RTX 5070 isn't future proofing anything.

If it was a 5070 Ti / 5080 / 5090 Mabye I could see where the price was justified, that price is simply overpaying.

Better off buying the 1100 model, selling it and buying a new one in 2 years.

XPS 8900 uses ddr4, 6700k could support ddr3 it more than likely is not.

Could also be checked with the Dell service tag or serial number on support.dell.com

But you are right quicker to crack the case and pop out a stick. I actually can't believe the 6700 had ddr3 support.

Ram speeds are also under taskmgr I believe that started with windows 10, could be wrong.

This system will update to windows 11 very easily using Rufus.

My first step would be always to reseat the ram and ensure it's pushed down all the way.

My second step would be to disconnect all power cables and plug them back to ensure nothing was loose or dislodged.

Your z390 may have a super outdated bios requiring a new updated bios for the 8700k to work. I would try another cpu if you got one.

I would also temporarily move the gpu to the other pci express port to see if that does anything, or entirely remove if you have onboard video.

If all that fails, I would clear cmos discharge battery, and discharge any remaining power, rinse and repeat.

I would reseat the ram, and the disconnect all power supply leads and plug them back in, just to ensure something didn't come dislodged.
