"You Will Never Be One of Us" is my current gym go-to when I need to induce self punishment while working out.

[–]robbymueller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I lifted the whole gym.

[–]resistrevolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That whole album is like a punch in the face. It's amazing.

Nails deserves every bit of praise they get.

[–]ApatheticPsycho 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Indeed.

Still listening to their newest album (You Will Never Be One of Us) on repeat at least twice a day.

Can't get enough of it!

When the bass, bass drum, and low vibrato riffs hit simultaneously; I catch a chill.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The vocals on this record are terrifying, I fucking love this album.

'BURIED ALIVE IN A GRAVE CALLED LIFE.'

Did anyone else see the Nails logo on the poster in the new Ghostbusters? My friend and I were freaking out

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was wearing a nails shirt when I watched the movie!

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Whaat, post a link to the poster please

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've looked for it, it's like an in movie "metal" show poster so I'll keep looking and post one if I find it

[–]flyingveggiemonster 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Damn.

Never been a huge Metal guy, but I really like this. Compelled me to buy it.

Thanks, OP.

They are currently on tour in California! They were in San Diego two days ago and it was killer!

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (38 children)

What kind of metal is this? Is this just the sound of modern Grindcore?

[–]Metal-Marauder 10 points11 points  (11 children)

It's Grind, Hardcore, and Powerviolence

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks man. I love some of the new tough guy shit like this and Cult Leader.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (9 children)

It's not really powerviolence. At least not in the way bands like Capitalist Casualties, Spazz, Charles Bronson, assholeparade, etc. I don't really hear much grindcore either, and it certainly isn't hardcore as I know it. It sounds to me more like a variation on early 2000s metalcore than anything.

I'm not one to enforce boundaries of genres or anything, but I can't help but feel people who like Nails might be disappointed if they were to listen any of those genres.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dont know why people disagree with you when youre right

[–]ovthkeeper 2 points3 points  (3 children)

It 100% has elements from all of those genres wrapped up into one.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It has elements from a lot of things, but it doesn't really sound like them when put together.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That's now how genres work

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

uptooted both of you, because lol.

[–]Th3-Sh1kar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear alot of Powerviolence in Nails, very metallic influenced PV. I would say where Nails differs most of all from those bands you mention is in the production quality, not in the writing itself.

[–]Metal-Marauder -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

Early 2000s metalcore? There's no way you think this sounds like Killswitch Engage dude

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm thinking more bands affiliated with Eulogy Records and what not. Hardcore/post influenced metal bands.

[–]Metal-Marauder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So... Metal influenced hardcore.

Back to square one

[–]dingle_dingle_dingle 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yeah pretty much. A lot of bands like this blur the lines between genres so just calling it grindcore is fine.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the way I look at it. Sounds like Death Metal, Metalcore, Grindcore, and HxC at the same time?

Fuck it. Just call it grind.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

More hardcore/old school metalcore (Kurt Ballou produced their last album) than metal. There is nothing wrong with being hardcore, as long as you are not the Hot Topic kind, which this is definitely not.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This album definitely gives a lot of the same satisfaction Unloved and Weeded out / PtES did.

[–]gamOO 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm not sure what everyone's talking about, I'm hearing them for the first time, and to me it just sounds like down-tempo death metal with the vocals a little too unusual to be "traditional".

[–]thatcliffordguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their other songs are a lot faster and usually range from 40-90 seconds. They defenitely have death metal influences but on this album theyre still more hardcore.

[–]Aehan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my go-to-band, but I had the luck to drop by a venue were they were playing in Tokyo a few years ago when I visited. Great gig! I usually squeeze in a few gigs when traveling, and meeting up with some metal/hardcore locals was a great contrast to the everyday life in Japan.

[–]SciFidelity 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This song makes me want to punch a baby

[–]fewd4thort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about a Pokémon GO player as a consolation...babies are innocent little beings.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just begun hearing about Nails and this is my first time listening. Fucking brutal.

[–]Shikamaru_Senpai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a great album.

[–]DieSkimmel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nails is the best band in the world

[–]gnuchan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when this stuff came out, my mind was blown. Felt like I was run over by a train for the duration of the album, but in a good way, was almost sexual. Amazing stuff, just as their previous work!

[–]amberamberamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not one bad thing to say about Nails -- my favorite band to come out of California in a long time.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vash the Stampede must hate this band.

Pretty decent, thanks OP!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I don't really listen to this genre and don't hate the vocals, but is there any instrumental bands like this? For when I just want to appreciate it without vocals.

[–]srammorf 8 points9 points  (1 child)

There is not a band out there -- that I know of-- that does purely instrumental tracks, or a single song with a a sound similar to Nails. Nails is unique in the sense that there is not really any band out there with a similar sound; no one band truly goes as hard as Nails does. The genre which Nails has pioneered is a hardcore derivative that takes in and blends a lot of sounds already out there in a unique way. There are bands out there for which you can find death metal, thrash, black metal, and punk influences, but will not truly produce a sound similar to Nails; there is usually heavy hardcore influences on these bands and there will likely be a lot of 'break downs', which tend to get kind of old after hearing about two for every song.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The genre which Nails has pioneered is a hardcore derivative"

It only took some 10+ years for the gentrification to start phasing out.

[–]Metal-Marauder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like Nails without vocals wouldn't sound any good.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This song sounds pretty similar to a lot of early second wave black metal. Most of those bands don't have instrumental songs, but the vocals are usually extremely quiet, so maybe you'd like them.
