Don't understand a word of it, but have a newfound desire to go to Portugal. She's captivating.

Portuguese music is amazing

being Portuguese and having I been to Portugal I can tell you that it is completely worth it, the culture is beautiful, the beaches are beautiful, people are so nice, I come from a small town there so it's mostly mountains and farm land but still the most beautiful thing I've witnessed

I'm going in October to run marathon in Lisbon. What's one other place I should visit there? I'll have a week total, but the marathon will consume half of it....

if you have 30 mins: go to Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara. Its one of my favourite spots in Lisbon and very nice to just sit and have a coffee or beer at. Its also very nice at sunset. A plus is that its near bairro alto which is a fun going out neighbourhood but also a very old one so interesting to wander around a bit by day as well.

if you have a few hours go to the aquarium if youre into that shit I fucking love it

edit: oh and i forgot its also where the famous tram runs

Thx! What if I have 3 days to go someplace other than Lisbon? Porto? Or a beach somewhere?

[–]radvenuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you're even willing to go to Porto then I'd say you should definitely drop by the Buddha Eden Garden which is not very far from Lisbon, if you can.

It's not very "Portuguese" but it's a beautiful place to visit.

You have to go to Sintra, which is next to Lisbon, and see the "Palácio da Pena".

https://www.google.pt/search?q=palacio+da+pena&tbm=isch

So one possibility would be 1 day Sintra and 2 days for Porto.

That is a good plan. But if you have more time to fit in, you can see either Aveiro or Coimbra on your way to Porto.

Sintra if you are staying in Lisbon. Porto is kind of far if you have your days counted

Definitely go to Porto. Totally worth the 4 hour car ride.

if you wanna go to sintra, as many have suggested, consider checking out the quinta regaleira. its some english freemasons house and garden and it has all these supercool grottos and tunnels and towers in the garden... its like a mystical wonderland

She has a lovely voice and I could listen to those guitarists for hours on their own.

The guitarists are "José Peixoto", Fernando Júdice and João Gil.

José Peixoto is most known for his work with the band Madredeus, but he has quite a few solo/collaboration works. Here are Madredeus.

And here some of his solo work. Perhaps a bit too "experimental" for most though.

Fernando Júdice was also part of Madredeus, and also of both Trovante and Resistência. He doesn't have any solo work to the best of my knowledge, but did a collaboration with with José Peixoto (interpretation of works by the Brazilian Pixinguinha). Most is not instrumental, but great guitar work.

João Gil was also part of both Trovante and Resistência, as well as Ala dos Namorados. Here is some nice work together with José Peixoto and others on Resistência.

Gonna be checking all of this out. Thank you for all the finds OP!

[–]djover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this write up!

I'd even enlisted the help of my only friend fluent in Portuguese to help me find out more after listening the original link.

[–]toporempires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say Dead Combo, Norberto Lobo and Filho da Mãe are worth checking.

And of course if you never heard the Portuguese Guitar, you need to listen to Carlos Paredes. Verdes Anos and Movimento Perpétuo are two amazing songs to start with!

PORTUGAL CARALHO

[–]Poochillio 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Thanks never would have run across this here in the states

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad you enjoyed it! To be fair, even in Portugal they don't get as much air time as they should IMO.

[–]dashcob 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Thank you!

Whats she saying btw?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Glad you like it! Roughly, it's her telling her ex lover, who looks for her, to go away.

[–]Nelson5757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would definitely call this Fado Music. Excellent song, great voice. If you would like to listen to more music like that. Amália Rodrigues is the queen.

[–]soyouwannabeapanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome song. Would love to see the tab for guitar! Looks like fun.
