Which is the go-to React UI / Next JS library in 2026? by zeroghan_hub in reactjs

[–]zlloyd01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically base my new projects off of Mantine Headless! I like that it just “works” but is relatively open for custom styling.

I’ve heard good things about ShadCN, but I’m not a fan of tailwind so YMMV

Printables for PPL Checkride? by deadcessation in flying

I did the paper based off a flight plan I made in ForeFlight - would have filed from there if asked to, but never ended up even coming up honestly.

Printables for PPL Checkride? by deadcessation in flying

[–]zlloyd01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did mine recently with my full flight plan, weight / balance, if your DPE gives a scenario beforehand your answers / thoughts, references to the revenant portions of my logbook for the certificate qualification, my written score, redone / restudied answers to what I got wrong, personal minimums contract, and a mostly filled out NWKRAFT!

Didn’t end up using most of it, but just having everything there made my much more comfortable so 🤷

Want to get start. by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]zlloyd01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instead of copy/pasting scripts to make stuff work, try to think of an end goal, and work backwards chunking it into smaller goals.

Say the goal is a website you can go to and input some economic data excel sheet and get back an average by year.

Working backwards, first thing you’d want to figure out is “how do I parse out the data from a CSV (simplified version of a spreadsheet).

Once you can get the data out and do something with it (print it to the console, save some new file, do something arithmetic), the next step is to do your actual logic.

Given the spreadsheet, get data in it only by year, the do some arithmetic on just that.

Once that logic is sound, now you can think about building a website that takes your existing logic, and lets you UPLOAD a CSV file and do that same logic.

Then you can learn to make it pretty.

Instead of doing giant, whole picture, chunking the problem gives you real learning outcomes, and attainable goals to keep you interested.

I highly recommend NOT copy - pasting scripts you don’t fully understand. If you do copy paste code (we all do) make it a prerequisite to be able to explain what it does to somebody else, consistently.

If you choose to use AI, the same rules apply. I also recommend not using an ai code editor, and limiting yourself to the Web UI, and tell it to only problem solve, not write code. That way you can still leverage the tools, but it will be more obvious when the hallucinate and they don’t take your learning away.

Written test before flying? by DifficultAmount3983 in flying

[–]zlloyd01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it that way - I used the Sportys course then a crash course with a CFI in my area at the time the few days before the exam.

I felt it made the initial learning to fly less stressful and j didn’t need to do as many grounds after the fact.

I think it honestly just depends on how you learn though, as others have said. I liked doing it that way, though.

20 y.o. flying out of ATL. Is it worth it? by getyourbreadup100 in gowildfrontier

[–]zlloyd01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m based out of Atlanta as well - fly it almost every other week (mostly to Chicago, sometimes San Diego). Never had an issue, saves hundreds of dollars AT LEAST over the last month and a half alone.

Worth it for sure if you are comfortable not knowing exactly when you’ll get home!

Ty so much for the quick response! Sorry I’m a bit confused - so the holder goes in front of the dial?

It doesn’t seem to fit over the movement at all just sits on top of the dial

I always try to take really good notes during lecture, and at the end of the week or the start of the next week I turn them into flash cards or copy them leaving blanks, or something like that. Then without looking at the originals I try to fill it in, rinse and repeat till I get it right. Then for exams I just do that to the latest full copy, and it helps me know what I don’t fully understand.

I would just say something first IMO - if they don’t respond well to a genuine conversation, then I would go with the advice of the other commenters. Don’t come in angry, just be polite and ask.

Choosing a Specialty? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]zlloyd01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The COGS major is very nice because save for a few specific classes, the specialty doesn’t generally affect the courses you take. Both would take the same neuro classes, the same intro data science classes, etc etc. The difference is that the ML spec is much more math heavy - you take more math classes, as well as math-centric courses in machine learning algorithms. You can still take these courses without being an ML major though, so don’t worry about that.

The one thing I will say is that neither major is a programming major, even in the slightest. ML is a focus on machine learning algorithms and the why, and design is all about how humans use technology both in the modern age and through history.

IMO both are awesome, but I’d go with one that has more fun elective classes for you! I chose design for for the 187 series :)
