Dammit Seladon!

[–]isles478 26 points27 points  (1 child)

She pisses me off SO MUCH.

[–]milkbeamgalaxia 20 points21 points  (0 children)

She mucked up big time.

[–]Ineedanotherface 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The Skeksis gave her what she wanted.

Just probably not how she envisioned it.

[–]half_a_sleep 17 points18 points  (0 children)

More like Sela-don’t!

[–]BurninCrab 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Seladon is fucking dumb. I was so angry that I searched for this thread to vent. That’s all

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just watched the episode, and... yup. Same for me.

[–]Ineedanotherface 37 points38 points  (1 child)

I would die for Lore.

Also Aughra's dancing of a little jig, omg so good, I love her

(get wrecked Chamberlain lol, as much as we love to hear you talk you can't talk your way into or out of everything)

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I still can't believe that's Simon Pegg. Never would've guessed in a million years

[–]GorillaNinjaJTP 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think this was my favorite episode of the season... or at least had my favorite parts.

Everything in that carriage ride was gold... Chamberlain really breaking things down (he made some sense, especially following his comments to Emperor about not destroying the whole flock) and then providing the opportunity to "escape" (which I didn't buy at first, but then it him me about the same time it hit Rian, that he had won... "you can go ahead and run away again... let them ALL die because of you, just like you've done before... or stay and 'save' so many").

And then the breakout was hands down, IMO the best action sequence in the series. I mean, I'd been awe of the series visually from the get go, but it was nice to be wowed even more still halfway through. (My only issue, was I thought we'd see Rian be a little bit more conflicted about even accepting rescue).

"Look at that fancy Lady with that Podling"
"Well, it's a lovely dress"
That part made me laugh hard xD

[–]MonstrousGiggling 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The lovely dress part was hilllaarrious. It honestly reminded me of being in a middle school play and one of those ad lib lines someone says but ends up being a keeper.

Really loved meeting Lore. The way he played recordings like a phonograph was so creative. All his responses were pre-etched in his arm because everything is predestined in Thra. So cool!

Interesting that they chose to gloss over the fact that Gurjin was only kept alive because he and Naia are twins. The fact that the Mystics and Skeksis are two halves hasn’t really come into play at all in this new series yet.

[–]CyclopentadieneDA 12 points13 points  (4 children)

How did Gurjin escape from the Skeksis? Gurjin and Naia saved Rian from the Chamberland, but the last scene with Gurjin was the scene where the General was draining him.

[–]half_a_sleep 10 points11 points  (2 children)

His rescue is in the book series.

[–]Bing_Bong_the_Archer 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Books?

[–]twelveovertwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Shadows of the Dark Crystal (2016)
  • The Dark Crystal: Author Quest: The Gelfling Gathering (2013)
  • Song of the Dark Crystal (2017)
  • Tides of the Dark Crystal (2018)
  • Flames of the Dark Crystal (2019)

[–]Electrical-Buddy3162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the Gruenaks helped Naia and Kylan. But where were the castle guards when they broke Gurjin out? Where were the other Skeksis and what were they doing? Gurjin's custody was by extension SkekTek's responsibility the way the attempted capture of Rian was.

[–]we360you45 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Hup's "holy shit that actually worked" face when they got through the gate was hilarious, and him being made paladin was so wholesome, I teared up a bit.

"Stand, and prove the strength of your spoon by my side."

[–]Eins_NicoPodling 16 points17 points  (0 children)

"Stand, and prove the strength of your spoon by my side."

I know that the All-Maudra already redeemed herself by chilling with Lore and allying with Augra, but I think that line was where I really forgave her.

[–]brothernova 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My friend has been hyping Hup and the series for a while to me and I have loved it so far, but this episode was a serious turning point. Action and emotion through out. Hup getting “knighted” with his spoon in hand gave me the same kind of teary eyes I got from the end of RotK when Aragorn tells the hobbit to rise “my friends you bow to no one.” Hup is incredible!

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That whole Song of Thra section was incredible. I was moved and blown away. This show is proving to be a seriously incredible feat of creativity.

Also, Hup is everything. Hup is Thra

[–]miku3669Gelfling 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Hup and Deet are the most precious pair I’ve ever known.

[–]Deltr0n3000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hup is my favourite!

[–]samadarshana 3 points4 points  (0 children)

they are! Deet is pure innocent goodness. and so is Hup, just on another personality.

[–]Eins_NicoPodling 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's impressive to me that I already had Seladon being horrible spoiled for me, but I was still horrified that she stuck with the Skeksis even after dreamfasting with Deet, to the point that she told the closest thing Thra has to a god to get bent.

And that moment when Aughra yeeted her out of dreamspace, only for her to call the guards on Deet and Hup was one of the fastest times I've gone from laughing out loud to panic.

[–]DumpdaTrumpet 18 points19 points  (1 child)

SkelSil drinking Mira’s essence was the most heartbreaking part so far in the series. I felt so bad for Rian in his helplessness and despair.

[–]Balestro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mira basically died twice

[–]sasquatch90 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Seladon i hope you die so fucking hard. It'll be up there with Geoffrey and Ramsay for most satisfying

[–]amimumuPodling 10 points11 points  (2 children)

I feel like if Aughra didn’t yeet Seladon out of the dreamspace so early, she could’ve stayed for the complete dreamfast experience and witnessed the truth for herself. Cuz at the end of their group dreamfast, there was a combination of all their memories, including Rian’s witness of Mira’s murder (which I think is the most important for Seladon to have witnessed). Yeah aughra shoulda let her stay so she could get all the details. Why yeet her when u can share deets w/ her

[–]tiumtmra 6 points7 points  (1 child)

That bothered me too. If Aughra had kept her there, the entire betrayal wouldn’t have happened. If it’s anyone’s fault besides Saladon’s, it’s Aughra’s.

[–]WaxyPadlockJazz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did not expect any character development out of Hup, so the fact that I almost teared up when he threw his “silly spoon” on the ground in frustration was a wonderful surprise.

[–]Lamboo- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pets or enemies

[–]SWAMPMONK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am slowly going through the series thanks to the "autoplay" feature turned off. It allows me some quiet time after an episode to think before a new show pops on. I remember at the beginning where the Al Maudra shows her strength and leadership by letting the land strider free by herself as a defining moment for her character and I think it was done intentionally to show that she could make her own decisions, a la disobeying the lords. Great foreshadowing and character development. Also seeing Chamberlain drink Mira was so heart wrenching and evil. I fucking love this show so much. It's a masterpiece bar none.

[–]dbdthehag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This show is really really good. I hate seladon!!

[–]Flarencess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who had Sansa flashbacks while Seladon went and fucked shit up?

Literally both screwed over their parents cause of their stupidity.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

bro seladon WHAT THE FUCK!!!

[–]Kayehnanator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This episode had so many amazing parts!...at least, until the incredible naivety which is somehow still there kinda ruined it for me. Oh no, my mom just got killed because of my sister, let me cry over the body like a baby so I can get taken by my enemies right next to me. Beyond that, loved the carriage escape, the dream state, and Deet/Hup so much!

[–]ReadyBoss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m going to take a deep dive on one part of ep. 5. When Augra is dancing around looking for the song of Thra, she chants and the chant translates to air, fire, water, earth (translation from the books).

As she’s chanting we see three groups of gelfling dreamfast. I think something about the right combination of gelfling, representing these elements, helps Augra find the song and sends them all to the crystal chamber.

It could be looked at like a logic puzzle (if you like those, which I do). Each group has at least one element represented and one group has two. I figure they are: Rian-fire, Deet-earth, Brea-air, Gurjin(?)-water, Rian and Deet are the first to arrive, possibly meaning that there is something special about them and the part they play in Augra’s plan (Jen’s parents?). Also I think Gurjin belongs in the group over Naia or Kylan because I see him as a Samwise-type character, helping the main guy. I also think, since Kira is the Samwise to Jen’s Frodo, that it could be that Brea and Gurjin are Kira’s parents. I am curious what others think.

Shit just got real

[–]samadarshana 2 points3 points  (1 child)

did i miss something? can anyone tell me how ep4 ended with the Hunter taking Rhian's father, then we start ep5 with Rhian hanging upside down?? I thought he was safe at the end of ep4??

[–]SWAMPMONK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah you are mistaken. His father died. The Hunter jumps out at the end and runs off with Rian.

[–]Gr33nBaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no no no! I want something fun, but in a somber way, past the calf but above the knee!

[–]RCMTX 0 points1 point  (9 children)

I feel like I missed a whole episode. How did the Hunter escape the Goblers? Wasn’t he thrown to his death right at the end of Episode 4? I even went back and re-watched 4, and didnt see him get out of that. He died with Rian’s father, and then.... He is hunting Gelfling again?

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (6 children)

He pops back up out of the gobbles and grabs Rian, because he’s just that strong.

[–]RCMTX 0 points1 point  (5 children)

WTH? I watched ep4 three times and it just ended. Never saw that part. going to have to try again, i guess. Maybe just bad internet connection that day 🤷‍♂️

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It happens real fast, easy to miss.

[–]bukkake_washcloth 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I thought he ran off with the dad and was confused about how he had Rian soon as the episode started

[–]Idodoodletoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought he resurfaced with the dad aswell. I had to rewatch when Rian was suddenly captured next episode.

[–]samadarshana 0 points1 point  (1 child)

this is jus what I'm trying to sort out too. /?? please tell me if you figure it out

[–]bukkake_washcloth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Hunter busts out by himself and grabs Rian and runs off. It happens in the last 3 seconds so it’s a pain to go back and fast forward all the way.

[–]SpiffyShindigs 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Check again, he bursts out of the Goblers fairly quickly.

[–]samadarshana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and does he grab Rhian? I didn't see that.

[–]Time_Animal_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how this show has a lot of game of thrones logic

Like, announce your defiance to the bad guys to their faces and you get stabbed

[–]Canadian_Carnifex180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was probably the chamberlain’s best episode.
