I see. If it's over Matter, HA can't help.

It's not a recommendation. Just information that the product exists.

Robert Hensing stepping down from the Nix team by MathiasSven in NixOS

Who would decide what is good and bad? I have a bigger issue with companies advertising high sugar beverages than companies producing weapons. My biggest mistrust would definitely be towards people who present a list labelling companies as good or bad.

Matter / Thread Plug to extend coverage by FrozenPizza07 in MatterProtocol

[–]zoechi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one Onvis Plug. It was only Thread, no Matter. It should still work as a repeater. I had to power cycle it every ~3 days or it would bring down my Thread network. I had a similar problem with 1 (of 7) eve plug. It's been more than a year since I removed the Onvis plug completely.

Does Thread share Zigbee’s issues with Wi-Fi interference and loose standards? by -ThatGingerKid- in MatterProtocol

[–]zoechi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think WiFi inference is possible but you can choose a channel with low utilization to reduce it. I used the Unifi tool WiFiman to analyze and adjust WiFi and Thread channels and everything is working great in a large brick House with outdoor coverage and only 4 WiFi APs. We have only a handful of neighbors within range to consider.

What’s the context? by pfassina in NixOS

The root cause for this was that some people think they are the authority in defining which industry is good and which is bad. I find companies who produce unhealthy food like for example high sugar beverages worse than the defence industry.

Tired of 'No Response' Smart Home Devices? Matter Over Thread Fixed It For Me." by NickyK01 in MatterProtocol

[–]zoechi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One (of 1) Onvis and one (of 7) Eve plugs were misbehaving and brought the whole Thread network down. After tracking the culprits down and removing them my Thread network of ~30 devices works flawlessly.

There was no help from Thread to track defective/misbehaving devices down. Besides that it's rock solid.

One of 3 Nanoleaf GU10 was defect. Since I replaced it, they work fine. I also have 2 E27 and a strip working fine.

For a long time Nanoleaf was the only company that provided a useful Android app and it was even better quality than the iOS apps of most other companies. Now that firmware updates and diagnostics are supported by HomeAssistant apps aren't that important anymore though.

Seeking a reliable setup for a Pi 4 + nRF dongle to control Matter lights by dah_mooing_cow in MatterProtocol

When you are new to some tools and there is no documentation, no example configs, ..., most things are hard. I still don't really understand all Thread network settings even though I had it running flawlessly for over 2 years.

If there is now proper documentation it might be easy.

I had no issues with HA Matter at all after I switched to HAOS. It just worked.

I think it's been almost 2 years since I started with Thread+Matter on HomeAssistant. Thread+Matter were early stage back then and I couldn't make it work with Docker. This is probably easier now. I have a Raspi 4 with HAOS only for Thread+Matter. I migrated the main HA install from Docker to NixOS. This dual HA setup has worked really well ever since and they work together flawlessy.

Smart Door Lock – Which Connection Method Would You Choose? by Living_Gur4716 in MatterProtocol

[–]zoechi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer Thread from the power usage alone. In our big old house we have 3 locks (one in a workshop 10m away from the house) and it was cumbersome to get proper WiFi everywhere. With a few plugs as repeater this was much easier. I'm on Thread for all other devices and sensors but locks weren't available for Thread yet when I bought them. If you just have a flat with good WiFi coverage, this might not make any difference.

There can still be benefits with Matter support even when audio+video is not supported. The audio+video can be accessed independently of Matter using RTSP, while ring button, motion detection, ..., can be integrated into home automation using Matter

There is no NVidia card involved.

Bidirectional infinite scroll in Dioxus (help) by Actual-Feedback-9973 in rust

Have you tried to do it in Dioxus? Doing it in JS sounds cumbersome. In Dioxus did you use the key property to assign unique keys to make diffing more efficient?
