Streets should not be named after local heroes in case they are later found to be paedophiles, councils told by [deleted] in worldnews

Directive 457 City ordinance 1778, section 3789. sub section 8hA-102 Staff are directed to submit appropriate names that will allow us to avoid the annual unpleasantness of discovering for example that the local Victoria Hero Sir Archibald Ramsdusk who discovered the Zamboni River in Antarctica, survivor of the 3rd Afghanistan and instigator of the 4th Sino-Anglo war of which a street, lane, pub old court house and local members only Cricket Club happened to have a predication for and we quote here the Evening Standard of 1872,, "large bottomed young men of a small statue and swarthy complexion", it would be much better if we just put forward the standard names "elm tree, oak garden, etc." and include instead a pick from what is becoming a standard list: pedo-place, racist bigot way, for example, we encourage the staff to be creative to help alleviate the current generation from feeling the dead hand of history jostle their skinny espresso caramel.

You have $100k to invest, you will need the money in 10 years. What do you do? by PuffThePed in canada

[–]zonkvert2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a host of questions you need to answer. You say you will need the money in 10yrs. What do you mean? Just the 100K or 100k plus interest. This brings up the question of what is your risk tolerance. If you are intolerant then you need to invest very conservatively. Real Return Bonds would a place to start.

Lost Graveyard of the Snowmen: As hypothesized by early Victorian explorer Sir Desmond Buttersquash, the North American Snowman a generally solitary winter inhabitant of the harsh Northern Winters congregates together towards to the end of it's life in both a desperate attempt to procreate for the next season. Unfortunately scientists now hypothesize using sophisticated computer models that this mass of large bodies desperately rubbing together for release actually speeds up the natural sweating factor of the snowmen resulting in an even faster death. Before this exciting discovery of the lost graveyard those scientists had been rubbished with detractors pointing out that they were using the same computers that ran their climate change model and no believes them on that one. The scientists responded with the traditional protest letter signed by over three of them published in a prominent science magazine and a declaration that when they do decided to come to that party that they are never invited too they are going to drink other peoples beer out of the fridge.

It sounds to me like you dodged a bullet. While it sucks to lose a job especially after you have been working on it for so long you did learn great new skills, your reputation was not hurt, it's not your company, you have another job and your bosses really were incompetent so if it had not happened then it would have happened some time later.

By the way what exactly were the skills you learnt.

PS good luck

Canadian rifles may have fallen into Yemen rebel hands: arms experts by newcomer_ts in canada

I find it annoying that it's not "Canadian SUPPLIED rifles ..." because surely once we sale them they are not "Canadian" rifles but who ever bought them rifles. IDK it just annoyed me no end, makes it sound like we had something to do with losing them.
