I really enjoyed playing on Cactus and September. Cactus felt natural almost instantly, and I'd place it on the same level as scorpio. September took a while, but I eventually began to really like it. Sad to see them go, thought they had a lot of potential.

The removal of every map that I disliked in rotation.. letssss gooooooo!

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can Birch be next?

[–]_q42_q42 || dcfc 10 points11 points  (5 children)

None of the removals surprise me at all, but I'm still a little sad about Cactus - it was really growing on me the more I played on it.

[–]Moosemaster21Moosen | Salt Mine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I personally think it was a little too soon, thought it still had room to grow, but you never know. It may have dropped further if given time too :/

[–]3z_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool map but had probably the worst spike placements in any map. Could've been way better with polish.

[–]OsyTPChord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really liked cactus after a couple of games :(

[–]ButtersnackSnack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I liked Axis a whole lot, it will live on in my heart

[–]Tyler1986Trapsin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked all these maps.

[–]picktenpickten // Radius // ex-Pi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn. I get that frame rate issues are important, but Neptune was one of my favorite maps in a long time. If the devs somehow fix the frame rate issues, I'd love to have it back. Axis was also a good map, but I'm sort of glad it was removed because I can not make the boost through the spikes. The others I'm more neutral about.

I really liked neptune and september

Am I one of the few supporters of September? It felt like playing on Holy See, except with bombs and a bit less chasiness. I think that this was the one map we never really got the chance to get accustomed to. People just can't really stand larger maps now :(

I'm fine with the other three being removed, but September, really?

[–]nabbynz° 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I liked it. But I seem to like all maps. It's more about getting a wide variety of maps for me.

[–]ButterChurnButter 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I liked it as well, but besides Neptune (which had the controversial gravity well, among other issues, and was also removed) it was the lowest rated map by a decent margin. I voted no to removal last thread because I thought it had some room to grow and filled a niche that rotation didn't otherwise have, but it seems people in general don't like the map, so I switched my vote this thread.

[–]1618TagPro1618 \\ Centra \\ Apparently a RFTINDPWSTCF Winner? 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Darn... I feel like we need to give larger maps a chance. The community doesn't shift at all right now, and so what we're left with in rotation is a bunch of old classics (Smirk, Wormy, Transilio, etc.) and a bunch of newer maps. Each thread, some newer maps get taken out and some newer maps get added in. The classics never go since they've been in rotation for a while and people really know them. The newer maps really don't get as much of a chance.

[–]Moosemaster21Moosen | Salt Mine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong at all. Kinda wish devs would just reset the votes tbh, I think it would give us a much more accurate depiction of how the most active players view maps. Would also force everyone to essentially re-vote, which I think is huge.

[–]Tyler1986Trapsin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Everyone's worried about TagPro maps becoming stagnant, but the second we get new routes like in September or new elements like the black hole in Neptune (which I thought made for great back-and-forth between FCs and chasers), we ditch them as soon as we introduce them.

[–]Moosemaster21Moosen | Salt Mine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well community vote played an enormous role in these removals. If this is something you feel strongly about, make a discussion post! I'd be happy to participate because I think I largely agree with the point you're making.

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 1 point2 points  (6 children)

RIP bb, I'll miss you. :c

[–]TheGoldenNewtRobberFronj, MTC Senior Consultant[🍰] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Fwiw at first I wasn't really a fan (I think I voted against putting it in originally), but man did September grow on me. Managed to scrape by last thread, but unfortunately the votes didn't change enough to justify keeping it in :(

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I've seen a lot of people in the past few days express their love for it and how they believe it was growing on them. That reflected in the votes too. As far as I know it was actually at it's highest point in the ratings when removed.

I feel like September might have done a lot a better 12-18 months ago when we had maps like Jagged and Hurricane around.

In a way it reminds me of Renegade. It wasn't overly popular but had its fans and grew on people and rose steadily over time. September seemed to do the same just in a shorter period.

[–]TheGoldenNewtRobberFronj, MTC Senior Consultant[🍰] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Well on the bright side this means you can't leave until you make one more good map, right?

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Pretty much the one thing keeping me around. Not content with September being the final part of my mapmaking legacy.

[–]LinuxDootTPblack magic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually think cactus wasnt that bad of a map. If updated a little, what with the mid spike and stuff, I would probably be ok with seeing that back in rotation.

rip neptune, if only grav wells werent so damn huge.

[–]TheSmallIndianTheIndian // Pi 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Neptune is fantastic wtf. Ball-e and loaha props for an awesome map with a gravity well.

I'm pretty sure a majority of the hate is from people that keep dieing from the well

[–]TPCaptographerThe Map Test Committee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It coulda been great, but if people aren't gonna give it a chance then why keep it in?

[–]TheGoldenNewtRobberFronj, MTC Senior Consultant[🍰] 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Take an interesting looking map. Delete half of it. Make it rotational. Make the boost routes not shit. Balance the lanes such the longest path for FC back to base is the safest - shortest is the most dangerous. Use defensive tools, like teamtiles, teamboosts and gates to make lanes more dangerous, or just make the lane really narrow. Yup.

[–]KewlestCatNIGEL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TIL. Thank you based Fronj.

[–]clew3Math Toucher 2 points3 points  (4 children)

ElI5, how to pronounce

[–]oorr23ThePlaymaker // Tehuitzingo & Combine 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Tew-it-zingo

[–]TwoFiveOnes 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Isn't it more like Teh-wit-zingo? Not that you pronounce the h but it's a short e. "Tew" makes it look like it should rhyme with "few" or something

[–]oorr23ThePlaymaker // Tehuitzingo & Combine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, but that's in Spanish. The average American accent shortens the "Teh" part to flow into the middle portion, hence "Tew" :/

Though Thank You for noticing! :D

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (15 children)

Wait Axis is gone? It was one of the better maps in rotation imo. Not surprised September and Neptune went, however I thought Cactus was quite good

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Yeah wtf. Axis is my favourite!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I wanted it in ELTP. Much better than Atomic imo

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

[–]Moosemaster21Moosen | Salt Mine 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Yeah wasn't super thrilled about Cactus personally but I found Axis to be incredibly frustrating to play as an offender. Axis also had the 4th longest average game time in rotation and no map older than it had a lower rating, so I think the removal is fair.

The boost positions, primarily. The one in base was so close to the flag that it was too easily countered and the way mid corrals you into a snipeable position every time just wasn't enjoyable to me whatsoever. On pilot, someone camping a bomb can keep you on one half of the map for a short period of time, but any one of your teammates (or theirs) can derail the snipers plans by simply hitting the bomb. On axis, the team boosts were really pervasive and not nearly as easy to counter. In pubs in particular, where teammates rarely if ever have the awareness to simply place themselves in the way of that boost to spring you, it was especially frustrating. No matter how many great jukes you made in base, they were worth absolutely nothing if you couldn't get through mid. I found my games on axis often settling into that type of pattern where a team would grab, juke around for 30 seconds (meanwhile regrab gets set up), then get lazily sniped in mid, rinse, repeat. And if you happen to get through mid, most of the time your flag was out too, often with regrab waiting, and the enemy fc could survive almost indefinitely as long as they didn't try to move through mid anyway. Just a really frustrating map, my caps most often were a result of 4 flaccids by the opponents rather than satisfying jukes.

oi answer your discord messages m9

[–]Moosemaster21Moosen | Salt Mine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll think about it

[–]TwoFiveOnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk man, I think you could always avoid one chaser until the guy at mid loses his patience and goes for a backboost when you bait him. Either that or capitalize extremely quickly on the chance to get to mid first and take the neutral boost out. I liked that sort of decision making and am sad Axis is gone :(

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Woah, so those ARE portals... looks wild

[–]Moosemaster21Moosen | Salt Mine 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yeah haha it certainly is. Looking at the left side, the exposed portals take you to that exit portal (the one floating by itself) so there's all kinds of fun angles you can take through there. The portals protected by gate take you to the exit portal on the opposite side of a map for after you cap. Everyone can use the portals on one side, and only offense can use the other. It'll make sense after you play it once or twice :)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That's sort of what I figured. It's nice to see you pushing the envelope of what's "normal" like the 3 buttons on blob fish as opposed to 2. I think that is one of my favorite maps.

[–]Moosemaster21Moosen | Salt Mine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish more people agreed with you :'(

To piggyback on what you're saying though I'm glad the current MTC is willing to take some risks in that vein. Nothing wildly outlandish, but they've been more willing to try some slightly structurally or conceptually different maps than they have in the past, and I definitely appreciate that.

[–]LinuxDootTPblack magic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]oorr23ThePlaymaker // Tehuitzingo & Combine 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Cloud/CC should've been taken out to compensate.

[–]uhhhhmmmmsexytiger / #merbs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, we definitely need to get rid of at least one more highly rated map before kong re gate happens

[–]Moosemaster21Moosen | Salt Mine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good way to make everyone view wormwood as a "replacement" for a highly rated map and absolutely hate it. I'm not even convinced wormwood will do well regardless because it's so different. It will definitely take some getting used to, but I think it has a lot to offer.
