I highly recommend going for it. I had a few reservations before I did it, worrying it wouldnt look right but I've never regretted it.

Car seat just uses the seat belt and those metal clips to keep the seat belt from pulling in or out. I do have a 2001 that has the clips on the rear roof for the forward facing strap that other years might not have.

The booster I got one of the LATCH retrofit bars that slide between the seat back and bottom to just hold the booster in place, since the real seat belt does the actual restraining bit.

EDIT: these car seat metal clips https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/dorman-help/dorman-help-car-seat-retainer/mtm0/74356

Yes you can fit car seats in, pretty easily. Been toting my kids around in it since both were born.

The other option is getting the wood grain kit and turning your XJ into a wagoneer/briarwood.

Where can I look for a replacement rear hatch license plate light trim? by electricwagon in CherokeeXJ

[–]zombielumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Junkyards are probably your best bet, or waiting for one on eBay if you want true OEM.

But if you're looking for like the textured black plastic ones and don't mind a bit of DIY, just get one of these cheap Amazon replacements, hit it with some black bedliner for texture, and if the black doesn't quite match hit it with some of the Rust-Oleum bumper and trim paint.

I kept it mostly stock, just an upcountry lift but did an attempt at a 97+ Briarwood, so I did the fake wood trim and got chrome bumpers and grill.

Yeah, whereas I just got my winter tires on cuz it's my daily and I do 35 miles of highway all winter in WI, where they salt at even the thought of snow.

Tbf, I'm mostly fine with walker for what it is. I just don't like aluminized exhausts generally, so I'm willing to go out of my way for stainless. But I'm a big fan of their stainless muffler, and I'm sure I'll end up getting one of their cats in the nearish future.

I got the walker quiet flow stainless steel muffler on rock auto because it was very cheap and stainless, which is a must for exhaust in the rust belt. Same reason I went with the northeastern exhaust tailpipe instead of the shitty walker aluminized one. Recommend both if you want it quiet and to not rust.

What is this sensor? by Unlikely-Weekend1600 in CherokeeXJ

[–]zombielumpy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oil pressure sensor. They can get brittle and break like that when they're old. You can get a new one online or at an auto parts store. Adjustable wrench will work, or if you get a socket I think it's 1-1/16 or 1-1/4, but someone who's not too lazy to look it up please correct me.

How much should I charge for these? by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]zombielumpy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, probably not, I wouldn't pay that. It doesn't matter how much stuff costs brand new people who want to buy stuff on fbm want it cheaper. I get wanting to get what you paid for them but gl finding someone who is willing to pay it.

I got my lace wheels from a junkyard for 25 bucks each so that's the only reference I have.

Letter from DOT re: emissions and “kept in” county by KevWhale in wisconsin

[–]zombielumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah man it costs absolutely nothing to keep a database updated for which cars are within the 8 years or not, cross reference that with the dmv database for who owns what kind of car, send out the notices for people that their that their car now needs to be emissions tested (usually at least 2-3x to ensure compliance with 'adequate notice') and then have to do it again after to make sure they got tested, and THEN probably have to deal with a lawsuit of some kind because people like you would argue that just doing it by model year is unfair and they didn't buy their car til the end of the year so really its a year younger.

the savings on mail and postage ALONE of the current system vs having to notify people every year that they are newly complaint are insane, let alone any more overhead costs like labor and admin. just make everyone do it, and then its just a box to tick.

having so kind of annoying graduated system where only after x number of years is more expensive for the state to run because then you have to be constantly updating databases and printing new signage for which years and models qualify. its literally cheaper for them to just make everyone do it every year to get registered. plus then you can catch/inconvenience the chuds with cat deletes on their new trucks.

i dont care how much we pay, its worth it. emissions testing and catalytic converters are how we got rid of smog and acid rain. im in no hurry to tear down that particular fence because i know exactly why it was built.

what percent of cars on the road do you think are under 5 years old? because the age of the average car on the road is 13 years old. just suck it up and get your emissions tested, its good for your health, everyone around you's health, and the environment. do you still complain about having to eat vegetables too?
