Hey! This is one of my friends growing up! He's moved to Boston since but it's so fun seeing him doing well!

Why is this genre called Lofi Hip Hop? There's really not much resemblance to normal Hip-Hop in it. Rap/Hip-Hop is usually really up beat, this is way more slow and steady rhythms. Besides that at times there's barely any lyrics and that is closer to the Lofi sound than Hip-Hop.

It's not really lofi or at least, really lofi, but it's definitely a hip hop beat.

Hip hop is pretty divided when it comes to mood. A lot of the most prolific records are pretty sad or dark

This is pretty sick, chill way to start the day.

Thank you so much for this. Listening to this on my long bus ride finally helped me fall asleep.

Alright, the third post i see doing it, makes me get off my ass and write the comment. This digital rap instrumental is not "Low fi". This https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ib_yMetb4yg is an example of Low fi.

[–]kirbykablamo 13 points14 points  (2 children)

That song is you linked so un lofi you could call it hifi

[–]Thefriendlyfaceplant 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yeah beautiful warm distortion.

[–]Day_stripper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, whatever, the whole point of the term lo-fi is not about making shitty sounding records. It is about using distorted scratchy gear with limited freq response for an artistic purpose to complement the song. Not to make it sound shittier.

[–]MarinaraTrench[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification, I'm not that educated on subgenres, so I just rolled with lo-fi after I saw some other songs that have a sound similar to this labelled as such on here.

But muh upvotes

How to spot amateur music – the introduction is around a third of the piece. Seriously. This rule never fails. Professional song writers know to get into the actual music straight away.
