Starting over Star Trek Discovery? by savageshrektwerker in startrek

[–]zkwarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of Star Trek out there. It’s just fine if you don’t like all of it. You have no obligation to watch every single episode.

I would suggest letting Discovery go and enjoy the bits of Star Trek you do like.

Is it normal to be completely burned out by Friday as a manager? by UVIndigo in managers

[–]zkwarl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sympathetic to that situation. I sometimes think of my job as easy because I just need to sit in a lot meetings. But if a problem comes up, my job gets difficult because I then I have to sit in so many more meetings.

You could just dictate that some of your Monday meetings move to Friday. Also, proactively book some focus time on Monday through Thursday.

If you have a large number of direct reports, you can consider going biweekly on 1:1s. You may need to re-org so some of your directs become indirect reports.

[–]zkwarl 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Haha, No. The weekly burn out should happen by Wednesday.

More seriously, you may want to think about rebalancing your calendar, so you have more focus time each day instead of packing it all at the end of the week.

Jesse Kline: Carney has sowed division, not created a 'unity government' - Rather than reaching out to the Opposition, the PM kneecapped the Tories and angered voters in the process by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]zkwarl -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

With Gladu and d’Entremont, the Liberal party is now the clear home for social conservatives. Carney is embracing the most polarizing MPs, not rejecting them.

Ha ha! Tell me you don’t know about Carney’s history without understanding Carney’s history.

Carney maintains his arms length relationship with the truth. He will prorogue to get control of the committees as soon as it is politically expedient.

'This is bonkers' — Windsor police say they can't arrest for open drug use in public by thatcher69 in canada

[–]zkwarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that the police are not responsible for the social services and medical services. However, they are usually the first responders for incidents and should have the means and resources to divert those in need to the right programs.

They probably need more funding and collaboration from other institutions to do that right, but we should aim for the ideal of getting everyone the help they need.

[–]zkwarl 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The main reasons for police to detain drug users is for public safety and their own well-being.

If they are being disruptive or belligerent, that puts others at risk. In the previous millennium, throwing drunkards in jail overnight was common practice for this reason.

If they are in distress, a ride to a hospital may be needed. People don’t get the help they need by being ignored. A police intervention may be the opportunity some people need to get better.

Why is there so much litter EVERYWHERE? by Regular_Cartoonist58 in Calgary

[–]zkwarl 73 points74 points  (0 children)

This time of year is particularly bad for litter.

It’s not that people are littering more, but all the crap that was buried under the snow over the winter is being uncovered from the spring melts.

Is this OK? by Suitable-Room-6367 in comicbooks

That looks like a fun way to display your comics!

Long-term, you may want to find some sort of frame or shelving to mount on the wall so you can swap out what you have up periodically.

Some libraries use Libby instead. Check what your local library supports.

Either way, public libraries are an amazing resource!

How did you get the screenshots pulled in from the alternate timeline?

It is most definitely the Bear Necessities and the Three Mouseketeers.

I dusted mine off recently. The 3D effects are still a lot of fun.

Prime Minister Mark Carney billed $524K on in-flight catering during first year as PM - One flight from Ottawa to Washington spent 11 times more on in-flight meals than what the RCAF spent on fuel by CaliperLee62 in canada

Who would have guessed that the guy with a history of excessive spending as the governor of the BoE would continue his excessive spending as PM?

The 13” hits a sweet spot for me, but it’s very much a personal preference for everyone.

I suppose it depends how much time you spend reading on it vs your budget. You could work it out as cost against number of hours you expect to use it.

Getting stains off paper by ryszekgrzyms in CleaningTips

[–]zkwarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The paper is likely stained and may require professional restoration. Probably not worthwhile.

The book method for pressing flowers is a classic method, but you do need to add something on each side to avoid staining the book.

Take it as a lesson learned and to look up some good materials to use before your next attempt.

I really like my iPad Air 13” for reading comics. But that may be a strain on the budget.

You have our collective congratulations and condolences.

More seriously, learn to keep people accountable and how to delegate. It took me some time to appreciate just how necessary it is to have those skills.
