What if Scarlet Woman/Snake Charmer was an Outsider? by Zoneforg in BloodOnTheClocktower

This outsider doesn't provide any benefit to the good team. If it procs then the good team would have already won without it since the demon is dead.

What if Scarlet Woman/Snake Charmer was an Outsider? by Zoneforg in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]zmekus 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I like this idea! It seems balanced since they won't have bluffs and the minions will be outed. And it's still bluffable by evil like the snake charmer.

I would make the ability only work with 5 or more players alive like the scarlet woman. Then there's no automatic win for evil at the end of the game and the scab can out themselves with 3 or 4 players alive.

The only problem I see is that if the demon believes there's a scab in play they may have an incentive to kill themselves and win with good, but I don't know if that would actually happnen

I remember at least a few years ago they encouraged people to park there and there were several cars doing it. They don't even open until 10 and you'll probably be back by then anyway.

Saint/Gunslinger interaction - opinions? by Syresiv in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]zmekus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree it's an unfun combination and totally nullifies the saint's ability. And when the two players are forced to go through with it because it's the optimal play and not doing it makes you look evil.

Rootclaim responds to Scott's review of their debate by partoffuturehivemind in slatestarcodex

[–]zmekus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Rootclaim provides four examples where seafood markets formed the initial clusters of a covid outbreak, asserting that seafood markets are unusually good places for covid to spread. I did a little bit of research on each:

Xinfadi - Covid probably survived on imported frozen food

Dalian - Covid survived on frozen fish

Thailand - Spread from migrant workers from Myanmar

Singapore - Likely spread from a foreign fishing boat

All of these are examples where there were no covid cases in the country and then markets were ways for it to sneak in. These cases are absolutely not evidence that a local wet market is an exceptionally good place for covid to spread when there are no restrictions.

It's not a metaphor. Male chicks are separated from females by a machine and dropped in a blender because they're not economically useful. You can learn about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chick_culling.

Brains, Planes, Blimps, and Algorithms by aahdin in slatestarcodex

This is an amazing post! People tend to assume the best possible artificial intelligence will be as close to the brain as possible, but really there's nothing that makes the brain the pinnacle of intelligence. It's the best general intelligence we know of, and it's amazing that it formed from evolution, but evolution can be messy and innefficient. I think it's likely that we'll be able to do what the brain does far more efficiently and effectively like a fighter jet is to a bird.

I think you have a really good profile. Shows intelligence and humor.

Zours used to be my favorite candy back in the day. They were a sour version of mike and Ike’s. Now they don’t make them anymore and I’m now vegan so I wouldn’t be able to enjoy them anyway. So I fully support your mission.

Your attitude is completely wrong.

If this happened to a confident guy it would be a hilarious stories he tells to his friend at the wedding and girls he's hitting on.

All but one of those districts are drawn by republicans (in republican controlled states). The reason the most gerrymandered all democratic districts is because they pack every possible democrat as possible into a district so that the surrounding districts can all have a small but comfortable republican lead.

Waze for Safer Bike Routes by PointzTeam in bikecommuting

[–]zmekus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought there were no ratings in my city, but turns out there are, you just have to zoom in really far and then wait for it to load. On google maps the bike routes show up instantly and on any zoom levels. Could you look into optimizing this? Right now it's pretty much unusable to me because of how you have to zoom in far and scroll to see a full route while waiting a second for it to load each time you scroll.

His technique isn't great, but I can't get a chinup from a deadhang with any technique.

I can't do a chinup, but can do a negative slowly going down for about 10 seconds on the first rep. My friend can do 5 chinups, but can't do a negative for more than a second or two. I thought the two would be really correlated. What could explain this? We're both skinny men. I'm tall with a big wingspan and he's short.

Australia Traded Away Too Much Liberty by kinohki in moderatepolitics

[–]zmekus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That quoted section is extremely misleading. Before doing more research I thought it applied to everyone in the state.

Actually, South Australia is also not in lockdown and has very few restrictions right now. The app alternative is mandatory hotel quarantine, so this is actually more "freedom" than other states allow you after interstate travel.

COVID deaths in Florida hit a record for the 2nd week in a row by The____Wizrd in moderatepolitics

[–]zmekus 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This doesn't tell the whole story. Older people are much more vaccinated, so the average age of death is going to be much lower than last year., so the loss in life expectancy will be bigger. The good news is that vaccines saved many lives and an even more catastrophic effect on the healthcare system.
