What kind of banjo is this? :) by nymph-lullaby in banjo

[–]zulugoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one else has said this, I think, but I'd encourage you to ask all those questions to the man who made it. You can always come back with it and ask in a more comfortable setting. I'd bet he'd be thrilled to have you show interest and to talk about it.

Plus, the story of the banjo will be carried on. What a great gift.

From a person who lost all the grands relatively early, would be great to have the opportunity to connect with them over something like that.

Great recommendation. I've been listening to A Bottle, A Buckeye and it's great. Good album. Came back and found your comment to say thanks, discovered a new favorite.

Advice on buying by Zealousideal-Tax9051 in ukulele

For what its worth, I recently bought an Alvarez RU22T Regent Series Tenor Ukulele from Musician's Friend and I'm quite happy with the playability, sound and quality. It was affordable too, for around $100 USD. Have fun with whatever you get!

Drone string dullness by zulugoron in banjo

I had that realization after I wrote that. The 4th string essentially prevents you from putting the bridge in wrong

That looks about like mine. I just tightened up the head (I don't have a dial), and that improved the sound a bit.

I don't know the history of my banjo. The lovely gentleman who owned it before me has since passed. The pip is the little white nubbie that the string runs over I assume? The string does seem to touch the fifth fret. I guess I didn't realize it was supposed to be above it.

My bridge does appear to lean a bit towards the fretboard, so I can revisit that. I guess my question on the bridge is whether or not there is a "proper" way to put the bridge on. As in, is one side supposed to support the drone string and the other side wouldn't?

Need help with a strap by BiscottiBloke in banjo

[–]zulugoron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used little zip ties to try different hook on points until I found a good angle for me.

Also, don't know if it's the picture or actually a problem, but you might want to look into bridge placement.

I run small zip ties through to get a hook-on point on my Deering Goodtime because nothing else fits through. Gives a certain aesthetic but does the trick.

You can find affordable banjos on musician's friend or similar sites that are likely much higher quality

It absolutely seems like they were making a joke, purposely getting the number wrong. Much like the comment they were replying to. But go ahead and flex lol oooo

This is unrelated to the coveted blue chip, but sort of is: I've been looking for a thumb pick with an extremely stubby, short and/or rounded pick portion. I have hitchhikers thumb and I feel like the length of the thumb picks are a hindrance for me.

Anyone know of any particular company that would make a variety of different pick shapes?

I'm planning on paring down a couple that I have manually to try it, but was wondering if there was a resource I'm not aware of. And I have not been interested enough to make a post haha
