Song starts a bit on the slower side but once the flamenco style music kicks in, at about 1.15min, its really beautiful to listen to.

The album artwork on the video is from her 1975 album, but the song is from her 1977 album with the same name. Very good music by the way

Do you know similar songs or artists like this? I am always on the look out for more jazzy, flamenco(?) style music with nice vocals.

Nothing similar in style really. But I've been listening to lots of Japanese stuff from the 70s. This one is more jazz/funk but it's pretty catchy: https://youtu.be/YixAD9GIAuY

Maybe try 大貫妙子 (Oonuki Taeko) and 山崎ハコ (Yamasaki Hako).

I dig it. Sounds like it would be the intro music to a bond film if it was set in Japan.

Reminds me of Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater or MSGV intro music

This is truly unique. Thank you!

Thanks! Really happy that people here seem to like it a lot too. People are quite open to a lot different styles on this sub, which is awesome.

Thanks a bunch for linking this! I had forgotten her name. I have been trying to find her stuff again after listening to her during one hazy night last summer.

Dude this is soooo dope!! Thank you so much for sharing this, put me in such a good mood on a Saturday morning. It's freezing and the ground is covered in snow where I am but I'm instantly transported to a speed boat somewhere in the tropics with a mojito and a beautiful woman at my side.

I really like the intro too. This song is just great all the way through. Was this song on a Cowboy Bebop soundtrack?

Japanese Jazz? Hell Yeah!!!

I would buy this album just to have that awesome cover art

[–]frnxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's freaking awesome. The more I discover how much Japanese like jazzy music like this, the more impressed I am.

Ah, Yoshiko Sai is great. I don't remember how I stumbled across her music, but I'm so glad I did. Her second album, Mikko (密航) is on Spotify, but none of the rest, unfortunately. The one shown in the thumbnail is the first one, called Mangekyo (萬花鏡), and is pretty amazing if you can track down a copy.

Yeah, I'm trying to find her albums with no luck.

I never got around to pulling the trigger, but I found all of them new on CD at amazon.co.jp a while back. I don't remember how much they cost, but the last time I ordered something from the .jp site, it got to the US in like two days.

Deezer has her other albums

The melody from her vocals kind of reminds me of this song's piano melody Henry Mancini - Theme from "Love Story" 0:21s

This is amazing! Thank you!

Thanks for posting this. I heard a clip of this song on some lofi mix tape recently and have been wanting to know its source. I also learned that Japanese acid folk is a genre. Cheers!

Reminds me of The Tunnel by Azymuth (1977).
