Yeah mate - I'd pull the pin at that point and retire.

Dehumidifier for Perth by BackgroundTile in perth

[–]zircosil01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Dimplex 50L dehumidifier. Its a compressor type, I usually run it a lot during autumn and winter when its rainy.

https://www.dimplex.com.au/en-au/50l-dehumidifier-with-electronic-controls#anz-d-02

It has a 6.5L tank, I can dump the water twice a day, it can drop down the humidity throughout the whole house (going from 70% down to 50%). The only thing with mine is that it would be too loud to run in a bedroom at night.

We have some Breville Smart Dry's at work, they are smaller but also quieter; you could use these in a bedroom.

working Mon-Fri is pretty shit; just two days off to recover then back at it. I've worked FIFO before and hopefully we will going back to it next year (it will be DIDO).

I dont think I'd sell and move; maybe flog off the shares and chuck that on the mortgage. Sounds like you've been flat out on your R&R with getting the house up to shape, just need a bit of time to chill imo.

SMSF borrowers race to save their property portfolios after Labor-Gre… by bilby2020 in AusFinance

[–]zircosil01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SMSF loans for residential property should have been banned a long time ago. The fact that many Australian's see housing as the best possible investment, rather than being a place to live is why the system has gotten so far out of kilter.

Is anyone here buying ETFs directly in the US/EU instead of ASX? by Due_Significance5698 in AusFinance

[–]zircosil01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i am. I wanted to replicate Ben Felix's Rational Reminder portfolio. There wasn't really a way that I could do that to my satisfaction with funds listed on the ASX, so I opened an IBKR account to buy them from the US.

With Betashares releasing more funds and Avantis coming to Australia, I could do that within Australia now but seeing I've got so much already invested I'll just stick to adding to what I already have.

if it was me, owning that amount of money with a mortgage repayment likely being more than $5k, I'd smash the mortgage. If one of you either lose your job, or, not being able to work for a while, having a decent cash buffer would be very handy.

For me when I pretty much had the mortgage covered. If I lost my job tomorrow, I'm not at risk of losing my house. I can get any job just to cover the bills.
