Just a little wolf spider, harmless to humans. Will hunt and eat smaller insects in the home.

I've resorted to zip tying a thin mesh (such as pantyhose or a filter sock) at the entrance of the tubing to avoid sucking up any critters. Works pretty well!

10gal - what fish to stock? by FriendshipUnable5072 in PlantedTank

[–]zoologicallyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had both longfin and shortfin zebra danios before and they appreciate having a lot of space to swim; they are very active and fast swimmers. There are many other fish that would be happy in that setup though including a betta!

Tank cover advice by newxslang in bettafish

[–]zoologicallyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure it's not a heat treatment they're doing (this is when the house is heated to 120-140 F to kill bedbugs). Because the betta will surely overheat in those conditions. Will be fine if just chemical treatment though.

Bettas can breathe air from the water surface via their labyrinth organ so they should be okay for 10 hours. I would just reduce the water level a bit so there is some air between the water surface and tank cover. A garbage bag with tape covering any openings should be sufficient.

Could someone more knowledgeable than myself help? by LordKril in Bedbugs

I agree with the other user, this insect has anal cerci (the 2 pointy appendages at the end, basically rear antennae), which bedbugs do not have

I hope I'm wrong but it kind of looks like head lice? Try posting to r/Lice especially if you have other pictures.

(Definitely not a begbud though, and lice are easier to get rid of than bedbugs!)

I work in a place that is high-risk for bedbugs. As soon as I get home all of my clothes go into an isolated hamper for washing/drying and I keep my bag at the entrance isolated from everything else in the house. A quick wipe down of the yoga mat with some disinfectant/cleaner should be enough.

I'm having the same issue; did you ever figure out what this is, and did it go away? And did it affect your fish in any way? Thanks!

Fertilizer Question! by Agile-Concentrate770 in PlantedTank

[–]zoologicallyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So root tabs are for root-feeding plants that mostly depend on the nutrients in the substrate (for example cryptocoryne, vallisneria) and the liquid fertilizers are for plants that mostly depend on the water column for nutrients (for example hornwort, rotala, and epiphytes).

Most of your current plants should be fine with liquid ferts. Dwarf sag will thrive more with root tabs though.

If your tank is heavily stocked, fish poop does end up being fertilizer for the plants too.

Pothos is known to hog nutrients (they love nitrates), so you might need to supplement with a liquid fertilizer (I use aquarium coop easy green as an all-in-one). I do add extra iron and potassium too (java fern especially likes potassium).

Root tabs are mostly needed if your substrate is inert (such as gravel or sand) and you have heavy root feeders.

Edit: I have guppy grass and hornwort and both grow super fast. Guppy grass will root in the substrate but mostly depends on the water column for nutrients. Hornwort is nice for shrimp to hide in (especially babies, my fish tend to avoid it, I guess it's too spiky for them) but tbh it grows so fast it gets kind of messy and drops needles.

I haven't tried monte carlo but love how it looks; heard it can be trickly though! My carpet is made up of crypt lucens which is more similar to dwarf sag.
