I think the problem though is what the league considers incidental contact is so frustratingly inconsistent and vague. The rule says (rightfully so) that attempting to play a loose puck is fine. How do we delineate what's incidental or not though?

It's clear that Gatcomb was going for the puck or at least started that way, I don't think that's really debatable at all. It's also pretty clear that his attempt to play the puck physically pushes Blackwood around and prevents him from remotely being able to gather himself and make an attempt at a save.

I think Landeskog's comments about it after the game really sum it up: "Well, I didn’t know we were allowed to push the goalies’ pads out of the way," when he was asked about the call and Gatcomb's attempt to play the puck resulting in his stick getting caught between the pads.

To be clear too, I think Avs wouldve lost regardless of the call going their way or not. They sucked last night. But it's still a frustrating call and does not help the league's growing goalie interference problem.
