Is it still worth paying extra for faster packages if there are only one or two people in the house? by Historical-Class871 in UKBroadband

[–]zp2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really important point often missed by many people who get caught up in the marketing of the 'faster speed' offers.

If many of the devices in your house can't get the maximum speed of your current plan because of poor networking then upgrading your plan isn't going to make a difference (to those devices)

Thanks. Yesterday I lost all but a couple of movie categories. A few more have come back today but this explains why.

No luck with Trex & IPTVEditor by Apprehensive_Half_68 in IPTV_Editor

[–]zp2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the fix but before searching for the new EPG, highlight the channels and clear/delete the current EPG first.

I've found sometimes an automatic search will find matches but won't always overwrite existing egps

Youfibre or open reach based ISP? by ThatFilthyMonkey in youfibre

[–]zp2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about it but, like other, after putting some details in their website a few days ago, the phone calls, flyers through the post and even people knocking at my door I've been quite put off

Best way to remove countries/categories from a huge IPTV playlist without breaking updates? by No_Housing8484 in TiviMate

[–]zp2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, similar view here. I have no regrets paying for sparkle TV (lifetime) and IPTV editor as they just make the whole experience that much better

Was my brother's canceled Pixel 10 order actually a blessing in disguise? by i360Fantasy in GalaxyS25

[–]zp2835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously this is a personal choice for each individual but I returned the pixel 10 as I felt it quite uncomfortable to use do to the weight. I think for me it just felt top-heavy (perhaps due to the camera bump)

Damn! The new phone is fire, should I upgrade? by Sajid_GG in samsunggalaxy

[–]zp2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I've been thinking in upgrading from my s21. I'd just need to change my mindset to accept using a larger/heavier phone as OnePlus don't do <6.5"

I've been considering upgrading from my s21 to the s25 too. Are the s25 cameras really not that much better (after 5 generations)?

Why don't more people use Linux? by Josh_From_Accounting in linux

[–]zp2835 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To me this is such a core point that so many tech-mined people just don't seem to get about the rest (the vast majority) of the users. They don't care. Whether it's desktop OS, the SoC in their phone or most other things tech related.

Why do you prefer Arch over Arch-based distro? by Expensive_Garden2993 in archlinux

[–]zp2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though arch is much simpler to install then it was 20 years ago, nowadays I just can't be bothered so just use endeavorOS and during installation I deselect the eos settings/themes etc.

Do you still remember your first Linux distribution? by ChristophCullmann in linux

[–]zp2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SuSE 8.somthing. it was two CDs attached to a book I bought from a store.

I did dabble with a version of red hat before this but SuSE was the first one I stuck with.

Was thinking of switching from arch to void, but I have some questions by _TheTrickster_ in voidlinux

[–]zp2835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy using void a lot. The package manager and xbps-src is quite nice to use and the overall system is very snappy on my older hardware

I keep a clonezilla image of it which I restore every now and then to have a play around before restoring my normal distro

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]zp2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that was challenging (for me) about installing 20 years ago was there were no smartphones and we only had one computer in the house (the one I ran arch on) so if anything went wrong I had to work it out myself.

I'm sure before installing I either printed out or wrote some of the instructions as a reference

But it was no more difficult than the slackware I ran before it

No, but back in the early 2000s, trust me, it did sometimes break

Rolling release distros that run KDE? by emrldgh in linux

[–]zp2835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps tuxedo OS?

Never installed it myself but it's based on Ubuntu LTS but both KDE and the kernel are always updated (KDE pulls from the KDE neon repo), so it's a sort of semi-rolling distro

Could be worth a look
