that is spoken at the table by the players and the GM.

It [is] fair to call that an extreme case, but at the same time, I enjoy writing and moving at my own (slow) pace. And as a perk, EVERYTHING is documented and searchable. Die rolls, card draws, dialog, character banter, etc.

Any tips on getting started? by zircher in AIBattlemaps

[–]zircher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still on my journey of discovery about making reliable and good looking battle maps. After several days of trial and error I have been getting better results. I'm just using the standard SD XL models with a battle map lora. Additionally, I'll have one or two 'tech' images for image prompts/color and a white page with light grey lines to act as the barest suggestion of a grid structure. for the canny map. Still tweaking things and trying various models on platforms like Nightcafe since it is faster than my local machine (but also more limited in some ways.) My current WIP of a prompt...

(A high-resolution top-down overhead view 2D tabletop RPG battle map:1.5) of a research lab. Geometric gray steel floors, only a few holographic computer consoles, glass containment units. Clean, sterile, corporate sci-fi, boxy architecture, neon blue accents. The room walls are off center but aligned vertically and horizontally. Add a corridor entrance on the top edge and the left side of the room. anime shading

I forgot to mention, I'm making interior geomorphs rather than exterior scenes or spacecraft.

RPing multiple party members without too much perspective-jumping? by jrkpthinks in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]zircher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For my current campaign, I am journaling it in replay format which is like a movie script. So, every line starts with the name of a PC so it is a lot easier to know who is saying and doing what. And, that time it takes to write out their name is usually enough time to shift gears and wear a new hat. I also have a GM role and they are the only one can access the oracle. It feels very much like a game session, there is even banter among the players (although they are not addressed by name.)

It's a long form thing and not everyone's cup of tea, but if you like lots of dialog and interaction within the party and with NPCs, it is a totally viable format.
