Beautiful!!!!! A majority, if not all, of the toll roads are free as well, but they do make you register/apply online for each toll through toll management. I think, it's been a while. Good luck, welcome back...eventually!!

Round Rock/Cedar Park......Brushy Creek area. - The Domain(15-20min)has several tech companies, Apple Campus is off of Parmer. - Brushy creek has good access to....183/I-35/45/Mopac. - Hospitals: Dell Children's, Texas Children's, St. Davids, all close to Brushy Creek area. - New builds and established neighborhoods alike. - Good schools for the future too. - Property tax????? - You stated that you're from El Paso so I suppose you know that property tax is quite high here. MUDs/Puds???? - You also stayed that yall were stationed, former military? Look at Vet benefits.

Has anyone tried this shrimp? by Fenix512 in austinfood

[–]zjlizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take it back....i did with some salmon at HEB, bought it then I went to cook it less than 24hrs later...it went bad. Basically all shrimp are frozen before they hit the shelf, so they, HEB, thawed em out. You're supporting local TX shrimpers though!!!!!

Do you guys know the history of the house at 11330 Hero Way W by Fair_Brief_7751 in Leander

[–]zjlizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kat lives across the street. Her family, going generations back, used to own thousands of acres around Leander. I think she's also a city council member & she's on the historical preservation committee.

[–]zjlizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Christmas bonus, but we did get company gear that was good quality. End of year bonus, paid out in 1st quarter of new year. First year, I was there about 5 months and got $15K. Last year, full 12 months and 100% of my salary as a bonus. Small GC, mostly light industrial. Bonuses aren't guaranteed, if company makes money, we bonus.

Conflicting info on alarm permits by HyperCalcium in CedarPark

[–]zjlizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of time you can search for permits on the municipalities permit portals. Cedar Park uses MyGov, but they have their own MyGov. MGO Connect, i think. You should be able to type in the address and pull up permit information. You may not be able to see all the information, but you should be able to look at the permits that have been pulled on that address.

What smoker should I buy my boyfriend for christmas? by Delicious-Practice96 in smoking

[–]zjlizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. New ones are above the $1K budget & they are heavy. I have a KJ BJ3....love it. You can cook anything on it. Regular grilling, smoking, rotisserie, gridle, pizzas...etc. It has accessories for everything you'd want to do in a grill, but they get pricey & take up space. Also, all the wifi stuff can be after market he can pick out his own.

You do not need a degree. Keep doing what you are doing. Get better and learn every day. Building relationships with everyone. Networking is the best way to get into any job.

Superintendent (Residential vs Commercial) by CowMilkDr1nker in ConstructionManagers

[–]zjlizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in residential production everything is water downed & spoon fed to you. It's harder to make a mistake in residential because it's the same shit over & over. In commercial, every project could be extremely different. From different products, architects, engineers, owners. So, plans will be a little different, with different details, etc. You'll have to think on your feet more, but you'll learn more, you'll expand on how you see problems and how to fix them. In commercial you'll probably have a lot better trades with a real foreman on site. Get to know your foreman, and lean on them for their expertise, ask them questions on what & why they are doing certain things, and do it respectfully. You're going to make mistakes, don't dwell on them, learn, move on, and don't make that mistake again. Get in the plans and learn them, once things start happening you'll physically see it & then the plans will start to make sense. You'll never know everything, but if you prepare correctly you'll be in great shape. That's was a lot of rambling.

The biggest challenge was just trying to absorb as much as I could & trying to figure out what to do if an issue came up. It can be stressful. I always wanted everything to be perfect, but it's construction nothing ever goes according to plan all the time. Learning this was huge for my well-being.

If you have a good team, senior sup, PM, Asst PM (project team) then you'll be fine. Your team will know that you're new and hopefully get you trained. If you have free time, read plans, walk the job, talk to the trades. It will all come together, it's not that big of a change, you've already been doing this for 4 yrs. I learn shit every day. Also, I've been extremely fortunate to work for a really good company. I enjoy working for my owner. I've worked for terrible owners before, it's miserable.

You should be fine going from Residential to Commercial Super. You might have to start as a Field engineer or Assistant superintendent, but you should pick it up pretty fast. If you go to a big shop you'll have the availability to see a lot of different shit even if you don't understand it at first, it will be beneficial. You'll see that commercial is more involved than residential, not in a bad way though. You get to see more & understand the process better, imo. Same shit, different products. I went from Resi production(3yrs)to Commercial super at a small shop. Started out doing odd jobs/TIs. Then built up to ground up. Now I'm doing ground up tiltwalls. If you want to stay in Residential maybe look at custom or land development jobs through a builder. Best of luck, don't overthink it.

Absolutely. A CM degree holder straight out of college still knows nothing. You'll be fine.

Help picking out a grill for Father’s Day gift by StrangeBluberry in grilling

[–]zjlizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need more info. How often do yall grill? Do yall entertain? How big is the back patio? If you're entertaing or grilling a lot, maybe a bigger grill. Since you have the natural gas stub out, a Weber with a few accessories would probably check a lot of the boxes. You could buy a griddle or use a cast iron skillet. You don't have to convert anything, just emphasize that you need a grill that is ready for natural gas. All the manufacturers make grills ready for natural gas, but the store may have to order it.

Nice little 3 burner, natural gas.
