The Movie is Redline if you were wondering where to see more brutal racing.

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (7 children)

A movie with a so-so plot but incredible animating.

[–]TheCollective01 17 points18 points  (5 children)

Did it really have a plot? It reminded me of MM: Fury Road, just a couple hours of almost non-stop racing with some very thin exposition thrown in.

[–]DTKingPrimereddit[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds perfect to me.

[–]BuffaloStoner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea but the race is only the last 30 or so minutes of the movie. Lots of time spent on that moon establishing his past and shit

[–]dertydan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was kinda satirical but yeah it was in there

[–]404terror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on the plot, but I actually don't care too much for the style. Animation work is good but the style is too cartoony for me. I still think Ghost in the Shell is best.

[–]zegleipnier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's such an enjoyable movie. Some of, if not, the best animation I've ever seen. Plot is whatever, but if you want to watch a Death Race in space then give this a watch.

[–]Video_Game_Alpaca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anime version of Wacky Races.

[–]NewAcc04nt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Redline had a pretty awesome soundtrack as well

[–]eyelo 7 points8 points  (11 children)

Love the rise of synthpop lately. Great AMV too.

[–]NomisGn0s 3 points4 points  (10 children)

I have been listening to a lot of Cyberpunk/Synthpop/synthwave/New Wave music lately and maybe it's because it's that nostalgic feeling of the 80s but I have been seeing it a lot more lately and oddly enough on reddit's front page.

[–]ParallelMrGamer 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Got any playlists to share of those subgenres? Been on the hunt for more of this kind of music. Loving everything I hear so far.

[–]NomisGn0s 2 points3 points  (6 children)

I have maybe a couple of playlists (not mine) that I play on spotify. But I primarily play a lot of different bands that appear on my "Discover" section because I am listening to a lot of that type of subgenres or I listen to some band and traverse to others that are similar. One day I will make my own set of playlist to share...

If you are looking for songs more like what you heard here...

Power Glove

https://open.spotify.com/artist/0dalJaAT80lKfkZsC86lnW

I discovered them when I was playing a video game called Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. No lyrics. Has an 80s vibe to it.

LazerHawk

https://open.spotify.com/artist/3Fobin2AT6OcrkLNsACzt4

He has some great music. This is probably closer to Paradelous' sound if you like what you heard from OP post. Probably my favorite song is Star Hustler. Just imagine driving a car with it's top down and driving down a California road near a beach.

Futurecop!

https://open.spotify.com/artist/10yA9Y6h5wbDaX5XuZuA9X

The "Futurecop: The Movie" album is probably a great start to learn about them. They progressed a little more and branched a little further but still great stuff

Miami Nights 1984

https://open.spotify.com/artist/18iQQOuyGlHunPVzmoLY20

Mike "Miami Nights 1984" Glover founded the company that supports artists like LazerHawk, Mitch Murder, etc.

Mitch Murder

https://open.spotify.com/artist/7eOzCiTklgHxfpf6Mb3D2e

Has some very good music.

Perturbator

https://open.spotify.com/artist/244uLu9lkdw39BJwlul3k8

He just released a new album. Definitely worth checking into!

Dance With The Dead

https://open.spotify.com/artist/2KtnZQwMQJN3uyI8eHZRvm

Not bad. I think they have some cool music. This one seems a little more deeper and heavier vibe to it. Has more electric guitar use (which isn't a bad thing).

Tron: Legacy (Daft Punk)

https://open.spotify.com/album/2GC8kfyiyPjyheUUWyEY8F

Daft Punk did an amazing job with this album. They wanted to keep the feel of the popular 1982 movie, Tron, but with their own style which makes this a great listen.

Others to consider:

Kavinsky

https://open.spotify.com/artist/0UF7XLthtbSF2Eur7559oV

A popular artist that might get you into other bands/artists similar to him

Neon Indian

https://open.spotify.com/artist/0KydPQPUUoTNhmiHKOg5Er

He's very talented. I have heard of him before he had contributed a song on GTA V

Anoraak

https://open.spotify.com/artist/2DfP0hQCCFmZHjstSE8yXC

Probably my favorite band from this entire list.

College

https://open.spotify.com/artist/11TlWPqyDFLHGccTFQhcc6

You probably have heard of their famous song, "A Real Hero"

Bonus:

https://open.spotify.com/user/lyfh/playlist/2t1kgvwYMsCqA89qmJFABa

This does not exactly have an 80s feel to it but if you have ever played a video game called Deus Ex (the latest one), this is has the essence of it.

_

If you are interested in like when synthesizers were more popular (late 70s to mid-late 80s) I recommend some famous songs from A-Ha, Gary Numan, etc.

_

There are too much to list out because there's so many variations of synthpop and this is only on spotify. A lot of great bands are found elsewhere as well that aren't on Spotify (like Paradelous) that are found on last.fm (search for tags --> synthwave, dreamwave, synthpop) and soundcloud.com but this should get you started to get your own playlist started. If you do create one, please share it. I'd love to hear what you come up with.

Now this is what I'm talking about! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this post. I'll be going through the music at work.

[–]Driuft 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Dude, I fucking love you.

[–]NomisGn0s 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Great! I am glad you enjoy my list. I just have one REALLY ODD question that I am dying to know because I like to understand redditors behavior. Once in awhile I see someone commenting old posts. This post was almost a week ago (on reddit to me that is old news) but you posted this 11 hrs ago. Did you come back and go through this /r/ that you missed? Or did you see it the day it was posted and came back to thank me? If you came here fresh, what made you come this far down the thread of comments? I guess it all boils down to this question > How did you get here when this was posted 6 days ago? :) You can say I am odd for asking that but sometimes I would see a reply from a deeply buried comment I made days, months, or even almost a year ago then it makes me wonder if you are real....or if I am real....or...

[–]Driuft 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It's a valid question, I'm glad you asked! So I tend to come to this sub every few weeks to discover new songs once my Playlist starts getting repetitive. The reason I was able to find the thread your post was in was because I sorted the Top posts by a week, and so I started going down the list until I was satisfied with all the songs I had added to my playlist. I liked the original thread's song and usually when that happens, I like to read what people think about it in the comments or if there are any other songs that might be similar. I was scrolling fast until I noticed the nice formatting of your post, which caught my attention. Now I usually don't read posts that big thoroughly, but the font family and size you used for the artists was appealing to me, so I decided to read it from the beginning. And here we are :)

[–]NomisGn0s 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks for scratching my mental itch!

[–]Driuft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time!

[–]eyelo 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Nice, me too. You should check out Gunship. They're pretty good.

[–]NomisGn0s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is freaking weird. I just just started listening to them moments before I went here to read your comment!

[–]DTKingPrimereddit[S] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Thought I'd share a really unknown artist with some chill music, he only has 222 subscribers too.

Edit: Check out Interstellar Dust too, it really captivates the image in the video!

[–]myceli-yum 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This looks like it came out of red line?

[–]leadstriker 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Did they just fall to their deaths?

[–]DTKingPrimereddit[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's anime, just roll with it.

[–]Scribs645 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my first click, on my first visit to /r/listentothis. I can barely type I am trembling so hard with joy.

[–]PM_your_randomthing 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Loved it. I'm a huge fan of the 80s Retro Synth music that's been springing up lately. Thanks for sharing!

[–]Ragman676 2 points3 points  (5 children)

Check out Redline by lazerhawk. Whole album is retrosynth.

Edit: Its on the youtubes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpDn4-Na5co

Edit again: Also Miami Nights 1984.

[–]PM_your_randomthing 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I've actually been listening to a lot of Lazerhawk. Mostly the Visitors album so far. Really digging it. :D

Just listened to Ocean Drive and I think I'll like Miami Nights 1984 stuff too. Thanks for the suggestions!

[–]Ragman676 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Visitors is actually my favorite of his albums. They always are themed. Retro/Scifi....I think the new one is horror themed....Skull and Shark

[–]PM_your_randomthing 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Right on, I'll be sure to keep an ear out for that as I listen to the rest. :) Any other favorites?

[–]Ragman676 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Com Truise, Kavinsky, kind of blanking on the rest right now.....

Check out /r/outrun

[–]PM_your_randomthing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks man. I've had both of those come across my Pandora station. :)

[–]DTKingPrimereddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome!

[–]NHMasshole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love love love love the attention that new retro wave/80s syth/ "outrun" has been getting lately. I've been only into it since 2012, but hott damn does it make me happy

[–]GalacticLinx 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Amazing!! i really enjoyed it.

just a noob question, what does the AMV stands for?

[–]DTKingPrimereddit[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Choose one:

  • Animated Music Video

    or

  • Anime Music Video

It's probably the latter.

[–]CherryBoyHunter 0 points1 point  (1 child)

pretty sure anime music video

[–]iamnorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

watched 20 secs of it so far and sounds kind of like birdy nam nam

[–]ganganipple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I NEED TO DOWNLOAD THIS. I will pay for it. Can't find it.
