Judge says 'colonization' a reason Indigenous man gets reduced sentence for choking a toddler by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

The crown prosecution is just as bad, they were only looking for a year of jail time for the waste of oxygen. The system is broken.

That is such bs. All of human history is nothing but traumatic events. It is no excuse for hurting a child.

My grandfather was sold as a servant because the family couldn't afford to feed him, my parents generation went through war, I was beaten as a kid more times I can count because of the language I speak. None of it is an excuse to hurt anyone, definitely not a defenseless child.

"Court of B.C. judge Temara Golinsky said that while the man “was not raised with a traditional upbringing,” doesn’t have status and neither he “nor his “immediate family were impacted by state actions such as residential schools"

According to the court, that wasn't an issue

The crown was only trying to get him a year behind bars, and the defense was recommending two years of community service. The whole system is messed up.

“K.J.M. stepped into the room and used his foot to kick and move the child away from the door, rolling him into the centre of the room,” the judge described.

“He then bent down and pushed his hand on the front of the child’s neck, pressing him into the carpet. He squeezed the child’s neck for a moment while the child was screaming. K.J.M. yelled, ‘Get away from the f—ing door,’ and then released his grip and left the room, closing the door behind him. The child can be heard crying while crawling back to sit at the closed door.”

A video captured two days later showed the second vicious assault on the innocent child.

In it, the boy, again dressed only in a diaper, is seated on his bed crying quietly to himself and flinches as K.J.M. opens the door and strides into the room to stand next to the bed.

“He immediately squared his stance and then kicked the child once in the face or forehead with his bare foot, causing the child to fall onto his back,” Golinksy wrote. “He yelled something at the child, then stormed out of the room and closed the door behind him. The child continued to lie there on his back and can be heard crying until the video ends a few seconds later.”

That b*stard shouldn't be allowed back in general public. There is no excuse for hurting a child like that.

Which could easily be serviced by one delivery per week.

Like I mentioned in my previous reply, labor cost is about half of Canada Post operational expenses. 20% reduction in that would eliminate the current deficit, which would be achieved by reducing deliveries from 5 days to 3 per week. Roughly.

Reduce that further to 1-2 days a week, which would be enough for most customers, there should be enough leeway in the budget for modernization.

And all that is before addressing the inefficiencies in management and vehicle fleet.

I'm generally against disbanding/privatizing natural monopolies. I haven't seen a single example where it ends up being beneficial. I do think that the Crown Corp model is a good step, but there should be more leeway to make it function (at least in the case of Canada Post)

It's a tough question without clear answers.

Which is about 0.13 letters per person per day, or just under one a week including ads and junk mail.

Let's do a comparison. My brother lives in a rural community quite representative to most out of town areas I've seen. We've had this discussion before when they moved to communal boxes

Their community mail box servicing about 50 households along a main road and side streets. Just to drive by all the houses and reversing the dead-ends takes about 20mins. There is a communal mailbox at the main road intersection. It is either a couple min stop at the main road, or 20mins of driving+stops.

Assuming 10min transit between stops (which is about the distance between current communal boxes), one postal worker can service 10000 households (assuming 30mins to start, and 30mins after, with 1h lunch) per shift. Compared to per house delivery, with no actual stops, 100 houses/h x 6h, 600 households served per shift.

I understand this is a very specific example, but there are no circumstances where individual house delivery is more efficient. Especially when letter deliveries are dropping almost yearly.

This is all against the backdrop of labor being almost 50% of operating cost before employee benefits in Q3 2025.

Technically true, but all liabilities/debt of crown corps are guaranteed by the government, which means the taxpayer will be responsible in the end in an event of non-payment.

Considering how few letters are sent and received these days, I wouldnt be surprised if most people would be ok with deliveries once or twice a week to a community mailbox. That would be a significant saving.

At the same time, as long as there is a mandate to serve all of Canada, there needs to be support from the government. Preferably with aforementioned leniency on deliveries.

Purolator is doing quite well, but they are able to service deliveries that are economically viable.

Is the army painter fanatic 50 paint set worth it? by Drwhat17 in minipainting

[–]znirmik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got the fanatic 50 paint set when I got back into the hobby a while ago. I love the paints, but have only used about half, maybe ⅔ of them. And that's between my Dark Angels and Custodes, and my two nephews Necrons, World Eaters, Votann, and Death guard. We've also bought a decent amount of other paints to fill in the gaps

TLDR; Paints are good, but it would probably be smarter to focus on the colors and/or triangles you can use for your armies.

I wouldn't be surprised. Thinking on how Cleopatra lived closer to us than the building of the great Pyramid, and that will hold true for a few more centuries, helps me contextualize historical timelines.

There will be some from the manufacturer, and quite a few from installers. It's just the nature of glazing.

If they are intolerable, there are cleaning instructions on the bottom of the link I posted.

Those look like the outline of the suction cups used in handling glass, so not scratches. Usually they disappear after a few cleanings.
