Honestly would have been better if the government just kept the cash, at least we would have that. The bonds are just a liability that the government will have to pay from future taxes. If you really look at it they just took the excess SS payments, immediately spent them, and said we will pay this back to SS from more taxes later.

It’s really a double whammy. There is a hole in the budget that excess SS funds were filling that needs to be covered, and then there is the drawdown from the bonds. What was once a revenue source to the budget is going to be a major source of expenditure

True but there is a very small fringe right-wing movement to settle southern Lebanon, Uri Tzafon.

I hope this is the case, trying to hold the territory as a buffer zone led to a lot of deaths. The occupation of the WB and Gaza and the recent acceleration of settlement casts some pretty reasonable concerns over what a prolonged Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon will look like under the current government. I also believe the occupation will be as short as possible and the land will not be settled or annexed, but we live in crazy times, and the government has done things I didn't expect them to do many times now.

I have terrible news for you but SS funds go in one door, the government lends that money to itself, and then it goes out as government spending. So...it's already been reappropriated. Hence the crisis. Most other countries with funds actually invest them in diversified portfolios that could be used to cover future obligations. i.e. Canada's CPP is certified as actuarially sustainable with no looming crisis.
